Yes there are descendants of James Northfield . James was my Gt.Grandfather.
According to the Cambridgeshire births records James was born in 1838. I have earlier birth records of his siblings in Gt. Shelford, which is where I believe he was born.
Lucy Cornwell was not his first wife. He married Geogiana Linsdell on 24 June 1860. She died 2 July 1861(no children). James married Lucy Cornwell on the 12 April 1863. Lucy died 29 May 1888 and James married Elizabeth Teversham in 1901. This last marriage is recorded on the gravestone of James and Lucy, 'this memorial erected by his wife Elizabeth'. Two daughters of James and Lucy,Emily d. Oct.1873 and Lucy d.Dec.1871, were buried in the same plot.
The family line goes back to Harston in 1644.
Hello,

I happened to come across a message you posted on this site and thought you might be interested to hear from me.

Although I cannot confirm it, it is possible we are part of the same family tree yet very distantly related.

My Grandfather originally came from London although I believe he was from Lewisham. I am not sure. I do know that there are not many people with the surname Northfield in the UK and I have been approached a couple of times before looking for answers to old family questions.

I would be happy to hear from you if you would like any further information on the family tree from the UK side (it appears you are in America?).

FYI, My Grandfather's name was Horace Edward Northfield. My Grandmother was called Irene Northfield. Funnily enough, I too am one of six siblings!

I hope this finds you well.

Ben

NORTHFIELDS - Harston, England to Alberta, Canada

I am seeking information about two sisters, Emma and Ruth Northfield, both of Harston. They were born about 1870/71 and were probably the daughters of James Northfield. Emma came to Canada and eventually married a Joseph McKay Bannerman -- an early city councillor in Calgary, Alberta -- sometime after 1907. She was his second wife. Emma died in 1917 in Banff, Alberta. Sometime after that, Joseph married her sister Ruth (his third wife). Joseph died in 1932 in Calgary ... and Ruth (Northfield) Bannerman apparently died back in Harston, England. Would appreciate any information about these Northfield sisters, e.g., when they came to Canada and with whom, and their family background. Thx.

I am researching James Northfield whose father was Benjamin, according to James's marriage certificate. James was born around 1837-1839 and married Lucy Cornwell in 1863. I cannot find a correct birth record for him. The only Benjamin I can find is the grandson of John Northfield and Hannah Barrs so wonder if you have knowledge of any descendants.

I am related to a John Northfield (wife: Mary, but maiden name unknown), who lived in Clerkenwell and had his family in the 1750s. Not sure where John & Mary came from -- whether they were born Clerkenwell or came from elsewhere (Cambridgeshire?). Not sure what John did, but there were many ironmongers in the family in later generations. John may have had a brother named William, as he named one of his sons William. John's children's names were: Mary, John, Elizabeth, Richard, James, Thomas, Elizabeth Katherine, and William. Do you think there may be a connection?

Are you aware of any links between the Northfields of Cambridgeshire and the Northfields of Clerkenwell. I've traced my family back as far as Clerkenwell, but suspect they may have come there from Cambridgeshire. Haven't got any proof yet. Any thoughts? I believe my ggg-grandfather Charles's (born 1809, Clerkenwell) father's name may have been John.

Charles Northfield, born 1809

I am trying to establish whether there is a link between the London Northfields (my family) and the Bottisham, Cambridge Northfields. The farthest back I've gotten is Charles Northfield, born 1809 in Clerkenwell, and married Mary Ann Goulden in 1836. They had six children: Charles John Benjamin (my great-great-grandfather), Mary Ann, Henry C.J., George F.A., Fanny, and Isabel. I tried to contact one of the book's authors to inquire earlier on in my research (I know more now than I did then), but have heard nothing to date. Have you or your sister come across a Bottisham-London link anywhere? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

I have now established that Charles John Benjamin Northfield's parents were Charles Northfield, born 1809 in Clerkenwell, and Mary Ann Northfield (possibly nee Goulden). They were married 1836 in Hackney, Middlesex, and as of the 1851 census had six children: Charles John Benjamin, Mary Ann, Henry C.J., George F.A., Fanny, and Isabel. I'd be interested in any information about family connections to Charles (senior), especially who his parents might have been. Thank you.

Have you come across any connection between Northfields of Bottisham and those living in London, circa mid-1800s? My great-grandfather Charles John Benjamin Northfield (married to Mary Ann Palfrey) was born Shoreditch, Middlesex in about 1837 or 1838. Haven't been able to trace any further back, but think there may be a link to Bottisham somewhere. Any thoughts? Thanks! (Toronto, Canada)

I am trying to trace back further than my great-great-grandfather, Charles John Benjamin Northfield, born Shoreditch, Middlesex, 1837 or 1838. He married Mary Ann (nee Palfrey) sometime around 1865 and they had eight children: Charles, Mary, Herbert, Henry, William, Thomas Walter, Eunice, and John. Died prob. sometime between 1865 and 1891. Have confirmed his name via his son's birth and marriage certs., but to date can't locate record of Charles's birth, marriage, or death. He is listed variously as an ironmonger, and a shoemaker. Possible connection to Northfields of Bottisham, Cambridgeshire, but not sure. Any help much appreciated! (Toronto, Canada)
My sister in MD has a book ready for the publishers -may be there now-on the Northfield family. I am g. gr.dau. of John William, as is my sister! Her research goes back to John of Bottisham in 1770, and is very well and thoroughly researched. It will contain the will and more interestingly the record of the sale of the possessions of William Northfield, grandfather of John William; a list of the fees paid by the first John for the benefit of the poor of the parish, plus lots more.
How are you related to John William--any relation to Job
Boyer? All the Northfields in and aroung Lake City, MN?
You can reach Jean at JNORTHFLD@aol.com, in Silver Spring, MD. I would like to hear how you are related and where you live.
Thanks for your reply. Jean's book is now at the publishers!! I believe that most, if not all, the info she has on the Australian Northfields came from a descendant of Samuel in NSW. Samuel and John were brothers and so close that they had 2 of their children baptized at the same time-they share a box in the record book: Harriet, dau. of Samuel; and Charles, son of John were bap. Christmas day 1818. Jean's records go back to John, buried l770, age 32.You should read the papers telling how William, their father's, property was sold at auction at the Bell Public House in Bottisham! You'll find her book very interesting--but I wish I knew how much it was going to cost, as I want a copy for each of my children. You have Jean's address? JNORTHFLD@aol.com. She's making out a list of people to notify when the book comes off the press.
Do you know anyone else she should add to her list?
Esther Ducklow

Dear Esther,

Greetings from Australia ! I am one of many Australian descendents of the Northfield family. I am delighted though that I may have the opportunity to fill in the missing USA pieces, that I don't have !!!

I have your John William Northfield being baptised 2 May 1815 at Stow-cum-Quy, married 10 Feb 1835 at Stow to Susan Littlechild, and parents as John Northfield and Mary Pammenter. Then I have "migrated to America", and that's where the line ends....I would love to know the rest !!!

My connection comes from Samuel Northfield, who is the brother of your John Northfield (parents - John Northfield, Jane Heffer). Samuel's son William, is my 3rd great grandfather.

I live in Sydney NSW Australia with my husband and baby son. I am 28 years old, and I teach emotionally disturbed children at a local public school. I have been researching my family trees for the past 2 years.....and love it.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Dear Esther,

I am assuming the information on Oz Northfields came from John Kelly, Castle Hill, NSW Australia.....that's where most of mine is from !!! He published the book, The Brothers Northfield. I have his latest "working copy" as his book sold out VERY quickly. I will contact your sister, and let her know that I'm very interested in purchasing a copy of her book.

As for anyone else, I can only assume that through John, others who are interested will find out ??? In my initial search for Northfields, I only came across him and a Gail Bottomley in Victoria, Aust. who is a descendent of John Northfield (William's brother), who settled in the Geelong area.

I appreciate your assistance with my search greatly. I can't wait to put the US pieces in the tree.
Thankyou.
Michelle.

It is thoroughly researched and documented. This book will include the Australian descendants who went to Australia about the same time my John William brought his family to the US.
If interested, contact JNORTHFLD@aol.com I live in River Falls, Wi.
