David NORTON in Michigan

I am working on my grandmother's paternal lineage which goes back to David F. b. 1910 in New York. He had a son, John Philander Hale Norton b.1849 in Michigan. John's son William Chester, b. 1879, is my gr-grandfather. All of these families lived primarily in southern Michigan, such as Lansing and Washtenaw County.
If this lineage sounds familiar to anyone, please reply!
Thanks in advance.
Shawna
Grand Rapids, MI

I am trying to figure out either a Daniel, George and or Ebenezer who has a son Eliakim. I have found that some Nortons came and split up one staying in NY or one going south. One in north was Eleazer Norton. Anyone know anything about him? A book by Col. Norton tells something of his background and I think he said his father was Daniel. Then I think in Elgin county Ontario there is a Daniel Norton with a will with Daniel and Ebenezer in it.
Any help you have will be helpful.
Thanks Gen

He died
19 Oct 1917. He is buried in Diamond Grove Cemetery, Jacksonville, Illinois, Morgan County, Section A-2, Row 9, Lot 194. Long story on why they are not buried together.

Does anyone out there know more about my Grandmother
than I do?

Donald Eugene Kliros
5022 Kirkey Court
St. Louis, Missouri 63128-2725
donaldekliros@msn.com
I have an original carte de visite photograph from about 1870 of “Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Ramsdell – Sterling, Ill. (Louise Norton)”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. She looks about age 18 and he is about early 20s.

I found the family of Daniel Ramsdell, age 23 in the 1870 Sterling (Whiteside Co.) census, showing his wife Louise. They were living with her parents, Calvin Norton, age 52, and Matilda Norton, age 58, both born NY. 1900 census shows her date of birth to be Jul 1853 and his DOB Jan 1848.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Daniel or Louise (Norton) Ramsdell of Whiteside Co., IL.
In looking at the abstract for our property, it looks as though Adam Norton filed for this land 12-13-1883. I am hoping to find out information on some history of this family, especially children born to him on this land. Thanks so much in advance.

Marriage Record: Mary Norton & Benjamin Keenan, Lancaster, PA

I found a marriage record for Mary Norton & Benjamin Keenan, who are ancestors of mine. They married on 15 Dec 1831 in Lancaster, PA at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. I had posted before not knowing her last name, but I know it for sure now. Being that they were living in East Earl in 1838, I'm convinced that's where Mary's parents were living, as there were Nortons in that area since the late 1700's. I believe her father was David (1777-1849), buried at Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, East Earl. He's the only one I could find living in or near the area. Has anyone done research on this line before? Does anyone have info on David's family/line? I sure would appreciate any information anyone could give me. I need his parents' names as well as his siblings.

Joseph NORTON family (of PA?)

A friend and I went to an antiques show in York PA recently, where she bought an early hand drawn family register for the family of Joseph NORTON. I am trying to help her find some additional information about this family and am hoping the readers of this NORTON board can help. Please note that neither she nor I are related to the NORTON family.
We were told that a picker found this item in PA, but, of course, we have no way of confirming that that means this Norton family was from PA. The information on the document is as follows:

Joseph NORTON born 12/24/1788
Barbaz HOCKMAN born 1/18/1793

married July 28, 1811

Susannah M. NORTON 9/28/1814
William NORTON 7/14/1816
Isaac NORTON 3/3/1819
Thomas S. NORTON 8/12/1821
Henry B. NORTON 3/18/1822
James NORTON 4/10/1825
Samuel C. NORTON 10/15/1827
Cintha C. NORTON 3/3/1829
Sarah B. NORTON 7/17/1832
George W.S. NORTON 8/15/1834

Can anyone provide any information about this Norton line?
Thanks!
Lynne

William Powhatan Norton & his wives

I am not a researcher of the NORTON surname, however I am interested in the family of William Powhatan NORTON.

"Will" was born abt. 1875 in Texas. He first married Martha WALLACE (b. Georgia abt. 1875) ca. 1895, possibly in Burnet Co., TX. They had the following children:

1. Wallace, b. May 1898 in Texas (poss. Burnet Co.)
2. Neville, b. 07 April 1900 in Texas (prob. Burnet Co.) and died Sept. 1968 in Alice, Jim Wells Co., TX. (according to S.S. Index)
3. Gladys May, b. 1901, d. 10 Feb. 1902 in Burnet Co., TX.
4. Mary A., b. abt. 1903 in Oklahoma.

The family is found within the 1900 Burnet Co., TX census. Shortly after baby Gladys' death in 1902, the family moved to Oklahoma where Mary was born abt. 1903. Her mother Martha probably died shortly after her birth.

William married a second time to Mary Eliza PERRY, who was sister to my gr-grandfather, Edgar Orlando PERRY. She was born and raised in Williamson Co., TX. (Mary Eliza was married prior to marrying William, but I have no info. at all on that marriage). The family is then found within the 1910 Lincoln Co., OK census.

Sometime after 1910, the family took a very long journey and moved to far south Texas where they are found within the 1920 Duval County census records. Mary Eliza PERRY-NORTON, William's second wife, died sometime between 1920-1930 as William is shown to be a widower within the 1930 Jim Wells County, Texas census. (Jim Wells County neighbors Duval County.)

After the 1930 census, William NORTON married for a 3rd time to another relative of mine, the widowed Susan Genette BALL-WILLIAMS of Coleman County, TX. "Nettie" was sister to my gr-grandmother Nancy E. BALL-PERRY, (Edgar Orlando PERRY's wife).

I would like to find out when/where William's first wife Martha WALLACE-NORTON died and where she is buried.
I am also wanting to find out when/where his second wife died and where she is buried. (Mary Eliza-PERRY-NORTON)

His third wife, "Nettie" BALL-WILLIAMS-NORTON died in 1956 and is buried next to her first husband, Lee WILLIAMS in Coleman, TX. I "think" she might have died in either Jim Wells County or Duval County and was perhaps returned to Coleman to be buried next to Lee, but that is speculation.

And finally, I would like to find out when/where William P. NORTON died and where he is buried.

Whew!

I would love to correspond with anyone researching this family! Thanks.

Lisa
Montgomery County, Texas

The couple was listed in the NYC Social Register for that year.

Virginia and Chester may have divorced. A letter on file at Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, from Virginia, inquiring about the Rees lot is signed Virginia Scully.
Nortons of Lancaster County, PA

I'm looking for info on the Nortons of Lancaster County, PA. Especially those who lived in the northeastern quarter. I have an ancestor Mary, who I suspect was a Norton. She married a Benjamin Keenan. Named a son, David N. Te death certificate of their son/my gg-grandfather, Benjamin F., says his mother's name was Horton, although that could be Norton. I'm hoping to find more info so I can confirm or invalidate my suspicion. Does anyone have info on the David Norton who lived in that area of the county around 1810? It's been believed that Mary grew up in the Earl Twp area, and some Nortons lived there as well, also in or near the Ephrata area. Mary was born about 1804 in the area, I'm guessing.

His recent genealogy is a bit skethcy but this is his line:
Barna Norton
Herman Norton
Ferdiand Norton
Jeremiah Beal Norton Jr. 4-4-1828 to 8-20-04
Jeremiah Beal Norton 10-22-1788 to 6-26-1859
Elihu Norton 10-31-1760 tp 6-1883
Seth Norton 1-16-1735 to April 1803
Phineas Norton 1689-1751
Benjamin Norton 1659-1733
Nicholas Norton 1610-1690
Nicholas Norton 1562 to 1616
William Norton 1535

Also:
Barna Norton
Herman Norton
Ferdiand Norton
Jeremiah Beal Norton Jr. 4-4-1828 to 8-20-04
Jeremiah Beal Norton 10-22-1788 to 6-26-1859
Elihu Norton 10-31-1760 tp 6-1883
Seth Norton 1-16-1735 to April 1803 (wife Amy 1736-1760, who is daughter of)
Enoch Norton 1700-1725
Joseph Norton 1676-1734
Joseph Norton 1651-1741
Nicholas Norton 1610-1690
Nicholas Norton 1562 to 1616
William Norton 1535

Also:
Barna Norton
Herman Norton
Ferdiand Norton
Jeremiah Beal Norton Jr. 4-4-1828 to 8-20-04
Jeremiah Beal Norton 10-22-1788 to 6-26-1859
Elihuy Norton 10-31-1760 tp 6-1883
Seth Norton 1-16-1735 to April 1803 (mother Patience Cleveland 1713-1805 who is the daughter of)
Ebenezer Cleveland b. 1681
Ruth Norton 1667-1717
Nicholas Norton 1610-1690
Nicholas Norton 1562 to 1616
William Norton 1535

I met Barna several times and there is a web site about tours of an island to watch the Pippin birds, run by his son, Captain John E. Norton. My mother grew up with him and knew him well. The Norton "sage" I guess you would have to call him, Lawrence, well known in the area of Jonesport, was his uncle, brother to his father Herman (Ted) Norton. Lawrence knew everything about the Nortons, but unfortunately has since died.

Jeannie
John D Norton of Paulding County, Ga

I am researching the family of John D Norton, born abt. 1816 in NC and Leuicy ? Seals born abt. 1817 in SC who appear on the 1870 and 1860 census records for Paulding Co. Old letters indicate that three brothers William Seals/Seal (b. 1836, SC, James, b. 1838, SC and Robert, b. 1858 SC) were traveling to the home of John and Leuicy Norton who was their Aunt and Uncle. One brother, Robert was imprisoned in Paulding County and later released. This would have been in the year 1871-1872.
Any information would be of assistance, especially if James is listed as dying in Paulding Co before 1880.
Anyone who could research old newspapers or county records for me would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Connie Seals Ballek
kizydanzer@aol.com
Georgia Rosetta "Pearl" Norton married a Farmer...

My great-grandfather's sister, Georgia Rosetta "Pearl" Norton is said in the family to have married a FARMER. However, the only Georgia Farmer I have been able to find in the Banks or Habersham censuses is 10 years too young, married William J. Farmer and had a daughter named Bertha. I recently found out that this Georgia Farmer was Georgia Savage before her marriage. So where did MY Georgia Rosetta "Pearl" Norton go? Who was the man surnamed Farmer that she married? My Georgia Norton was the daughter of Parthenia "Thene" Norton and an unknown Cherokee Indian man; she was born about 1867 in Habersham County. Her brother was Jerry Harrison "Pete" Norton, my great-grandfather. Her grandfather was Nehemiah Norton who was married to Anna Ward. Any information would be appreciated.
OLD NORTON CABINET CARD PHOTO FOUND IN TEXAS

I have purchased/rescued an old cabinet card photo of a young man named Eugene Norton. The photo was taken by Kamrath Photographers of Owatonna, MN. I believe this photo was probably taken between 1890-1900, but that is just a guess. It is in excellent condition. Eugene Norton is wearing a dark jacket, with vest and has on a white shirt with a dark tie. I try to save any old identified photo which I find and find their family or a safe haven. So, if Eugene Norton is yours, or you have an interest in this photo, please contact me at: jmje36@aol.com I am not on the mail lists which pertain to this photo. Thank you, Judy in TX
MISSING Norton Otis IL WI TX MO CA

I'm searching for any info regarding my GGGrandmother especially her burial place. Eunice Norton was born around 1865 in WI.IL area. She was married to Eli Cobb in 1881 in Wilmot WI & had Alma Cobb in 1883 (my G-Grandmother). She then divorces Eli in 1889 in Waukegan, Lake Co IL. Then she has a male child with Ebenezer Widger OTIS 5/11/1892 in Kenosha Co WI. Ebenezer is the son of Octavia Alvira & Ebenezer Hayden Otis. I have info on his family all from McHenry Co, IL. Ebenezer marries a Catherine Kneaves in Kansas City Mo (where his mother Octavia lives) in Jun 1896 and moves to CA.

What I'm looking for:
1. Can anyone help me find who this unnamed Otis boy is? My great grandmother said right before she died that a man came to see her claiming to be her half brother so we think he may have family - but couldn't remember anything else.
2. What happened to Eunice between 1892 & 1896? This is the last we see of her, family rumor had it that she dies of TB during this time but I can't find a death record of her in WI or IL. We now think she may have gone to Kansas City Mo with Ebenezer, being a railroad man and his mother living there. Where would I find death records there? or cemetery records? Listing of OldTB center's there?

PLEASE ANY HELP or suggestions welcome!

Jacob Norton and Barbara Misner (Mizner)

I have traced my line to Jacob Norton and Barbara Mizner and have hit a wall. I have a biographical sketch from 1913 Ephraim B Norton when he was 93 that talks about his Grandfather Jacob Norton fighting in the Revolutionary war and being married to Barbara Misner. The sketch talks about Jacob being from Alsace, France but other sources say his mother was 100% German. The Alsace area is exactly on the German Border and may explain why he was rumored to have an English Father, German speaking mother, and lived in France before coming the the New World to fight in the American Revolution. Jacob and Barbara had several children in Zachariah, George, Michael, and David. The moved from Shenandoah Co. VA to Trumbull Co. OH to Batholomew Co. IN to Dodge County WI.

I am looking for any information about Paulina Norton who married Briggs William Hill of New York. They moved to Canada briefly and then settled in Kalamazoo, MI. Their daughter, Mercy Arline Hill, was my great-great-grandmother. The family bible says that Paulina Norton was the daughter of Freeman Beetle Norton and Nancy Jemmerson, but this information is questionable at best. Does anyone know of the Hill - Norton family?
