I would like to connect with any descendants of, or researchers with any info re: Benjamin MONTGOMERY b abt 1766, who married Nancy/Ann NOTTINGHAM in Frederick Co Virginia 1789.I have found info on 5 male and 4 female children from this marriage.My direct line comes through their son Jacob MONTGOMERY b abt 1793, probably in Virginia, m.1813 to Grace FERRELL.The family would migrate to Jefferson Co. Ohio by 1800, then Richland Co. Ohio by 1815, where Benjamin and Nancy would live out their lives. .."In the transported convict records a James Nottingham from Buckinghamshire was transported to Maryland from London in 1755 on the ship Tryal. In 1758 he was reported to be a farrier and a runaway. Interestingly my James Nottingham was also believed to be a blacksmith. A female convict on this ship was Susanna Bird.

It is titled "Some of the ancestry of the Rev. Luther Nottingham (1817-1867) of Northampton County, Virginia" and was published in 1980. It contains information about the following surnames in addition to Nottingham:
Coggeshall
Dudley
Easton
Gardiner
Wanton
Winthrop

We would really like to own a copy, because we are too far away from SLC and Virginia to check their libraries :)

The Library of Congress number is: CS71.N925 1980 and the ASIN is: B0006E26DY.

We can't find any for sale in the usual places (rare book searches, Amazon.com etc).

John Nottingham and Daughter Eleanor Nottingham

My apologies in advance if this is not the corect board to post this to.

Eleanor Nottingham (b.1394) married to Simon Cheney (b.1392)is supposed to be the daughter of John Nottingham (AKA John Mowbray, 1st Earl of Nottingham)who was the eldest son of John De Mowbray and Elizabeth Segrave.

I can not find any support for this fact. According to Wikipedia: John Mowbray was created Earl of Nottingham by Richard II. The earl died unmarried, his earldom dying with him.

Everyone that has this link in their tree seems to ignor this fact in order to tie them selves directly to Edward I of England. Which by the way I would like to do! But no - I had to go checking on the validity of my blood line!

Has anybody else stumbled onto this or is it just me? Any help will be helpful!

I have a copy of the original transfer from "jail to Ship"documentation for James NOTTINGHAM in 1752.

He was deported to the "Colonies" on the Ship Tryal which set sail for Maryland.

Looking for information on a William Floy Nottingham who was 19 years old in the 1880 Braxton County, WV, census; in household of A.J. Nottingham, listed as a son. Who did William Floy marry? Did they have a daughter named Laura?

I have a death certificate for a Laura Meadows, Summers County, WV,1937; her father is listed as Floyd Nottingham born in Braxton County, WV, but I have been unable to locate any Floyd Nottingham. Her date of birth is suspect (listed as 29 in 1900 census, 39 in 1920, 43 in 1930, and age at 78 when she died in 1937).

I have found an unusual portrait card picture of a George Nottingham, made by Latourrette and Vandergrift Photographers, in Marion, Indiana. It is a picture of a young man who appears to be about 17 - 20 in a scallop shell motif. I've never seen a photo like this one! Could be between the years from 1880 - 1910. I found this in an antique shop in Tallahassee, Florida, where I live. It was with some other family photos bearing the name of Wimpy, Wood and Cunningham. Nottingham or Knottingham?

I'm trying to trace my Knottingham family, and I'm just a beginer. I can never get farther than a few generations. Then I got a letter from my grandpa saying that he was told as a child was that the family name wasn't supposed to have a K. He was told that his grandfather ended up with it added by the mistake of a clerk doing paperwork. I have also been told that one of grandpas brothers has since dropped the K. So I'm lost, and am not sure where to turn next. The furthest I have been able to find is

The story as told by my aunt Margaret Sterling Odell was that Jacob and Mary Ann escaped from England where she was a maid-in-waiting to the Queen. There had been some sort of argument in which Jacob killed a man and they had to flee. Margaret thought they had changed their names to better hide in America. Jacob was a Union soldier during the Civil War. Children= 1. Samuel F. 1-8-1858 married Emma Jane Burrell 2. Charles Manley 11-2-1859 3. William Hamilton 9-22-1861 4. James Monroe 6-11-1866 5. My grandfather was Will Nottingham of Nottingham, Virginia. My grandmother, Lucille Westfall and Will Nottingham divorced when my Mother Sylvia Westfall Nottingham was 9 months old. Will Nottingham sued for custody of my mother and lost. There was never any contact between my mother and her father, Will Nottingham after the resolution of the custody battle that I know of. I would like any information available on the Nottingham's of Virginia. I'm not sure what "Will's" name was, William I would assume.

Some of you may know me and some of you may not. I am Elizabeth Nottingham, Granddaughter of James Charles (Bunker) Nottingham from Clay County, West Virginia. I am searching for any and all information on my Grandfathers parents and step father. His fathers name was Wesley Nottingham and was killed when my Granddad was 6yrs. old. My Greatgrandmother then married another Nottingham by the name of Jasper. Jasper had been previously married before he met Oma (My Great Grandmother). My grandfather had a brother by the name of Lee Nottingham that died very young and then many sisters. I cannot remember all of their names but a few were Martha and Osie. As far as I know they were raised either around the Clay County parts or the Kanawha County parts because my father was born in Blue Creek, WV. My dads name is Rev. Melvin (Bucky) Nottingham. Looking for any info on Moses Nottingham, who was born in Dec. 1841 in Canada. He came to the US in 1866, and worked in a panning mill. He married Iola (last name unknown) who was born in March 1858 in Ohio. They married in 1875, and had a daughter named Esther Pearl in 1888, born in Michigan. Esther Pearl married George H. Stumpf between 1908 and 1911 and had seven children, all born in Michigan. Children were Irene - 1911, Leo - 1912, Richard - 4/26/16, Dora Isabelle 8/11/19, John Robert 2/2/22, Marjorie 9/17/23, and Louis Joe 2/18/25. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for information on my great (x6) grandmother Anne Lodge nee Nottingham.She was the daughter of Richard Nottingham of Briggate, Leeds; a Merchant of Leeds and he died 31st Jan 1711.
Anne was born at home 7th May 1695.Baptised at home 30th May 1695.Married 11th Oct 1716 at Beeston, to a Mr Joseph Lodge. They had 3 children: Mary (b.1717), *Richard (b.1719)and Joseph (b.1721). We believe Anne died 31st May 1721.

He died when my father (James Palmer N) was around 5 so there is little information there except for my fathers SSA-5. Apparently, there was dissention in the family as my grandfather refused to speak of his family to my grandmother.
