First off, I'm not Gary Toporke, but his son-in-law. Second, I realize this post is nine years old, but I'll respond in any case. My grandmother was also Camilla Thomasson (b. 28 Mar 1924, d. 9 May 1998), née Novaček. I don't know if this website is still capable of sending you a heads-up, but if you still have questions and you get this message, let me know.

If anyone has any information- especially a Novacek Nostalgia book from the reunion so many years ago- I would very much appreciate it. Email me at lauranova@gmail.com.

I know very little about my family history, only recently I ran into a cousin I've never met by accident who informed me that her parents live on 'the old property.' My father is George Novacek.

Thanks.

Dorothy

Not related.
Up to 1918 the records would say Bohemia, Austria.
http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/austhung.htm
A map of Bohemia:
http://feefhs.org/maps/AH/ah-bohem.html
After the fall of A-H empire, several new countries were formed and one was Czechoslovakia www.cgsi.org After WWll Ruthenia ended up in Soviet Union and now Ukraine. In 1993 Czechoslovakia separated into Czech Republic and Slovak Republic. You need to locate a precise place of birth among the US documents to proceed with the research. The surname NOVAC^EK is a bit common. No W in Czech alphabet but it does make the V sound so W was used in US instead of V.
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~elainetmaddox/index...
www.iarelative.com
www.genea.cz
www.surnamenavigator.org
http://genforum.com

My great-grandfather, Thomas Novachek (born 28 Feb 1858 in Trebon, Bohemia) and great-grandmother, Mary Rynes (born 15 Aug 1866 also in Trebon, Bohemia) were married in 1886 while still in Trebon. They immigrated to this country in 1888 or 1889. During immigration to the U.S. I believe the surname was changed from Novacek to Novachek. An error was made on my father's birth certificate resulting in the current spelling, Novacheck, in my branch of the family tree.

They settled & farmed in Forest Township, Vernon County, Wisconsin near Hillsboro, Wisconsin.

I am looking for information or family connections with regard to my great-grandfather: Thomas Novachek, Born 28 Feb 1858, in Trebon, Bohemia, Austria (Czech Republic now), Died 02 Jan 1923, in Hillsboro Township, Vernon County, Wisconsin. Not sure if surname in Bohemia was Novachek or Novacek. So far Novacek seems more likely. He came to Wisconsin with his wife, Mary Rynes Novachek, abt 1889. I do not know if any other relatives from Bohemia came with them at the time, before or after.

His children were Thomas Novachek, Jr., Mary Novachek-Hesik, Rose Clara Novachek (Onsager), Helen Ann Novachek (Carroll), Joseph James Novachek (my Grandfather), Edward Novachek, Alfred J. Novachek, and Albert James Novachek.

In addition to contact information, I am particularly interested in finding out if anyone has information about his parents or siblings in Bohemia.

My family has no idea what the correct way to spell our last name is. My fathers great great grandparents were Anton Novshek born 1847 possibly in Austria, Bosnia, Slovakia? He married Maria Gluck born 1871 possibly born in Bosnia? We only know of one kid that they had, Anton Novshek Jr. born 1894 lived possibly in Bosnia from an area called Sv Franciska? He married Catherine Golob born 1891 she came to USA from Austria around 1909. (Her parents are Jonas Golob & Maria Lamprechnik) Anton (1847) had siblings or cousins that lived in Pennsylavania. So possibly they spelled it differently when they arrived. They had an accent & we don't know how they spelled their name way back then, but we spell it Novshek now. I might be related to people who have a similar sounding name. Don't know. If anyone thinks that this might be familiar, please e-mail me.

I'm emailing because i stumbled across the ancestry web site and just for fun, I put my last name in, and i was shocked of the messages left from people with same backround or places of origin. My father Oldrich Novacek came to america in the early 60's to New York, He was approx. 25 yrs. old. He spoke of having distant relatives and cousins in the states in the mid west and on the west coast(calif) where we moved to in the early 80's. My father had children form a previous marriage when he was 18, He had two kids named Jiri and Renata who are in there late 30's, and me and my brother here in the states (22,28)Jiri and Renata still reside in czechoslovakia and one germany. I've had spratic contact over my childhood. My father was born and raised in Prague. He spoke of coming from a long family history. My grandmother which we referred to as Babicka came to visit us in the early 90's, still resides in prague.
I writing because my father passed away in 1984 at very young age. I know somethings about my fathers family history but it seems more of a puzzle than a story.
Hope to hear from you.
Christian

Can anyone help?
We are just starting to research this line.

Novacek

My grandfather emigrated to North Dakota and then moved to Opheim, Montana. My mother Anna was born in 1918 and her sisters were born in either in the old country or in Vienna Austria where my grandparents have moved to find work. He was a blacksmith. Family history has the family landed gentry until a peasant uprising led to one of the ancestors giving the land "temporarily" to the brother, a priest in the Catholic church. The church, of course still has the land. Does this sound familiar. Bfossum@aol.com.
