Thanks Rachael! I was missing the generation between Max/Maggie (1840's)and George/Nellie (1890's). Joseph and Mary fill that gap.

The 1920 census shows the following children for George and Nellie Novak in Stuyvesant Falls: Barney (age 5), Mary (4 4/12), Joseph (2 11/12) and Stanley (7/12). Was Barney's real name George? Perhaps George Bernard Novak? The Bernard Novak you mention is buried right next to
Joseph Novak in the Hudson cemetery. Both were World War II veterans. By the way, I saw your grandfather Stanley's story and photo in the book "Battle of the Bulge".

The only Bernard NOVAK that I have is the son of Victor NOVAK and Evangeline OLDRICH. This Bernard was born 1914 and died 1971. Victor was the brother of a George NOVAK. This is the George with the children May, Joseph, George jr. and Stanley. Victor and George's parents were Joseph NOVAK and Mary DRAVENSIEK. Joseph's parents were Max NOVAK (c. 1842 or 1837 - c. 1921) and Maggie (born c.1843.) There are so many Novak's in Stuyvesant it's hard to keep track of them all. Most seem to be buried in the St.Mary's Cemetary (Stuyvesant Falls) and St.John the Baptist (Valatie.) I'm slowly working on inputting the info into my tree here on ancestry but I have over 600 names in the tree so it's slow going. It is far from complete and I don't know if this will work but here is a link:
http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/pedigree.aspx?tid=10848288&...

NOVAK Family

I have been looking through some of my grandfather's family tree collections (it's a bit of a mess) but I have a wedding thank-you card from a Mrs. James Kozel. I also have a wedding invitation from a Ann Virginia Kozel who was marrying a William James Klecka. Also on my father's aunt's obituary (Anna Divis) (in Bohemian) a Anne Kozel and a Joan Kozel are listed in the "survived by". My father tells me the Kozels were somehow related to his grandmother's family, the Novaks: Mary (Novak) Toberman (1888), Antoinette (Novak) Vavruska (1881) (changed to Vernald between 1908-1914) and Anna (Novak) Divis and possibly more Novak siblings.

I am looking for information on the Novak family (parents names, other siblings) and how the Kozels tie into the Novak family. Can you help? Novaks mentioned lived in Chicago.

Have you found his Naturlation and or Citizenship papers? If not, find him in the census, and take a good look at all of the columns. Getting these papers are full with a lot of wonderful information that lead you to the clues that you will want to know. These papers will not only tell you often times the ship, origin, country and village. Make a trip to the court house where grandma and grandpap lived, and look up records.

Haven't been back since posting this original message. My sister and I did find our father in Alabama in 2004 on Valentine's Day. It was wonderful - like no time had passed. He recently passed away in June of 2008. Now we are searching for remaining family members on his maternal side of the family. Contact has been made to us from his half brother Thomas John Novak [born 1951]. His mother Margaret Ann Fenandino married Thomas Novak in 1949 who adopted Ralph [age 8 or 9]. A half sister was born in 1949 [Margaret Ann]. Looking for previous marriage for Mother, maiden name and paternal father prior to adoption. An help is greatly appreciated.

It is very possible your bernerd is actually a george jr.....sometimes it is easier to go by a middle name when there is more than one in a household. Sometimes children were also called by their baptismal names as well. One census is not enough evidence to judge I had 5 where one child was called lottie and only one where she was listed as Elizabeth. Elizabeth turned out to be her first name and charlotte her middle.

Jane F. Franklin married to Novak

I am looking for information about Jane F. Franklin who married a Novak. Jane's parents were Marcus R. Franklin and Stella Manning. I think Jane would have been born around 1918 or 1919 in Allegheny Co., PA, quite possibly in the Pittsburg area, where her parents lived later on. Jane Novak is mention as surviving her father in his 1978 obituary (he died 2/28/1978).

Re: Clara V. Novak of Minnesota

Do you know Clara's parents names? I am a descendant of Valentine and Catherine Novak of Willow River, MN. They had a son, John, who married Katherine Waletzski. Their fourth child was Clara Novak. Using the census dates, it looks like she was born around 1902. I'm no sure where. Do you think we are talking about the same Clara Novak?

Not too sure where my great grandfather was born. I know that I have an uncle named Raymond who is still alive.\

My father's father was Frank Jr so perhaps we may be related to the same family.

Perhaps you can email me at snovak64@gmail.com and we can try to compare more notes.

I too know very little about my relatives other then my grandfather met my grandmother Martha Schweer (born in Minnisota and went by horse and buggy to Alberta Canada. Martha was sent to the states and there she met my grandfather Frank Jr. Frank Jr lived in Los Angeles, CA.

Hi Jan:

Not too sure when, I have very little information on my father's side of the family. All I know is that my grandfather on my father's side had family in the Czech Republic. Stepanka Novakova was one of the family members from there. Other than that, I am not too sure where to even find any of my possible relatives and don't have any idea when they came over.
