My grandfather, Frank D. Novak, was born in Russia or Poland. He lived in Chicago and passed away in about 1972 or so. He was married to Victoria. They had 3 boys named Raymond, Frank Jr., and Eugene. I am the oldest of Raymond's children. I have been unable to trace past this point.I know my grandfather worked for General Motors and retired from there. He and my Grandmother lived on Green St. in Chicago for 30 years or so. Any information anyone could provide about where my grandfather and/or grandmother came from would be appreciated.

My GG Grandparents were Michael & Ann Novak (no idea of her maiden name.) They had 5 children: Martin, Ann, Michael, Jacob & Frank. Frank is my G Grandfather. He married Sara Nawrocky who was born in 1892 in Stuyvesant Falls NY. Their children were Martin, Katherine, Marion, Edward & Stanley (my grandfather.) Stanley married Evelyn Oldrich. All of these children are deceased (as far as I know) except for Marrtin. Sara had anothor son, Lewis who's father & family, we know nothing about. Lewis' nickname was "Chick." I met him once, but as far as I know very few people in my family ever met him, he died in the late 90's. If any you know anything about any of these people, please let me know.

I am looking for relatives or should I say missing relatives. My grandfather born Leonard John Metro June 24, 1899, somewhere near the Carpathian Mts (Poland or so he said) My grandmother was Polish and when they argued, she would always tell him he didn't speak good Polish! Grandma said that he had changed his name, didn't know from what. The only things that he would tell us, was that he came to the US in the early 1900's ( 1906/1907)alone, his parents were already here, he came in with a girl named Synoweic. While here his parents had another child named Hazel, their names were Joseph and Olga. He spoke of an uncle Novak, used to tease that he was related to Kim Novak (just a joke I'm sure)
Anyway he left home when he was 16 and never went back, and never told us anymore about his family. He married my grandmother in 1928 Buffalo NY...So who was he before 1928?? He had a series of numbers tatooed on his left arm (no he wasn't jewish, we can place him before WWII) When asked what the numbers meant, all he would say was that it was the place where he was born. He mentioned places like Mass. Washington D.C.. Anyone who can help in anyway, I would appreciate it very much.

We're searching for a lost branch of our family tree. My great-grandfather, Frank Novak, was born in Bavaria or Czechoslovakia on 4-8-1868. His family moved to Michigan and his father (Frank Novak) died in 1871. His mother then married a man named Poetzl and Frank took her new husband's name, although he never legally adopted him. She was a member of Hartford Community Church and its Ladies Guild.

Vera enjoyed quilting and ballroom dancing.

Her husband, James Novak, whom she married July 23, 1941, passed away April 17, 1985.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, James D. Novak, Davidson, N.C.; and Ronald Novak, Burghill; a brother, Bill Zipay, Hartford; four grandchildren, Laureen, Nicole, Brian and Dana; and four great-grandchildren.

My grandfather's name was Frank Wesley Novak. He was married to Olive and lived in Midwest City, Okla at the time of his death, which year I don't know. He was 82 when he died. He was born in Weathland, Okla, but I don't know what year.
My Grandmother Emma Jo was his first wife and my mother Josephine is his daughter. Grandma kept everything about him a secret. Mom is now having lots of medical problems and needs to find out more about her dad. She also wants to know about her family she never knew, along with most of her 8 kids.
I also know he had step children, Marvin Petty, Meta Stumper, Arabelle Crowder, Velma Beleele, Marjorie Smith, Ora Kraus and a sister Bessie Lines.

Marie Teresa married Joseph Anton Marek and had a daughter, Marie Antonette Marek on Dec. 20, 1925 in Chicago.

Lawrence Leo Novak, 86 of Montclair died November 15, 2007 at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Fontana. He was born November 19, 1920 in Benton, Iowa and has been a Montclair resident for 45 years. He was a mail carrier for the United States Post Office for 28 years, retiring in 1986. He served in the United States Coast Guard and was a WWII veteran. Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Donna Derrick; brother, Paul Novak and grandchildren, Roger Derrick, John Derrick, Kenny Derrick and Mike Novak; great-grandchildren Brittany, Stephanie, Kamryn, Gavin, Wyatt, Braeden, Casen and Kayla. This is the message I posted here 4 years ago for which I have not had any nibbles.... Here are some updates.

My grandmother was Johanna Novak Gornik, born April 25, 1882 in the village of Precnje near Novo Mesto, Rudolfwerth, Slovenia. Daughter of Martin Novak and Mary (nee ???)Brodnik Novak. Johanna came to America, to Cleveland, Ohio, allegedly through Ellis Island on October 31, 1900 aboard the SS St. Germaine. She married John Gornik at St. Vitus Church in Cleveland, Ohio on August 16, 1905. She was a member of that parish until her death on March 23,
1964.

Her siblings were:
John Brodnik (m. Mary Vidmar),
Francka Novak Kocjan,
Louis Novak,
Marija Novak Muren,
Frank Novak (never married, died in 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio)
Anton Novak (m. Mary Unknown - children: Tony m. 1. Mary K. O'Connors, m. 2. Jean Trhlen; Mary m. Frank Ziherl; Jimmy m. Kay Frawley, Ludwig m. Josephine Mlakar).

From these siblings, I am looking for relatives and descendants with surnames:
BUKOVEC, CRANE, KNAFELJ, KOCJAN, KRALL,
KULOVEC, MUREN, O'BRYAN, PARKELJ, AND PARKER.

Would also like to know if Johanna's father, Martin had siblings. All help will be appreciated.

I am looking for any information regarding my grandmother's family. Her name was Anna S. Novak(6/12/02-1/26/83). She married Francis J. Drabik and had 3 children: Francis L., and twins Leonard and Linda. Anna was born in OH and her parents were George Novak Sr. and Anna Gercak(I believe both were born in Czechoslovakia). George Novak Sr. owned a grocery store in Lorain, OH. George's father is listed as John Novak, but I have no information on George's mother or Anna Gercak Novak's mother(Anna Gercak's father was Adam Gercak) or Anna's siblings(perhaps George A. I am looking for information on:
Frank Novak b. abt 1861 Bohemia
Frances Novak b. abt 1862 Bohemia
Frank Novak b. abt 1883 Kansas

They immigrated to Kansas from Bohemia about 1881. I have found the family once in the 1885 KS Census for Fairview, Republic. I may have found the two Franks, with the elder Frank remarried(Frances deceased), in Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska.(1900, 1910, 1920, 1930 Fed Census) There are so many Frank Novaks that I simply can't be sure these are the "right" Frank Novaks.

I believe that Frances Novak may have been my great-grandfather's sister. His name was Frank Cejka or Chaka or Jaka. He immigrated to KS in 1883 and settled in Republic County.

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Pete Novak, 83, of 812 SW 5, retired city carpenter,
died Thursday at Hubbard hospital. He was hospitlaized
three weeks ago.

Born in Czechoslovakia, he immigrated to the United States
about 1890, settling in Minnesota. Novak came to
Oklahoma City in 1915.

Arrangements are being handled by Hahn-Cook funeral home.
Services will be announced later.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs Bertha Novak, of the home; two
sons, Pete Novak, 4348 NW 18, and Emil Novak, 3245 NW 2;
two daughters, Mrs C.O. Jennings, Maywood, Ill., and Mrs
Fred Dodderer, Irving, Texas, 12 grandchildren and five
great grandchildren.

Requiem mass will be at 9am Saturday in the
Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial will be
in the Mishak Cemetery south of Oklahoma City.

Novak, a farmer here since 1906, died Wednesday in
a local rest home. Born in Bruno, Czechoslovakia,
he came to the United States in 1902. He was a
member of Catholic Workman.

Surviving are the wife, Anna, Watsonville, Calif.;
a daughter, Mrs Ann Sonderegger, 3737 Trellis Dr.;
three sons, Joseph, 2900 S. Goff, Nicholas, Chicago,
and Jacob, Richmond, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs
Hedricka Lanum, and Mrs Annie Nekvapil, both of
Route 12.

I am looking for the ancestors of Leonidas Novak who was married Elizabeth born in Wales, better known as Elsie.
They lived on the island of Hvar, Croatia. He was born in Austria.
He had two brothers George and Stanilva.

His mother was call Zulajka [she had been married before in Austria and had children to her 1st marriage]
His father was also Leonidas and he was a gyneacologist on the island of Hvar.

Please help me if you can! I am new to this and would really like to find out as much as possible! My great grandfather's name was John Novak. He was born in Pilsem, Bohemia, on May 16, 1851. He was the oldest child of a large family. He had worked on the railroads in Czech. When he was 15, he came to America with his parents by steamboat, and they landed in New York. He then moved to Chicago where he worked in the coal mines. He lived there until the Chicago Fire in 1871. He moved to Braidewood, still working in coal mines. He returned to Chicago where he met Anna Krisl and later married her. She was born on May 21, 1857 in Plzen, Czech and had four brothers and one sister. She came to America in 1874 and worked at a small restaurant in Chicago. They lived in Illinois for a few years, and he worked in lumber yards.
The two of them moved to Nebraska where he bought a farm. This is where they had their children: Louis, John, Charlie and Frank. Louis was my grandfather and I believe that John or Frank was his twin. My great-grandparents lived there for about 15 years before they moved to a farm near Hazen, Arkansas. Four years after the move, one of the children died at the age of 14, my grandfather's twin. My great-grandfather died on May 31, 1924. He was 73.
My grandfather Louis was a veteran of World War I. He was over 25 when he joined. He married my grandmother, Mildred Wosoba, 2 or 3 years after his return. She was born in Hazen, AR, on April 15, 1901, and had one brother, Emil. Louis and Mildred had 7 children--Edward (Buddy) who died at about age 6, Frances, Dorothy, Ruby, Elvin, Evelyn and Carolyn Jo.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of . . . soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died in Taji, Iraq, on Aug 27, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their M2A3 Bradley Vehicle during combat operations. All soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Frank and Marie (Hatfield) Novak

I'm just starting this side for my nephew and I don't know much about his dad's family (and neither does the dad).

According to the death certificate of Norma Michalik (nee Novak) she was the daughter of Frank Novak and Marie Hatfield. She was born 12/15/1931 in Indiana (US 1930 census) and had siblings Fredrick and Betty.

Her mother was born in Indiana (census) father in Illinois and siblings in Illinois. She was buried in Oakland Memory Lane in Illinois, september 1982.

There are several Frank Novak's in the SSDI and one Marie Novak in the SSDI (Indiana) that may be the mother. However, there are several Frank's that are living in Lake County IN and all fit the approximate age.

Any information would be appreciated.

She predeceased him on Apr 18, 2005.
Paul was a US Veteran, and retired from Corning, Inc. and loved to hunt and fish. He was a former Babe Ruth Coach in Corning.

Frances's parents were Frances Savier Novak and Mary (Kosheruske)Novak. Francis and Mary emigrated to the United States finally settling in Dovre Township, Barron County, Wisconsin.

CHEBOYGAN - Bruno B. Novak, age 80 of Cheboygan passed away Monday, July 25, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born May 5, 1925 in Avella, Pa., to Victor and Emily (Jerosek) Novak. In June of 1973 in Cheboygan he married the former Patricia Tuttle, who survives.

Bruno served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a tailgunner in a B-29. He was an ironworker for Local 25 for 53 years, retiring in 1983, and was a member of the Cheboygan Street Club for 12 years.

Besides his wife, Patricia, of Cheboygan, he is survived by his sons, Vincent (Corey) Novak of Las Vegas, Nev., Bernard Novak of Omaha, Neb., Mike (Sandy) Novak, of Omaha, and Paul (Sandy) Novak of Bay City, Mich.; his daughters, Barb of Lansing and Pam of Lapeer, Mich.; stepchildren Mary (Jim) Christie of Houston, Texas, Ed (Gloria) Duffiney of Cheboygan and Kathy Durst of Lapeer; and 13 grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church with the Rev. Anthony Cureton serving as celebrant. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Hospice of the Straits. Arrangements are being handled by the Christian Funeral Home of Cheboygan.

John Novak of Elkhart County Indiana was killed May 23, 1942, while serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He is buried in the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines.

We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life and especially locate any family members still living so we can send them the free photograhs of his grave site and the beautiful memorial in the Philippines.

I am a retired Hoosier from Madison County Indiana residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. We are seeking family and military information about servicemen from your county killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. my maternal-grandmother's name was sophie novak she was born in 1901.i can recall her having many siblings;names were celcia,louis,and mary was the youngest.there were more names. in about 1926 she married john brusky and they had 2 daughters.helen and theresa.after john's death she married steven olkewicz.family was from PA.perhaps this information will help someone from the novak surname.

Looking to connect with researchers of Andrew NOVAK b.c.1878 d. unk, married on 25 Apr 1904 Mary BLAHUT or BLACHUT b.c.1878 d.unk.

The only info I have is from their marriage license. The parents of Andrew NOVAK are listed as Barto & Catherine NOVAK.

Andrew and Mary resided in Gallitzin, Cambria Co., PA. Andrew was a laborer and Mary a housekeeper.

Andrew had been married before and his former wife died on May 9. The year written is 1809 but that is not possible so I don't have the correct year.

They were married by Rev Paul Brzlski in Gallitzin, PA.

My grandparents are Bernice Draus and Antoni (Anthony) Novak from Rome/Utica/Amsterdam, NY area. They had 3 children, Clara (my mother), Stanislaus (Stanley), and Frances (Frank).
