John J. Null b. 1775 Virginia

John J. Null, who had a brother named Jacob, is my g-g-g--grandfather. My understanding is that John J. Null was born in 1775 in Virginia; lived in Knox County, Tennessee in 1794; served in the Cherokee Indian Wars; migrated to Missouri in 1809; served in the War of 1812; and died in Lincoln County, Missouri in 1860.

John was married to Nancy Bodkin of Highland County, Virginia in 1791; they had a son named William J. Null (my g-g-grandfather) born about 1803 in Kentucky and William married Phebe Turner (daughter of Winslow Turner); uncertain, but other children of John and Nancy may include John born in 1806, Alonzo in 1809, and George in 1818.

John J. Null's brother also served in the War of 1812 and information shows that a Jacob Null had been known for success in collecting honey from bees in a creek in Missouri that was later named "Null Creek".

If any of this is consistent with your research, I would greatly appreciate any information you would be willing to share. Although my research seems to be solid back to John J. Null through William J. Null, my "Null line" has much uncertainty with John's immediate family and earlier generations, although I suspect linkage back to Nicholas Null (Noll) in Virginia.

Please respond to this forum or directly to my e-mail address at: marico@worldnet.att.net.

I'm looking for information on Mary E. Null. I'm sorry I can't provide much details, I've really hit a brick wall with this one. What I know is that she married Isaac Herrington (b. 1833) and they had a daughter named Mary B. Herrington. I believe they were in Missouri, but could be wrong. Any help would be appreciated!

William Goodman Null, Louisville, Kentucky and Detroit, Michigan

Hi!

I have never met anyone with my same last name, Null, but it seems there are plenty of us out there.

My father's family was from Louisville, Ky. I am trying to trace his father, my grandfather, back as far as possible, but am stuck at his name. Seems he may be connected to a Dr. Null, founder of a medical school in Louisville, Ky. in the 1890s.

If anyone, anywhere in the country, has any info. please reply. My father told me his family orriginated in England, perhaps Southhampton, and that there is some Irish and German in the family somewhere. He always mentioned that Null is a German name. This was confirmed through telephone inquires I made some years ago locally in the Los Angeles, Calif. area where I live. But I do not know the validity of this.

Thank you to anyone who can send me any comments on the origin of this family name, and even my grandfather, William Goodman Null, of Louisville, Ky., and later Detroit, Mich.

Sincerely,

Bill Null,
Canoga Park (L.A.), Calif.

Wanted: Information about Widower Gedian Null and wife

My husband and I recently bought a house and discovered where the previous family had purchased a house and land from the the widower Gedian Null in 1944. (I'm not exactly sure of the spelling of the first name because the deed was hand written and hard to read.) The family who owned our home before us took the house that had been owned by Mr. Null and added it onto the back of the main house that had been previously purchased from the Bost family in 1934. If anyone has any information about the Null family who had lived in what is now the back half of my house please let me know. We'd like to know more about them and see pictures of the home if anyone still has them so that we can remodel that part of the house to look like what it used to.

Is anyone on this message board part of the family of Rosanna Null born about 1820 in MO who married Archibald Brooks born about 1810 in KY. Their daughter Catherine Melvina Brooks is part of my family line. The primary area of interest is Jefferson Co., MO. Other children per census records are Sarah E., Margaret P., John W., William D., James F. and Charles Brooks. I believe that Rosanna died around 1860 as the two youngest children Catherine and Charles were placed with other families and Rosanna no longer shows up in census records. Archibald "Archy" lived past 1880. I would like to hear from someone with any connection to this family.

Null, Chapman, Evans

My GG grandfather Henry Foster Evans married Lavina Null. I have no parents listed for Lavina.
In the 1850 Missouri Census, 12 year old Lavina Null and siblings, 6 year old Sarah E. and 3 year old James D. were listed in the household of Brooklin Chapman of Dallas County Missouri.
Brooklin was 45, born in TN, his wife Margret, 29 was born in Missouri. There are 9 Chapman children listed, ages 3 to 17. Margret is much younger than Brooklin and there are two 3-year-old children listed. I wonder if Margret was married to a Null and had the 3 children by him. Either Null died or there was a divorce and she married Chapman, or were the Null children orphans?

Does this cross paths with anyone researching Null, Chapman, or Evans?
