DOD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Spc. Levi E. Nuncio, 24, of Harrisonburg, Va., died June 22 in Kunar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

I am looking for more information on Canuto Nuncio born Jan 1st 1875 (according to US documents) died 1963 in San Antonio and buried in Dallas. He had 3 sons Raymond, Fred and Augustin. Raymond and fred are buried with him. His mother was Juana M.

I have not done a IGI search, but I will. I just cant seem to find her at all, anywhere. I wonder if her name isnt misspelled.

Yes, Jimenez is in Coahuila. She was born Jan. 23,1877 and died Oct.16, 1949. I was told that she was a very nice caring woman. She was married at the age of 14 the first time.

Hi Im new at this but my great great grandmothers name was Emerenciana Nuncio from Jimenez, Mexico. She was married to a Jesus Constancia. Does that name ring a bell? I dont know very much about her, would like to know if anyone out there does. She is buried in Melvin, TX. Sonia

I thought it might be a rendering of the Italian name Nunzio.
There are a few nuncios in Italy as well but mostly Nunzio

It seems that the first Nuncios in Mexico appear about 1698 in the Yucatan. From there they spread to Zacatecas and Coahuila and then Nuevo Leon. My ancestors came to Saltillo about 1710. This seems to be an earlier migration to cuba then the one you spoke of in your message. Is there any hint of an earlier migration on your side of the ocean?

I have been researching for about 5 years. I have taken my Nuncios back to Juan Nuncio b. abt 1695. Juan married
Juana Sanchez Navarro about 1717. Juana was the daughter
of Marcos Sanchez Navarro and Catarina Flores. Do your
Nuncio line tie to this one? I am tryint to take the line
back further. I wa wondering if you had any success in this
matter?

Please reply to Eline Fischer who has a message on this Nuncio board dated Oct, 2001. She has been looking for family. I know she would be thrilled to her from you. She is Dolores's eldest daughter. We tracked Dolores to Arizona but I don't know how far she got with her search.

You don't state what your gggrandfather's name was or a town. Specify more information so we can help you. You can go to www.familysearch.org and do a search on the IGI databasee for Mexico and Nuevo leon and coahuila and check for him. The Nuncios of Nuevo leon came from Coahuila first.

Hello Esther, Thank you for the info on the Nuncios. To answer your question "was my father married twice" no my father was only married once at 17 years of age. When he passed away in 1981 he and my mother were married for over 50 years. My grandfather Jacob Nuncio left New Orleans and moved back to his home town of San Antonio, Tx after his wife ( my grandmother ) Rita Dastie died at a young age.my
grandfather who was still a young man at this time could have
possibly remarried and had more children. This all happend before I was born. I was later told that grandfather Nuncio lost his life while working in an aircraft factory that caught fire
or blew up in San Antonio, Tx. I was also told that most of the Nuncios in my family are in San Antonio. My father Andrew John Nuncio was born in New Orleans,La in 1912. So my grandfather must have been born around 1890. ??? I also believe that his father my greatgrandfather Nuncio lived in San Antonio. When I was a child my Nuncio relitives use to write to my father a invite he and my mother to visit them, but by that time my parents had a large family of 6 children and never made the trip. I remember my parents speaking of a Agustin Nuncio also a Jusus Hidalgo. They also spoke of a Jacob Nuncio and a Andrew Nuncio that was somehow related to our family. Oh well I guess that I will just have to take one step at a time and maybe one day I can complete my Nuncio family history. Esther, Thank you again for your help it is certainly appreciated. Estelle

Hi Tina, thanks for the info on Nuncio. I would love to get the book and info on the Schlamps as I am researching that side of the family also. I don't have much info on Grandfather Frank Henry Schlamp or grandmother at present. I did find great-grandfather Henry Schlamp Jr. listed in the 1893 New Orleans City Directory As an Upholsterer 153 Baronne St. and res. at 363 St Louis St. I would love to find out more on grandfather and grandmother as I did not know them , they died before I was born. Please let me know how I can get the Schlamp book and info. Love to all Aunt Estelle.

Hi, i'm from Spain and here the roots of surname Nuncio are Located in the region of Extremadura , concretly on the village of Alcantara and near. From this village was expanded over Spain at second middle of 20th century. and seems, talking with old family, on the 19th century from this villages was part people with this surname to Cuba.

My Great-grandmothers last name is Nuncio. And all my grandma could say was that she belived it to be of Spanish orgin or a mistranslated French name. If you have found it not to be that of Spanish maybe it may have been a misspelled-translated form of French

I am trying to research my paternal family name NUNCIO.
I've traced my family back to my g-grandfather Nuncio who was born in Nuevo Leon, Mexico 1850's. But I don't know if his family was from SPAIN, or PORTUGAL , or the Canairy Islands ??? My g-grandfather lived his life in San Antonio, Texas. Some of his family lived in Louisiana.
