If I had to guess I would say he was from Marengo Co, AL ???
2) Son Hardaway "Hardy" W. and his children used the surname spelling NUNNALLEE. He married Margaret Hammonds
and they had children Beauregard warren, Rebecca Vashti, and Hardy Horton. I cannot be positive that Hardaway's middle initial was "W" as on the 1860 census but researchers call him "Hardy H. Sr" which could be an error ebause his son was Hardy Horton and they just assumed.....
WWI draft reg 02 Jun 1917 Houston, Harris Co, Tx
"Hardy Horton Nunnallee, wm age 23 of Houston, TX + born 21 May 1897 Arcadia, MS + single + supports mother + signed Hardy Nunnallee"
1930 E.
just got home and looked up your family tree it is the same family but you have some wrong info in it. It has been 10 years since i worked on this family but i know i verified most of the info and i was working with alot of other nunleys still alive, i too start with Joseph Nunneley b 1714-1768 and go down from there. I have Coy Lee Nunley born june 1881 in Washington Co Arkansas. He married a Mae mary Lay and had 4 children Coy Lee, Carl Media, Lee W, and Maude May and then I have he married a Francis. Coy Lee died when he was 57 of cancer. He had married a Marie Bennett and had 3 children Alice Lee, Lula Mae and Annie Marie. How do you fit into the family? My grandfather was Sidney Jerry Nunley brother to Arch. Did you know that Sidney was a twin, found out in the cencus they were 1 year old and then the next cencus sister was no longer in it. I have just started working on my dads geneology and am posting it but i will try in the next few weeks to post the nunley geneology. I will let you know, if you have more questions please ask as i will be happy to help, and do let me know where you fit in

linda

Hi there,

Ok, just to clarify; it was Arch Lee Nunley that was born in 1881 in Yellville Arkansas and was married to Mary Priscilla Scott - after Arch died she married a man named Floyd H lay. Mary also went by "May" so I think that's where the name "May Mary Lay" comes from. I found this info written in my grandmother's papers. Arch and mary had 4 kids; maudie May, Carl Media, Coy Lee, and John Wesley. My Grandfather is John Wesley. He married Mary Edith Jackson and had 4 kids: Gary Dean, Marilyn Sue, Jerry Moreen, and Rebecca Ann. My mother is Jerry Moreen. I have pictures of Coy's family.

I too have a HUGE problem with "copy & pasters" who pass on UNverified information thus irrevocably corrupting an ancestry.
I have just as big a problem with posting VERIFIED information and not including the source identification.
Without a bonafied source citation, proven information is worthless !!!

It's the same principle as if someone knocked on your door and announced they were your long lost brother... you would demand proof, right? Or if the goverment demanded you had to support someone you never heard of...you would demand proof they were your kinfolk, right?

There's a lesson here ... why would anyone want someone else's children or grandparents or aunts or uncles to pass on to their own children and grandchildren as their own ?
The fact that this practice is epidemic among today's family researchers is devastating.
The realization that my 31 years of faithful research and documentation will most likely be lost in the mire mis-information utterly breaks my heart.

It is our RESPONSIBILITY to verify the past, provide documents of proof, or the future will be lost to our descendants forever !!!

Kathye [Payne] Upham
5G-grand daughter of Walter Nunnally & Priscilla Womack
4G-grand daughter of William Womack Nunnelee & Ann Franklin
3G-grand daughter of Walter Nunnelee and Susannah Hubbard

Re: Robert Franklin Nunley, b. 1849

Robert Franklin Nunley, b. 1849, was my great-grandfather. His son, Robert Barlett (not Bart) Nunley was my grandfather. Robert Barlett was born March 20, 1899 and died February 16, 1981. (He's buried in the Black
Cemetary on the Left Fork of Durbin Creek, Boyd Co., Ky. Robert Franklin Nunley was born July 26, 1849 in Greenup (now Boyd Co.), Ky. He married Martha Jane Clay, 1/13/1880 in Lawrence Co., Ky. and he died 7/6/1925 and is buried in what I believe is Fannin Cemetary on Whites Creek, Boyd Co., Ky. There are a few of his grandchildren still living (my father for example). Robert Franklin's father was William Nunley (married to Elizabeth Mutters) and they are buried in a cemetary on Rt. 180, Boyd Co., Ky. I am still unable to locate William's father. I can be e-mailed at mbd7557@yahoo.com if you have more information by now, that you would like to share. I do have some information on Martha Jane Clay (distantly related to Henry Clay, the statesman)if you are interested.
The name of the website is: The Nunleys of Tishomingo County, Mississippi. I believe the link is http://www.geocities.com/shannonsdream/ Let me know if you can access it. I believe the John Nunley b: 1795 may be my great great grandfather. The only difference is they say he
came from Warren, TN, when in fact the Census Records state North Carolina. There are a couple of other family trees in Ancestry.com that also show the same pic of him as well. I'm not 100% sure this is his pic. I believe another family tree also shows him being born in 1765...Let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Pat

Hi Linda:

Just read your last message re: Nunleys. Thanks for checking on this for me. However, I am not familiar with any of the names you provided. The only thing I have found on my John Nunley was the 1850 Census in Tishomingo County, Ms. It showed his wife as Mahala, and (4) children, the youngest being Ruth/Rutha Nunley born about 1846. The Census indicated John Nunley as being from North Carolina and being born about 1795 (55 yrs old). Rutha married Isom Sanders in 1859 in Tishomingo County, Ms. After giving birth to about 7 children including my grandfather William Marion Sanders, she died April 1891. I found an interesting family tree for the Nunley's thru Google, and interestingly, it shows a picture of the same John Nunley born in 1795. He has strong Cherokee Indian features. Have you seen that Website? That family tree states he is from Warren County, Tennessee. Gets confusing doesn't it?..smiles. Thanks again for the info. Pat

Re: William B. Nunley

Hello. I'm late to this conversation.

William B. Nunley who first married Sarah Jane Smart, 2nd married Margaret Ark in Grundy County around 1867. Nobody has known who she is, but now I do. She is my 2ggrandmother.

Her maiden name is Margaret Qualls and she was first married to John Orrick in Warren Co TN about 1847. John was shot at Shiloh (fighting for the south along with his neighbors) and left Margaret and 6 kids to poverty. This family pronounced their name Ark and some of the kids used Arrick - my line.

About a year after Sarah Jane Smartt died, Nunley married Margaret and they had at least one kid - Fannie. Fannie went by Arrick and married a Baugus in Hardin Co.

Since W.B. Nunley fought for the North (1st AL Vidette), Margaret applied for his pension after he died. It took a lot of convincing because she used the name Ark, and there are several wonderful affidavits in the pension app telling the whole story, along with an eye-witness account of John Orrick/Arrick's shooting. Wow am I lucky!

Strange things include: William is in the house of Margaret Arke in Grundy 1870 as William Jones. He must have had trouble returning to that area after the war.
And, Fannie's death cert says her father is John Nunley. Now either that's a simple mistake, or a scandal, as William has a son named John about Margaret's age.

Would love to talk more to anyone about all of this.

_______________________________________________
Roger Arrick
Roger@Arrick.com
Tyler, TX
