Sigh, it has been my experience in 30 years of kinfolk hunting that way too many people assume a maiden name for all the wrong reasons.....and then it just keeps been passed on and on with no trying to verify it until it's been published world wide.
Look at how many of our Nunnally's are reported to have married Susanna TRENT..... she either lived a couple of hundred years or there were lots of Susannah Trent's and they all married Nunnally's, or see paragraph above.
I personally have no clue what Elizabeth's maiden name was but I can throw a monkey wrench into the equasion....
"Elizabeth BOWMAN nee NUNNELLY, late widow and relict of Daniel NUNNELLY of Charles City Co. and John BOWMAN of Roxdale in Henrico Co. do sell a plantation bequeathed to Elizabeth called "Bull Hill" in Charles City Co. to Walter NUNNELLY son and heir of Daniel for 1200lbs. of tobacco. Dated 20 Apr 1693. Recorded 1 Mar 1707. Page 83, Henrico Co. (VA) Deeds 1706 - 1737."
Notice the wording that identifies Elizabeth.....
"Nee" comes from a French word: né, meaning 'born'.
In other words, 'what name were you born with' or 'what was your maiden name'?
Tee, hee I will leave you Nunnally cousins with that one to chew on.........there are just too many of my Nunnelee kinfolk to yet identify and prove, so I'm leaving "Grandma Elizabeth's" maiden name up to you cousins who live near the VA Archives.
