Have you found out anymore about Judith D Nunnally? I am living in the house her and John Carter built in La Grange Texas. My mother told me a story about Judith that had been passed down to her. Judiths mother died when she was just a child, and her father was a Dr. He went out on a house call in a bad storm and was washed off a bridge and died leaving Judith an heiress of a large plantation. John Halifax Carter married her and they eventually came to Texas. On the road to texas the children fought non stop in the wagon. Judith carried a wisteria plant with her which she planted in front of the house. I dont know if its all true but there was wisteria planted here. I dont know what her parents names were.

Richard A. Nunnally born c.1863 in Virginia

I'm actually looking for Richard's wife, Annie (Jones? according to my mom). They are spelled wrong in the 1900 Federal Census transcription (spelled Nunalley, with Nunally as an alternate spelling). They are the parents of, among others, my adoptive grandfather, Harry Alvin Nunnally. He and my adoptive grandmother, Mary Marie Hiteshue, adopted my mother, Betty Jane Nunnally, at one year of age. They are the only parents she ever knew, and always will be her only parents. My father just passed away last week and Mom is more interested in her Nunnally/Hiteshue linage. I know from Mom that the Nunnally's Chocolates fortune is lurking around in there somewhere. Thanks for any help you can give, perhaps I can give some in return.

This was originally posted several years ago. We are still looking for any information on James Edwin Nunnally.

I'm looking for any relatives of James Edwin Nunnally originally from the Chicago area. He was born in Springfield, IL in 1940 and grew up on the south side of Chicago. He was married to Judy Graham in the early 60's and later married to Margaret Svinning of Hinsdale, IL in 1968. From the early 70's up until his death in 1992 his children have lost contact with him. From his obituary we know that he lived in New Port Richey, FL at the time of his death and lived in Fort Lauderdale, FL before that. His 5 children are David, Anne, Michael, Robert (deceased) and Deborah. If you have any information please email me at amlemke@gmail.com.
Re: Nunnally related to Nunley??????

Yes, cousins...As best as it can be figured out, the name was originally spelled Nunnally...but in those days few people were educated and the spelling became whatever it sounded like to the individual or the clerk in any transaction.

The original was like Nunn-a-lea, which might have been a place name in the old country, which was most likely England, or possibly Wales, I don't have any information re French Nunnallys and doubt that. Nunn-a-lea could indicate
closeness to a meadow or as sometimes spelled [among others] 'Nunnery' could indicate a location near [surprise] a Nunnery.

Obadiah b. 1756 was the first to use this spelling. Obadiah was b. in Amelia Co, son of Joseph, jr. and was orphaned young, He married Frances and fought in the Rev. War. Son Obadiah received Bounty land for father's service: 3 years on the Continental Line. Obaddiah also fought in Rev.
Obadiah m. Elizabeth Baldwin and d. in Caswell Co., NC.

Jeanrosem

Hello.

The father of my line of Nunnally's was Elisha Nunnally, born 1779 in Virginia. He moved to Davidson County, North Carolina at 21 years of age. He married in North Carolina and had seven children. We have not been able to connect him back to the Virginia Nunnally's. Most of Elisha's children moved to Pike County, Indiana around 1841, but two brothers moved to Lawrence County, Arkansas after the passing of their father. The only member of this Nunnally clan to remain in North Carolina was Elisha's youngest daughter, Fannie, who married a William Simmerson (Simerson).
I'm searching for Olivia Nunnally. She was possibly adopted by the Nunnallys. I don't have any info on who her parents were but she married Eli Crum in Tennessee in 1879 and then lived and died in Hickory Flat, Mississippi. There has been some info that they might have lived in Ellis, TX for a while but her son, William Allen Crum, was born in Hickory Flat, MS. Please email me at timejuglerpa@comcast.net.
Thank you,
Terri

Hello...
William Otis Nunnally was my grandfather. I also knew Helen (she may have been referred to as Sis, I can check on that). Without looking at my records right now, I can assure you of the lineage back to approx 1612 (or shortly thereafter). Also, of interest, I trace the family name back to Nonely, a village in Stropshire, England.
I have quite a bit of verifiable information including legal documents.
Keep in touch
J.
hello, I'm responding from Costa Rica.
My father, William Leverette Nunnally is from Dinwiddi VA. His fathers name was Otis, and to my recollection, his mothers name may have been Lula. I believe that they both passed away in 1964. My father died this past December.
I do believe that my sister has a family tree for the family. btw, I believe that my grandmothers maiden name is More or Moore. I can verify this, if you wish
J Wayne Nunnally

Sarah Nunnelley (Nunnally), daughter of Washington A

Sarah Adilene Nunnelley (born Georgia 1837) is my gg-grandmother. She married Wiliam Dodson.
I'm trying to track down any info on her and her line/ancestors, as I have very little.
I believe Washington A. Nunnally (born Georgia 1814) is her father. (I have no idea which spelling is correct.) I believe Capt. Horatio Nunnally is Washington's father.
Does anyone else share this line or have any info? Also, I was told my whole life that we were Scottish, possibly Scottish-Irish on this side, but it seems the Nunnally family goes hundreds of years back in the U.S. states/colonies, and before that came from England.

"We have the paper and I have photocopied your ancestor’s obituary. The only bad news is, as I’m sure you’re already aware, 18th-century obituaries are very terse and our copy is ink stained (although it’s still legible). The fact that an obituary was even published for your ancestor is surprising, but probably was because of the interest in his age. In fact, on the copy of the paper we have you will see someone has marked his name with an eighteenth-century pen and added the word “Virginia”, which shows the owner of the newspaper at the time presumably was interested in this account.

The section where the notice appears is titled DEATHS and after recording the death of a minister, it says: “--Daniel Nunally of the County of Chesterfield, aged 103 years.” So you will be able to verify at least the year of his birth and death.

I have sent an enlarged photocopy of the death notice, one of the entire page it appears on (p. 3 of the newspaper), and also a photocopy of the masthead of this issue of paper, to the address you included on your original question. Enjoy!"

Best regards,

Elizabeth Watts Pope
Reference Librarian
American Antiquarian Society
185 Salisbury Street
Worcester, MA 01609
(508) 471-2171
epope@mwa.org

I have done very little research on this Daniel Nunnally but I can personally verify that this Daniel NUNNALLY lived to be 103 years old. Years ago I found notice of his death, sent for a copy, and it gave his birth date as 1685 and his death date as 1788 stating he was 103 years old when he died. His death notice was found in the : 13 March 1788 edition of the Virginia Gazette and Petersburg Intelligencer

About his marriage to Susannah [TRENT] Womack :
I have seen citations to a few records which together circumstantially prove their marriage but I have not personally seen any of these documents so I cannot attest to their actual content. However, I do have a citation that supposedly has their marriage record and if anyone has access to this book we might settle this issue :
Marriages of Some Virginia Residents 1607-1800, pg 123, by
Dorothy Ford Wulfeck, reprint 1986, Genealogical Publ Co, Baltimore, Md (I think this would be volume 5 ???)

Kathye
Good Morning Cousin !!!
What a terrific way to start my day ... with facts !!!
Thankyou, thankyou !!!
Got to ask a favor ... was all of this information from one source ??? If you know it would you cite it in your reply so researchers will have it ?

Backing up to your Woodson - I know next to nothing about his parents, siblings, or him except what was on the censuses, marriage records, and cemetery lists. I don't even know who he married ! I read that you have his will ? Would you share that with me so I can have some facts to work with ??

I really want to sort out and identify the N540's who were in Missouri before 1860. There were lots of distant cousins using different surname spellings there and Missouri was the seat of westward expansion making this identification critical..........

Remember you can always email me directly at
n540kin AT comcast.net
Cousin Kathye
Sigh, it has been my experience in 30 years of kinfolk hunting that way too many people assume a maiden name for all the wrong reasons.....and then it just keeps been passed on and on with no trying to verify it until it's been published world wide.
Look at how many of our Nunnally's are reported to have married Susanna TRENT..... she either lived a couple of hundred years or there were lots of Susannah Trent's and they all married Nunnally's, or see paragraph above.

I personally have no clue what Elizabeth's maiden name was but I can throw a monkey wrench into the equasion....

"Elizabeth BOWMAN nee NUNNELLY, late widow and relict of Daniel Nunnelly of Charles City Co. and John Bowman of Roxdale in Henrico Co. do sell a plantation bequeathed to Elizabeth called "Bull Hill" in Charles City Co. to Walter Nunnelly son and heir of Daniel for 1200lbs. of tobacco. Dated 20 Apr 1693. Recorded 1 Mar 1707. Page 83, Henrico Co. (VA) Deeds 1706 - 1737."

Notice the wording that identifies Elizabeth.....
"Nee" comes from a French word: né, meaning 'born'.
In other words, 'what name were you born with' or 'what was your maiden name'?

Tee, hee I will leave you Nunnally cousins with that one to chew on.........there are just too many of my Nunnelee kinfolk to yet identify and prove, so I'm leaving "Grandma Elizabeth's" maiden name up to you cousins who live near the VA Archives.
Cousin Kathye

Greetings Cousin, I met John Miller Nunnally on at least to ocassions that I am able to recall, he was a true southern gentleman. I was struck by the appearance of his hands, oddly enough, in that they were very similar to his brother's, my grandfather William Henry's even though facially they were disimilar in appearance...hope that was as "clear as mud" as they say. John and I had some good conversations but of course at that time I wish I had asked him about his ancestors...ah youth...I made the same mistake with my grandpa as I was a young man at the time of his passing(I was 22) and thought I had plenty of time with him left to discuss such matters. He also was a fine southern gentleman. Of possible note to you, I met their brother Henry(my gr-great uncle) at William Henry's funeral and Henry and My Grandpa did indeed look facially similar.

I thank you for your kind response, I did not realize that Gr-Grandma MILLER'S middle name was MARION. I thank you for this info...any other you can supply would be greatly appreciated, photo copies, letters, stories, pictures etc. Please feel free to e-mail me at this site and we will arrange further details. I can not find a death certificate for Samuel J. Nunnally or his wife's maiden name-Sarah Martha ?, died 1923.

In closing I thank you once again, and hope that you and yours are well and have a good summer, etc.

Regards,
Wm.

My Great-Grandfather Henry Joseph Nunnally lived and was possibly born in Crewe Virginia. He was a railroad man. He was married to Irene(MILLER). There children were in decending order. Selma, William Henry(my grandfather), Burnell(killed as a young man in auto accident), Henry, Elmitra( died a young girl), and John..who was in the insurance business. Apparently Henry Joseph's father (my great-great grandfather was named Samuel A. NUNNALLY. Samuel A. in addition to producing Henry J. also had produced a set of twin boys, one of whom was named MONROE NUNNALLY. Does anyone out there know of these people especially Henry Joseph and his dad, SAMUEL, and those that came before them.

Thankyou, William J. They are listed AS they were listed with nothing added by me.
I have them now in my notes section always.. to remind me to stick with FACT!

alright.. emailing you..
OH and I'm the branch of Woodson's Clan that stayed in OHIO.
Renita Nunley-Ruiz

My paternal grandmother was Daisy Inez Nunnally (Thompson). I don't know if she is the same Daisy Nunnally in your family. She died in the 1940's. I never met her. My father was born in Jellico, TN. I know she lived in Colorado and in Phoenix, AZ where she died.

Is this helpful to you?

Hello William
I was excited to find your message last week. If Henry Joseph Nunnally is your great grandfather then we are distant relatives. My father was James Edwin Nunnally and his father was John Miller Nunnally. Your grandfather's brother. (William Henry Nunnally) In fact, I even have a copy of my grandfather's death certificate that includes the names of our great grandparents. (Henry Joseph Nunnally and Irene Marion Miller) Unfortunately, I don't have the information that you're looking for but it shouldn't be hard to find. Have you requested the death certficate for Samuel J. Nunnally? Just a thought. Hope to hear from you :)
Debi

My Goodness...What a find...2 cousins!!! My name is Gene Paul Nunnally. I am the son of Henry E. Nunnally, son of Henry Joseph. My father, Henry moved to Mt. Clemens Michigan and married my mother, Hope Elizabeth Keating. My parents divorced when I was young and I lost contact with my father. He came to visit me later in life. I know that he had another son by the name of Michael and a daughter but I don't know her name. I know my father passed away in 1993 in Michigan because I received a insurance check. I have not been able to find Michael or his sister. It is so nice to find other relatives. Please keep in touch.
