I am related to Nutters here in Indiana. My ancestors are firm through Joseph Nutter. Joseph was born on 22-Feb-1827 in Virginia. When Joseph was 16, his father died and the rest of the family abandoned the area. Joseph stayed with the Alfred Miller family. Joseph married Nancy Ann Gearhart on 21-Nov-1850 in Clinton County, Indiana. Joseph died on 23-Dec-1906 in Forest Township, Clinton County, Indiana and is buried in Laymon Cemetery, Michigan Township, Clinton County, Indiana. Next to Joseph's grave in Laymon Cemtery is Thomas Nutter. He was born in Virginia (possibly Harrison County, Virginia) on 08-Feb-1770 (by backdating the gravestone). According to a Clinton Co, IN book, Thomas (listed as the father of Joseph in this book) rafted down the Ohio River around 1837 to Madison, Indiana. He took the Michigan Road to Secion 18 near Kilmore Creek in the Miami Reserve where they built a lean-to in the Spring of 1839 (the first settlers to Forest Township, Clinton County, Indiana). Thomas had the rest of his family here by Autumn 1839. He died on 27-July-1843 and was buried in Laymon Cemetery, Michigan Township, Clinton County, Indiana.

Is this the same Thomas Nutter listed as a son of Thomas Nutter and Sarah Goodwin? I have a theory that the Thomas Nutter buried in Clinton Co was married twice and that Charles and John Nutter listed in Clinton Co for a while around 1850 were his brothers or half-brothers before Charles and John relocated to Crawford Co, WI.
