Anthony I just recently rejoined ancestry.com. My maiden name is Nuzzi. My father was Thomas Anthony Nuzzi and his father was Antonio Nuzzi who came over to the US from Italy in 1915 I believe. He ws born in Cavat Italy and came over on a ship from Naples. I believe he came over with a friend named Comaso Nuzzo. He was married to a woman named Florence and Florence and her parents helped to raise my father. My father grew up in the south Phila area and had a sister named Rose. I also had some relatives in Camden...I believe there was a restaurant in Atlantic city named Mama Nuzzi;s which was owned by my grandfather Antonio's sister. I had an Aunt Lena and an uncle Frankie as well. I beleive her parents name was Dominic. My grandparent, Antonio and Florence divorced in 1950 down in Florida and I think I may also have some relatives there as well.I would love to have more info on my family...trying to do more research ...my father, mother and all grandparents are deceased so cant get anymore info from them. Any info anyone has on the Nuzzi's or Nuzzo's please send me a message.

Hi!
I've read some of the message boards and I believe our family name in Italy was also Nuzzio. My family is named Nuzzi or Nuzzo here in America. Many family members settled in CT, MA, PA and NJ. My niece, Verne, has a posting that you can read about my grandfather, Guiseppi Nuzzi. My parents (Michael and Antoinette Nuzzi) are deceased since the 1990's, and I am at a loss for background info. Anything you can tell me would be appreciated. Thank you.
Julie

Hi Rosalie,

I know you wrote your post a while back and I dont know if I meant to respond and did not. I f you read one of my messages the family member in Italy that is looking for relatives here in the states is from Acerra. It mentions her maiden name and some other info. Are there any older members ofyour family that would recognize these names if there is a relation? Let me know if you think there may be some connection.

Thanks Lisa

My mother's mother was an Aiardo. Some in Chicago changed the spelling of their name to Airdo. They travelled to Chicago with Iorios, deFalcos, Pignatiellos, etc., from Acerra and Pomigliana d'Arco.

As near as I can figure from familysearch.org, (the LDS site), everyone in that town was related and I am my own distant cousin.

In the 1910 era migration according to ellisislandrecords.org, when you look at the manifests, you will see that the Nuzzi/Nuzzo/Muzzo's were married to Aiardos, Espositos, etc.

I'd be delighted to hear from anyone who knows what these names mean at swfloridacoast@yahoo.com.

Re: Relatives in Italy looking for family in America

Hi!

This is the information I was able to gather from my Aunt. You could also contact her direct. Her name is Julie & her email address is vze1ry9j@verizon.net.

As for this lady nicknamed Melina, I am not sure of any connection. All I can tell you is (and you can tell her ) my grandfather was Guiseppi Nuzzi. He was from a town called Santa Maria a Vico, in the province of Caserta (I think). My grandpop had an older brother and a sister who became a nun (episcopalian, I think). My grandfather's mother died when he was a young boy. So his dad remarried and had many more children (around 14, I think). Many of these Nuzzi's later migrated to the Bari region. My grandfather
didn't like how he was treated by the new wife and as soon as he could, he left Italy and somehow got a passage on a ship and ran away to America (I think he was only 12 years old)(around the turn of the century). He later returned to get a bride, my grandmother - Maria DeFortuna (from Benevento). My Uncle Domenic was born in Italy and then they all returned to America, where our family remained. As
far as I remember, my grandpop told stories of his family's land. They grew fruit - oranges and lemons, etc. They had so much land it took 3 days to walk the property. He told stories of sleeping in the fields and the strange things he saw in the night! Grandpop Guiseppi was born in the late 1880's and lived to be 99.5 years old. He is buried in Saint Dominic's Cemetery on Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA (where my mom and dad are also burried).

Melina please tell us about your background, and I can maybe run some of this past my Aunts... They know more. I won't mind doing it, because I would like to know myself.

Thanks,
Verne

What a coincidance. My name is John Nuzzi. My grandparents came from the same area of Italy, Santa Maria. Which is just before Naples. My grand father is Thomas Clememts Nuzzi. The surname was actualy Nuzzio. The "O" was eventialy dropped because a lot of americans could not pronounse the name correctly. Most of his family grew up and stayed in the Connecticut, New York and Pennsalvania area.
