Looking for info on my uncle Edward Richard's wife. My cousins have asked me to help find information on the family.
Lena Mildred Nye, born Aug. 10, 1910 to Charles & Margaret Nye. She had a sister named Charlotte Louise who was 2-3 years younger. Father's name may have been Clarence A. She was in the Topeka, KS Children's Home from 31 May 1918 to 06 Nov 1919. Adoption final approx April 5, 1920. Mary E Gregory's name comes up on the adoption, but she died in 1923. Then a Viola Miller shows up in the 1925 census with a daughter Mildred, whom we are sure is Lena. Lena Mildred or Mildred Lena ?? married a William P. Smith. They divorced in 1938. She then married Edward A. Richard and lived in the Emporia, KS area. She had two children, Larry & Sheila (my cousins, still living). Names she may have been known by are: Lena Mildred Nye, Lena M Thompson, Lena M. Gregory, Mildred Marie Miller, Mildred Marie Smith and Mildred Marie Richard.

Descendants of Benjamin Nye and Katherine Tupper Nye

I recently bought an old book about the early families of New Hampshire and it contained a number of loose pages, hand-written, detailing the geneaologies of various families. One of the pieces of paper says this:

1. Benjamin Nye wife Katherine Tupper
2. Jonathan wife Hannah --------, Patience Burgess
3. Benjamin wife Lydia Freeman, Rachel --------
4. Jabez wife Molly Fuller, Temperance Crocker
5. William wife Lucy Doty
6. Hannah husband Benjamin Hathaway

Rebecca Hathaway married Isaac H. Eddy.

Nathan Nye 5th generation served in Revolutionary War as Adjutant in Colonel Freeman's regiment.

There are page number references to each of these entires, but these names do not appear on the pages with these numbers in the book I bought.

The author(s) of the hand-written pages seem to be from the Adams family descending from William Hinckley Nye Adams and his wife Sarah Florence Cook.

There is a photo of the old Cook-Adams residence in Campton, N. H. dated 1887 among the loose materials in the book. The people shown in the photo are named Helen Adams, Marion Adams, Grandma Adams with Ida Adams (baby), Grandma Cook and Louise Powe.

Anyone interested in these materials should contact me.

Lynda Salter Chenoweth

Sally Nye Holley from New York to Michigan in 1840

I am searching for the ancestors of Sarah (Sally) Nye who was probably born about 1797 in New York. She married John Holley who was born about 1795 in New York. I have determined from census records that they had at least seven children and maybe more. The children were probably born in Genesee, New York between about 1820 and 1838. Their names starting with the eldest are: Emeline, Caroline, Adeline, Hanford, Heman, Henry, and Mary.

The 1840 census and the later censuses do not show John Holley. I have to assume that he died shortly before 1840; possibly in New York. The family moved from New York to Michigan before 1840 possibly with other Holley's or Nye's.

Emeline Holley is a direct ancestor of mine. She married Robert Mitchell, and had three boys: Franklin, George, and a baby who died in infancy.

Sarah Nye Holley died in 1870 in Birmingham, Oakland County, Michigan, but her daughter, Emeline, preceded her in death in 1866 in Birmingham, Oakland County, Michigan.

Warren Mitchell

Neu / Ney / Nye Family Tree in PA

I have in my hands a copy of a book published on the Nye family. "A Small Branch of the Nye Family Tree - Descendents of Johan Adam Neu of PA 1749-1970". ALL of our descendents originated from Germany and settled in the Dauphin &/or Lebannon Counties of PA. The information I have spans over 225 years. If you think this might be part of your branch, reply and I will post what information I might have on your family. Please include FULL names and dates when possible. Johan Adam Neu b.1720 in Germany married twice and had 10 children - Nicholas, William, Mary Elizabeth, Fredrick, John, Mary Christina, Anna Margaret, Peter, Michael and Henry. Each son/daughter then went on to have 10-12 children of their own so you can see that this family is quite large. I hope this helps some of you.
Jennifer Shaffner - Miller - Nye

Nye Family of Orange, NY

Hi, Everyone!

I am researching my mother's father's family ancestry. My grandfather's name was Edward Charles Nye and his father's name was George Nye. George had a twin brother names Francis. My grandfather had a brother named Dody and one named Chase. All three were policemen in Bronx, NY. Their mother's name was Mary Blessing Nye. My grandfather Edward had at least one sister that died at 7 years of age as a result of the influenza plague that struck on the heels of the end of WWI. Her name was Elizabeth. Also, they had a younger brother, a teen, who was killed on the railroad tracks behind a movie theater in Hell's Kitchen. My grandfather, Edward, became a Vice Detective eventually, and my grandmother and he lived on Gunn Hill Road in the Bronx for a number of years while my mother, Frances, and her younger brother Edwin (Alan) were growing up. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, please contact me directly at dnye@earthlink.net. ANyone's input will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Diane Thomas

Who Was Sirinda Bennett Nye?

I hope someone will recognize some of these names, as I have hit a brick wall. I have in my possession an 1851 Family Bible with beautifully clear handwriting. This Bible was passed down to me, and had belonged to my gg grandmother, Sirinda NYE. It says "John NYE and Sirinda Bennett married November 13, 1845." According to census, they were both born in PA. I believe John (Nigh) NYE was born 22 Aug 1818. But WHO was Sirinda Bennett? A nickname? I believe they married in PA where the first 2 or 3 children were born. Then the family moved to Ohio, near his parents John NYE and brother Philip NYE.
John and Sirinda NYE's children were:
William Nye b. 06 Nov 1846 d. 22 Dec 1924
Lucyann Nye b. 02 Jul 1848 d. 22 Nov 1848
Henry Nye b. 30 Oct 1849 d. 21 Nov 1927
Samuel Nye b. 30 Jul 1851 d. 18 Apr 1928
David Nye b. 08 Mar 1854 d. 24 Nov 1864
Franklin Nye b. 25 Feb 1856 d. 08 Feb 1941
John Nye b. 25 Feb 1858 d. 15 May 1930
Laura Nye b. 12 Oct 1860 d. 16 Mar 1938 married
Samuel Richard (these are my great-grandparents)
Sally(Sadie)Nye b. 06 Nov 1862 d. 20 Aug 1935 married
Fred Jewell
Sirinda Bennett Nye (wife) died Nov 1864, no birthdate given. I believe John NYE may have married again.
John Nye (husband) d. 10 Oct 1895
I am fairly sure the family settled around Liberty, Crawford, OH, and later on in Michigan. If anyone has any information on the parentage of either John NYE or Sirinda BENNETT NYE or the other family members, please contact me. Sirinda Bennett NYE has been my "mystery woman" for a long time! THANK YOU so much. My email is j3zf4yg"at"sbcglobal.net
Nyes in Essex and Franklin Counties, NY - Mayflower connection?

In researching my husband's great-grandparents, I find a possible link between his great-grandmother and Mayflower passenger John Howland. There are two "gray areas" I am trying to verify through his Nye lines.

I am looking specifically at Benjamin Nye and Susan (Susannah) Phinney - trying to verify they had a son Sylvanus first of all... then that Sylvanus had a son named Zeba. These names popped up in One World Tree but I don't know the sourcing.

I have reason to then believe that Zeba had a daughter Caroline who married into the Ling family, as did her sister Betsy. Caroline's son John V. Ling was my husband's gg-grandfather.

Anyone out there familiar with these lines?

            RE, PRINTING

Harriet Nye m. 1st George W. McCoy 2nd Warner Marsh
Looking for the marriage place and date of Harriet Nye and George W. McCoy. Harriet Nye was born 21 Mar 1822 in Wayne County OH to Benjamin Nye & Azubah Webster. She came with her parents and sister Laura Lavina to a place now known as Montpelier, Muscatine County IA (established by her father for his birthplace in VT) where her father built a grist mill and then a lumber mill.

George W. McCoy was born 5 Jul 1814 in Giles County VA to George McCoy and Martha (Patsy) A. Kirk. He relocated to Cass County MI in 1829 with his parents, siblings, other family members and neighbors. Then in 1835 he moved to IA with his brother-in-law, Stephen Toney (m. Evelina McCoy 11 May 1832 in Cass Co. MI) to start a ferry service.

George worked for Benjamin Nye a short period of time. Harriet & George had to run away to get married since her father disapproved of George W. McCoy.

Harriet & George had 6 children: John Floyd, Laura Lavina, Clarence Nye, James Kirk Polk, Giles George, and Lydia.

George divorced Harriet under unusual circumstances in 1852. He died in Judsonville, Contra Costa County CA and was buried in Oakview Cem. in Antioch, Contra Costa Co. CA.

On 26 May 1853 Harriet then married Warner Marsh (b. 17 Aug 1818 in Chautauqua County NY, d. 21 Apr 1897 Robins, Lynn Co. IA & buried at the Horn Cem. near Robins). Harriet died 25 Jan 1906 and also was buried at the Horn Cem.

Harriet & Warner had 5 children included in the marriage: Cass B.U., Eldridge George, Charles S., John C. & Chloe A.

If someone knows the place and date of the marrige between Harriet Nye & George W. McCoy or the parents of her 2nd husband Warner Marsh will you please let me know. The first has been a stumbling block and the latter a brick wall since my g-grandparents were half cousins (Lydia McCoy's daughter m. Eldridge Marsh's son). If anyone is related and would like more specific information about this family and it's descendants

Edgar Willis Nye (1850-1896) Shirley ME -> Asheville NC

9 March 1896 Tonawanda News
“Bill Nye” is Dead
A Humorist and Satirist Who Made Laughter for Many.
Edgar Willis Nye, widely known under his pseudonym of “Bill Nye” as a writer of quaintly humorous sketches died at his home, near Asheville, N. C., on February 22, from the effects of a stroke of paralysis. His career was thoroughly American. He was born in Shirley, Me., August 25, 1850. At the age of two years, according to his own story, he took his parents and went West, where they settled on a farm in Wisconsin. Nye received an academical education, and in 1876 went to Wyoming, where he studied law. He said he practiced law for a time, “although frequently warned by the authorities not to do so.” He began his literary career by writing a Sunday letter for the Cheyenne Sun at one dollar a column. He later obtained a position on the Denver Tribune. His career as a humorist began when he started the “Boomerang” at Laramie. The paper was an oddity, and was quoted all over the country. The office of the paper was over a livery stable, and a sign on the door instructed callers to “Twist the tail of the gray mule and take the elevator.” The paper was a failure, but Nye was a success, and soon after began to write his letters for the New York World at a salary of $5,000 a year.
Like many humorists, Mr. Nye was a man of almost womanly gentleness of disposition. His amiability was never clouded and his good humor was as spontaneous as it was good-natured. He never forgot a friend. In later years his writings and lecturings brought an income of over $30,000 a year, and he will leave a moderate fortune for his wife and children. He really possessed fine literary abilities, and often expressed his sadness at being a mere jester. He was married to Miss Fannie Smith, of Chicago, in 1877. His daughters have been attending school at Washington, D. C.
NYE

I am just returning to my family history research after a long absence. I would like to construct a family tree for NYE.

To start with, the key figures I have are Edward and Mary A.. Nye, no birth and marriage details held. They had a daughter Mary Ann Nye, born 1850 in London, England, died 1924 in North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. She married a Thomas Knight Hasling, born 8 October, 1837 in Cornwall, England. Thomas died in 1909. I would like information about Edward and Mary's ancestors/descdants.

It is my ultimate aim to have a worldwide family tree for all people of the NYE name. I would appreciate any family tree information from anyone in the world who shares this same name within their families as I hope to make connections with them all.

If anyone wishes to send me information, either a Gedcom or a file attached to an email would be very welcome. I run Legacy 6 as a genealogy programme on my computer.

Thanks for your assistance, everyone. .
Nye family in PA

Just searching for info. on a Willam(Billy)Nye. I am trying to find out who his parents were because no one seems to know. He married a Mary Eckroth who died in 1903 two weeks after giving birth to my grandmother Ellen. Mary and Billy had children named Ellen(my grandmother), Amanda, and possibly Helen. They lived in the Miffinville area as far as I know. I do know Ellen's sister, Amanda, married a John Ream. This whole family on my mother's side was poor and kept records poorly. If anyone has any info. which would make my search easier,I would certainly appreciate any info. you may have. I might add that Billy told a cousin of mine that our family is descended from whoever came over on the Mayflower from Holland. I don't know, seems like a stretch to me.

Oregon: Jacob S. Nye descendants

I made this same offer to John O. Peters in his posting on the GenForum.com site.

Because a Nye married into our family I became privy to some handwritten/typed pages that were compiled about 30 years ago by one of his descendants, listing all the known descendants at that time. None of it is documented but it makes a wonderful "roadmap" for the JACOB S. & MARGARET NYE descendants.

I am too busy myself, trying to deal with my own personal family liiiines ...
BUT if there is ONE Nye family member that is willing to take on the responsibility of helping Jacob & Margaret's descendants track their lineage ... I will gladly photocopy the pages and mail them to that ONE person. My email is: Goofyastro@hotmail.com.

Sorry, but this IS NOT an offer to look up NYE relatives in the work.

(fyi: Nye Beach on the Oregon Coast is named after one of his descendants.)

Lynne

I have an original photo “Daisy Nye – Feb 17, 1907”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in Grand Rapids (Kent Co.) MI, by the Putney Studio on Madison Ave., and it shows a pretty girl about age 18. In a smaller handwriting by the same person is stated “Edna Nye, age 14 yrs.” Photo is on heavy cardboard, and the size of those taken between 1905-1912, so I am sure this was taken in Feb. 1907.

I found both Daisy and Edna Nye, sisters, in the 1900 census of Paris Twp., Grand Rapids (Kent Co.) MI, living with their parents Leonard and Sara Nye. Edna’s month of birth, per the census, was March 1892.

If you are related to this Nye family of Kent Co., MI, email me at margerice@prodigy.net.

Nye Family from PA & Fisher Family Connection

I am looking for the family of Nathaniel H. Nye, born about 1870. He married Martha A. They never had children. They are located on the 1910 and 1920 Census in Berwick, Columbia Co, PA. On the 1920 Census, Nathaniel and his wife are caring for their niece and nephew May and Harrison Fisher.

May and Harrison Fisher were 2 of the 5 (others are sons Leslie, Coleman & Millard) children of Edwin Fisher and his first wife Ellen who died in 1914. Ellen was born in 1874. I am not sure if she was sister to Nathaniel or to Martha A. Ellen died in Columbia Co, PA but I have been unable to locate a grave for her in Berwick or Beaver, the two town that Edwin and Ellen lived in according to the census. Coleman Fisher, son of Ellen and Edwin, died before 1910 and was born Oct 1899 (according to the 1900 census). I have been unable to locate his grave as well.

Edwin Fisher remarried within a year of his wife's death and had 6 more children with his new wife Martha A. They are Elizabeth, Edwin Peter, Marie A., Warren, James P. and Jay. On the 1920 and 1930 census, following his wife's death, none of his previous children were living with him. The older boys were living together, and then May and Harrison were with the Nye's, despite being quite young. So, it seems as if maybe the new wife moved in and the children moved out. Which strikes me as odd because Martha A. had been married previously and her daughter, Edwin's stepdaughter, is living with him.

Any help in locating the connection between Nathaniel H. Nye and the Fisher children, May and Harrison, would be greatly appreciated. I believe Nathaniel was their mother Ellen's older brother, but it is possible she was the sister of his wife Martha.

Thanks
Danica Love
danicabrown@hotmail.com

I am trying to find out when my ggrandmother and family came to this country and where their port of entry was. My ggrandmother was Caroline Nye, born in Germany in 1846.I did find her at the age of 5 years old with her family, Johannes Nichols Ney, age 50, Elizabeth Baker Ney 41, Jacob age 9,Caroline age 5, Charles age 3 and Fred age 1. It is believed that the family then traveled to Marrietta, Ohio. They are on the Ohio Census in 1860 as follows, Nichola Nye 57, Elizabeth 49, Jacob 17, Mary 15, Caroline 14, Charles 11, Fred 9, Phoebe 6, William 1. I would appreciate any information that you might have.
