Laban Oakes apparently left the Halifax County, Virginia, area shortly before 1800. Due to the scarcity of frontier records, little has been found of him after that. There is a Laban Oaks on the 1810 census of Logan County, Kentucky, that may be him. His brother, Hezekiah, and son, James, appear on the 1830 census of Bedford County, Tennessee, and the 1840 census of Coffee County, Tennessee. It was in the same Beechgrove area. Coffee County split off from Bedford County. James died shortly after 1840. His wife and family went south into the new Chickasaw lands in northeastern Mississippi.

WOW...more than I had by a long shot!
Yes, Emma was a twin of Ella and IF my information is correct (and this is where I am trying to find some documentation) Emma married Rufus Matthews and they had a child, Ellie Forrest b 7/28/1890, before she died 9/27/1891. (She is buried at Wesley Chapel.) Evidently Ellie was raised by her paternal grandparents as she is listed with them in the 1900 census in Texas with her father living next door evidently married to an Emma whom he married in 1894. They have 2 daughters, Bettie 3 and Beatrice 1.
I will more carefully review what you sent and see if there is anything I can add...but seriously doubt it! I did notice that Frances Oaks and James O'Neal had 2 other children listed with them in the 1900 census...a Joseph L and Jane P. plus another that was not readable. Need to take another look at that and see if I can decipher it any better.
Thanks for all this info.
If you come across anything on Emma, please let me know.

John Oak(e)s Marlboro MA 1732

My line is stalled with John Oak(e)s "of Marlboro" who married Experience Walcott (Walcut) 1732 in Salem, MA. John was in Petersham, MA from abt 1738 to 1748 when he removed to Sunderland, MA where he own/operated a grist mill. He died in 1767 and his son, Jonathan, sold the mill in 1768.
My line is fully documented back to John, with one weak link (1927 Town Clerk's letter} through John's son David. No one has been able to link my John to any of the other Oak(e)(s) lines in MA.
If you are an Oak(e)(s) with a well documented lineage to or through MA in the 17th Century, I would be interested in discussing genetic genealogy testing, off line.
Floyd Oakes fmoakes@aol.com

He had siblings, Hezekiah and Josias.
James married Jane Norton and one of their children was named Leban Fletcher who married Martha Jane Baker.
Is this the same family you are looking for?

We may have corresponded before on the Meigs List.

I believe your Lucinda was the sister of Gorham Oaks - he married Luana Childs; they had 3 children - Levi, L and Lucinda. Luana died about a month after birth to Lucinda, who died just a few days later.

Gorham 2nd wife was the widow of Giles S. Case - Clarissa McAboy Case. Clarissa brought one daughter (Lutilla) (my gg-grandmother) to the marriage,
Gorham and Clarissa had 5 children - Giles, Edward, William, Adelia Capitola (Cappy), and Magnolia (Maggie).

Lutilla married Oscar Chase and they had 3 children - Clara Blanche, Truman Judd, and Clarence. Truman married Trudy Forrest, daughter of Worley and Carrie (Rutherford). They had two sons - Robert and Leland.

Oaks/Oakes Family

In the 1880 Census William C. "Casper" Oaks and Rebecca "Dunn" Oaks are living in this county with their children. I have been trying to figure out who William's parents are and I have narrowed it down to Rice T. "Thomas" and Susan Bear. Both Rice and Susan are burried in the Russellville Community Cemetary in Hamblen County. In the 1860 census there is a William J. living with Rice (the age is about right to be my William), in the 1870 and 1880 Census William has lived near Rice. I am having a hard time trying to tie my William with the William living with Rice in 1860. If anyone has any information they would like to share on this family I would greatly appreciate any help.
Thank you,
Debbie
