FARRELL, Pa. - Ricky Charles Oatis, 52, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at his home.
Oatis was born July 24, 1958, in Sharon, Pa., a son of Lafayette and Ada Stine Powell Oatis.
Oatis was a code enforcement officer and part-time firefighter in Farrell, Pa.
He served 20 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1999.
Oatis is survived by his wife, Willie Mae McNair Oatis; his father of Farrell, Pa.; daughters, Nakeysha Whitley of Phoenix, Arizona, LaMisha Epes of Brandywine, Md., and Tashinia Lowe of Farrell; two sons, Michael Shipman of Fayetteville, N.C., and Royce Shipman of Ellenwood, Ga.; sisters, Ethelrene James and Laffaline Selter, both of Farrell, Amy Perrien of Oakpark, Md., and Virginia Ivey of Sharon, Pa.; brothers, Joseph, Donald and Jeffery Oatis, all of Farrell; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister.
The family will receive friends at the home of Laffaline Seltzer, 639 Sharon New Castle Road, Farrell, Pa., and from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at Washington Funeral Home and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, when the service begins.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, Hermitage, Pa.
