Hello,

My maiden name was Nancy Obermiller and my immigrant ancestor was August Obermiller who immigrated from Baden, Germany to the USA in 1846. His wife was Maria Justina Unterreiner, who was also from Baden. They settled in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri.

I have started an Obermiller DNA project, because I would like to discover how and if we are all related. The DNA test consists of a painless swab of the inside of your cheek that you do in the privacy of your own home. Only men with the last name Obermiller or some variation of that name qualify to take the test. If you have any male Obermiller relatives, please encourage them to join the project. Here is a link to the sign up page:
https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=U81746&...;...

Sincerely,
Nancy Kiser

PS - Hello to my brother Roy and my cousin Susan!
My grandfather (Charles Martin) and his brother (Jacob) acconpanied their mother (Caroline Ackermann) from Wurttemberg (2 dots over u) in 1867. The father could not leave because he was in the Military; he died shortly after the left the country. There last name was Obermuller (2 dots over u) ; which had usual americanizing change to Obermiller upon leaving Wurttemberg. My grandfather changed to Overmiller upon naturaliztion. Can not find any thing about there father but their mother was from Lippoldswelter, Backnang. This is a few miles ENE of Stuttgart. This is all I know and hav not been able to find any records of there trip to there settling in Buchanan County, MO.

OBERMILLER / UNTERREINER

I have in my notes that August OBERMILLER married Maria Justine UNTERREINER 11 Nov., 1845. Maria was born 12 May, 1827 in Baden, Germany the daughter of Anton UNTERREINER and Regina SCHOTT and she died 12 Nov., 1897 in Jackson, Missouri. August was the son of Theodore OPEMYLLER (as it was spelled) and Harriet SACHS. My source for this information is St. Mary's of the Barren Church Records, #428 and a message posted to rootsweb by Douglas Fassbinder doug_fassbinder@yahoo.com.

Also, in the 1880 Federal Census for Bryd, Cape Girardeau County, Missouri it has August OBERMILLER age 65 (born 1815 Baden, Germany), listed as a retired doctor. It lists his wife Juscene (as it was spelled) and 3 sons: August W., age 23 (occupation: cooper), William, age 22 and Herman, age 14.

I believe that Maria Justine UNTERREINER was the sister of my ggg grandmother Mary Ida UNTERREINER and I was wondering if you or anyone familiar with this Obermiller family would be able to tie Maria Justine and Mary Ida together as siblings. From previous research I have found that Mary Ida left her stepmother and father in Germany and moved to Perry County, Missouri to live with an uncle. Anton Unterreiner was married to Regina Schott but she died sometime between 1828 and 1830 when Anton remarried a lady named Gertrude WALZ. Anton and Gertrude also came to Perry County, Missouri eventually. There is possibly another sibling of Maria and Mary and that is a Matthew or Matthius UNTERREINER. He was born in 1828 in Baden, Germany and died 20 March, 1875 in Madison County, Missouri. He is also listed in the above mentioned church records as the son of Anton Unterreiner and Regina Schott. Any information you can give me will be appreciated.

You were close Suzy. My line emigrated from Bavaria (Baden) in 1854 via August Obermiller. August settled in the bootheel area of Missouri/Illinois. I have most of the descendants. The Bavarian Obermillers were found along the Neckar River Valley south of Stuttgart. There are still some there. The name was spelled Obermiller, not Obermueller. I would like to hear from the Deutscheland cousins if any of you are on the web. Always glad to hear from the family tree. Write me by E-mail. Roy.

Obermillers in NE and CA

Does anyone know of a Harold Obermiller who lived in Hawthorne, CA in the late 1950's? He may have gone by the nickname "Obie". I believe he was one of 11 children, originally born in Nebraska around 1936.

Original Obermiller

My cousin, Gary Kaletta, of St. Loius, Mo. spent a year researching the Obermiller name and history. He thinks that the first Obermiller was a Eugene who came from Germany in around 1865, and was a surgeon who helped in the civil war. Gary has a very extensive tree of the heritage of the Obermiller name. I do not have my cousin's telephone number, but his mother is Jean Kaletta (on Beaucaire) in St. Louis, and she would have his telephone number. Good luck!
