Hello: Could you take a minute to tell me how to research back that far in Germany? My Grandfather was Josef (Joseph) Obert (b.1904) from Rust Germany who came to the US in 1927 and lived in NY and then in New Jersey (d.1981). I'd like to find out who his parents, grandparents, siblings, etc. were.

Hello: My grandfathers name was Josef Obert (became Joseph once he was in the US). He was born in Rust Germany January 11 1904 and came to New York around December of 1927 where he worked as a butcher. I know he had siblings in Langhurst Germany. If you have any other information on his relatives I would be thrilled to get it. I wish I could help you out but I just started doing my family tree and have only gotten as far back as about 1900. Best, -Sloan Johnson

This line of discussion is several years old, but I was hoping someone might still be monitoring it. I am descended from George Obert, born circa 1834 in Baden. George's sons included Louis Obert, born in 1867. Louis was a Philadelphia, PA, police officer. He is the father of William Obert who was my grandfather. William Obert is the end of this line as he had only a daughter.

Any information regarding how I fit into the information already gathered would be most appreciated.

Bill Franz

Thanks for taking the time to do this. I had searched the census dates as well but that was all I had on these folks. I was taking a longshot that someone would know one of the people. Except for my direct line, the siblings are all lost to me. Before trying to find marriage certificates, death certificates, and the like, I was trying to get a little more background. Thanks again.

Bill

I did a census search for you, They are on 1870, 1880, 1900 1910 an 1930.1870 there is no Father stated So George must have died before 1870. It is similar info to 1880. Louis is also on the 1910 at a police officer as well.

I'm working on the descendents of my 5ggrandfather Boyce John Pruden II b 1773 NJ. He had a son Silas who had a daughter Mary B who married Milo Everts. They had a daughter Juliette who married Charles Winthrop Adams. They had a daughter Mary Elvira who married Frances Marion Obert b 21 Sep 1846 WI. One of their sons was a Henry Francis Obert b 15 Jun 1873 WI, which makes me suspect Frances was a member of the Obert line in this thread. I've got about 50 descendents of Frances & Mary, but only up to the 1910s or so. I'd be interested in finding someone to fill in the later generations if possible.

Should there be anyone from this line who wants more info on the Pruden connection, I'd be happy to fill them in.

His first wife was Caterina and their children were Michael, Mary, Peter,Domenic and John. Caterina died in child birth with John and James then married my great grandmother, Margherite Pedretti. Their children were Joseph, Paul, Anne (my grandmother) and Battista James. Now here is where we part facts. Margherite died in child birth with the last child. James died in 1928 in Cary.

Yes there is at least one book out there. The one I have was published by Ila Obert Bovee and is almost 500 pages complete with many photos. As of January 1995, her address was 7117 58th Ave NE, Seattle, Wa 98115. The phone listed is (206) 522-4156 but don't know if any of this is current. I'm hoping that someone entered a copy at the Family History Library of the Mormon Church so that it would be available to all interested parties. There are three David Oberts listed in the directory, David Donald, David Eugene, and David Ray Obert. We must be a close clan because all these names are used over and over. My middle name is David, my brother is Ray and my dad was Donald. Wherre do you fit into this web?

Hi Mike -- prior to reading one of your previous postings, I was unaware of an Obert book. I'm certainly curious about the contents and would like to learn more. I sent Terri an e-mail (to the address on her posting) just yesterday. Feel free to contact me directly at david.obert@usfc.com or djobert@earthlink.net. -- David

Hi Terri, This book was printed about 10 years ago by Ila Obert Bovee and I'm not even sure if she is still alive. I guess its up to each of us to enter the new information to keep things current. Each of us was given a questionaire before the book was published and that is how you see the entries for our family. Everyone was also notified before the book was printed and given a chance to place an order. I still have my original and have not made any changes. If you compile the new entries for Anita's and Donna's families, I'll add it to my book. If you need a copy of the book you can try to contact Ila Bovee, otherwise you will have to take mom's to someone like Kinkos and make a copy. Good luck, and the desert was fun!
