Ernst Obst, born 27 May 1882. Entered US from Russia via Ellis Island 15 Apr 1903 aboard The Albano. Per Hamburg emmigration records was to join brother-in-law, Albert Shaube, in NYC. Wife, Bertha Quetschlich (born 19 May 1875), and baby daughter, Olga (31 Dec 1902), followed 5 months later (arrival 24 May 1903) aboard SS Blucher to Ellis, NYC. Per immigration records last residence was Lippin (cannot find this city in old maps). Bertha listed Rubon as last residence.
Cannot find the city names in any old maps. European territories under much change during this time. Since baby's name was Olga (tradition in Russia for children to have Russian names), I assume the info I have that they came from Russia to be correct.
Family moved from NY to Elizabeth, NJ prior to the 1910 census. Had 9 children (latter 8 born here): Olga, Gustav, Ernest, Elizabeth (died at birth?), Wilhelmina, William, Martha, Joseph, & Henry (died at birth?).
Ellis records show Ernst was a blacksmith. He owned a tavern in NJ. Per family stories, Bertha had a sister, Ida Simon (from France), and two brothers, Paul and Henry (both of Germany).
Only reference to Albert Shaube shows him as a ship's captain and his wife Mary (do NOT know if this is Ernst's sister) travelled with him as a ship's mate.
Any information to any of these surnames or localities would be greatly appreciate. My search of this branch has stalled pending more info. Thanks.
