Rebecca "Becky" Odell, 40, of Erie,CO,PA,
and formerly of Rhode Island, died Friday morning October 30, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh
following a brief illness.
A resident of Erie since 1998 she was born in Wakefield, Rhode Island
on December 30, 1968
a daughter of Jeremiah Odell and Frances Schofield Olsen. Becky worked at the Gertrude Barber Center in the transitional work program with the night crew.
She was a member of the Erie Jolly Jesters and her name was Skittles.
She loved computer games
and was a collector.
In addition to her parents
she is survived by two sisters, Bettyann Redfield of Montana
and Kathryn D.V. Rodriguez and her husband Auturo of Lilburn, Ga.;
two brothers, Mark Kemp of Rhode Island
and Michael Odell of Ithaca, N.Y.;
and her special friends, Fred and Teri.
Many nieces, nephews,
and great nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her step father Frank Olsen. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road (corner of East Gore and Pine Ave.) on Monday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and are invited to a committal service at Lowville Cemetery on Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m.. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.

I am wondering if John Price Odell is the son of Stephen and Eleanor Price Odell. Although I see John P Odell with Sarah and John Odell with Stephen and Eleanor in 1850 Belmont County census records, childrens' names make sense. Additionally, in later census records in Illinois, John P Odell's parents are listed as born in Connecticut and Maryland making sense with Stephen and Eleanor Price Odell.

Well...some of the names like Isaac and Nancy are in my tree but they married different people and mostly stayed in Indiana so I doubt that's a match. However...there were three Odell brothers who came over from England. The eldest named Young Odell was brought over by a man claiming to be Abna. I am assuming he came not knowing who he was but he eventually learned his identity and went back to reunite with his two brothers in England...sell the estate and move to the American Colonies around the 1600's. One brother settled in New York, the other in Virginia among the Low Dutch and Young stayed in South Carolina. My branch came from the New York brother. It may be possible that the South Carolina brother moved into Tennessee then up to Illinois. I don't know if this helps at all but it may be where your branch comes from.

I'm just now delving into this so I'm learning more all the time if I find anything I'll let you know but I have the 1800's to present pretty much lined out on my side of the branch.

I am wondering if any of you know whether your ODELLs were related to a group that was in Tennessee a generation or 2 before. Some of them would have come through Indiana and perhaps stayed while others went on from Indiana to Illinois in the late 1820's or early 1830's. One couple, Isaac and Mary (GAMMILL) O'DELL, buried a young child in IN before moving on to Coles Co., IL. Two more of the group who went on to IL were a Nancy O'DELL who married Andrew CLARK in Coles Co.IL in 1833 and Phillip O'DELL who married Mary Jane YOCUM in Coles Co.IL in 1839. These 3 O'DELLs were all born in TN and it seems extremely likely that they were siblings, but we have had no luck at all discovering who their parents and possible other siblings might be. Can you see any connections to your groups?

Stephen Odell 1825 - July 13, 1892 married about 1847 Hester (Esther) Cronk 1825 - 1901/1902

Their son Peter O'Dell April 1862 - December 25, 1917 maried April 21, 1893 Martha Fredericks March 8, 1873 - August 10, 1956

I show a son of Stephen and Hester named William born July 11, 1864 died May 13, 1957 married to Fanny and buried in the Pompton Lakes Reformed Church Cemetery. Son Alfred born March 2, 1901.

It would be nice if a marriage record existed for Joseph and Unity Odell but I don't know if the Strawberry Baptist church would have those records. We definitely know they are in the church rolls as husband and wife in 1776 so you would think in the small roll of people there that her parents would be there. Untangling the lines is a mess. Interestingly the Odell line may finally be back to England as there is evidence of a John Odell who came to Spotsylvania County, VA from England in 1745 according to the court records there (sorry don't have more exact details YET). considering that there is not a shred of evidence that the Odells came from New York, this may be the reason why. This is my first update to this thread in 7 yrs!!

I am trying to find info on the following family of odells. Maurice and Mary Odell live in Hempstead NY in 1930 Census
children listed are Margaret age 15, Grace age 11, William age 8, Catherine age 6 and Gertrude age 1. I also think they had another daughter (my grandmother) Leah Odell who in the 1920 census at age 8 was living with the Heiselmanns, possibky there is also a twin brother of Leah's named Philip. Believe they had two children named William Wagner O'DELL who was in Indio, California at time of his Mothers death in 1990. and daughter named Betty/Bettie who married a Donald GOLDEN she was in Potosi, Washington County, Missouri at time of Mothers death.

Don't know if you are still on this site but I also have some Odell's in my family from Westchester County. Abigail Odell b. 1750/52 in New York married James Dotten abt 1779. James was a loyalist and the family moved to the Wallace area of Nova Scotia, leaving NY in Jun 1783. One of their granddaughters married into my Embree family. I'm looking for information on James & Abigail's parents.

I am wondering whether any of you can see a connection between any of the people you have mentioned and my ggggrandmother, Nancy O'Dell who was born July 2, 1803, in Tennessee (don't know where) and married Andrew Clark in Coles County Illinois on July 7, 1833. They had 5 children and moved to Mercer County, Missouri where Nancy died on April 5, 1849. Associated with them in Coles Co, IL were a Phillip O'Dell, for whom Nancy named her 2nd child, and yet another Isaac O'Dell who married Mary Gammill and stayed in Coles Co.

Is there anyone from the Odells descended from William O'Dell II married to Sarah Vowels that can follow their line back to the 3 Odells who traveled to the Shenandoah Valley, VA? These sons were Samuel, Isaac & Stephen who were attracted there by land grants in 1730.
Samuel/Elizabeth Odell settled Passage Creek near Powell's Fort.
I have 3 Odells known to me (One of them my direct line) that have results from the male DNA test. They Are kin to each other. If a male, directly descendant (by documentation)from either of these three Odells who first settled the Shenandoah can be located, I will pay for the cost of the YDNA test so that it can be compared to my line.

I am the great-nephew of Hial Bradford Odell, the grandson of his brother, Walter Lynn Odell. Hial Bradford Odell, Walter Lynn Odell, and Robert Barfoot Odell are the children from Walter Church Odell's marriage to Mildred Eliza Bradford. I am interested in Walter Church Odell's children from his second marriage, since I wasn't aware that he had re-married. My father has never mentioned cousins in California. I am interested in learning more about this side of my family.

I am looking for an ___Odell who m Mary Boland or Rowland before her father's will of 1804 in Laurens Dist., SC. My theory is that perhaps her Odell husband died before 1815. I think she is the Mary who marries Samuel Fowler before 1815. They buy land in Barren Co., KY in 1815. This land is subject to being sold in 1857, but the dau. who lives there gets the sale put off 1 year. When it is sold in 1858, the heirs are: Lydia & Charles Crouch, James R. & John R. Fowler, Juliet & John O. Frank, Nancy & Joseph Akin, Mary May & John Thomas Fowler, Eliz. Fowler, Harriet & James Leechman.

In the 1810 census of Newberry Co., SC there is a Baruch Odell. Could this be Bascom Odell? The transcribers for SC didn't know some of the names & some are a mystery!! 1810 Pendelton Co., SC has 3 Odells: James, John P., & Reginald. Do you know who they married or who their parents are? I was looking for an___Odell- Mary Rowland marriage in Laurens Dist., SC. When I saw the Webb- Odell marriage, I must tell you that that probably took place in Laurens, or Pendleton, Or Newberry, SC. The Mary Rowland, I seek to know which Odell she married, had a sister who married a Webb. These families were close to the Cocke Co., TN Saylor family & Fowler & Yett families in both Cocke Co., TN & Laurens & Pendelton Cos., SC, between Spartanburg & Anderson, SC.
I think the Odells who were in SC came from the Prince George, MD family. See info. by sfg2000 from Albany, TX. & info. from vikinggames, both researchers have info. in the Family Tree section of ancestry. See Thorn family.
In the 1810 cen. of Newberry, SC there is a Baruch Odell. In Pendelton Co., SC 1810 there are 3: James, John P. & Reginald Odell, (Reg) may imply royal ancestors.

I see James Hendricks Odell m Mary Wyatt. I had a Fowler cousin that m a Wyatt from Laurens, SC. That is probably the son or grson of John bc 1728 m Eleanor Hendricks Odell from Prince George Co., NC. John is the bro. of the James Odell bc 1726 m Martha Prather bc 1730 who had Martha Odell bc 1759 m Joseph Jeanes b 1755, d 1826, etc., is the son of Thomas bc 1693 & Margaret Beall Odell of Prince George Co., MD. James & Martha Prather Odell also had Sarah Odell bc 1755 Frederick Co., MD mc 1774 Jacob Duckett bc 1757, d 1840 Buncombe Co., NC & they had Richard Duckett 1775-1860. James is the bro. of Thomas bc 1719-1721 m Sarah Ridgeley Odell & bro. of Wm. Odell bc 1714.

I would like to know the names & birth & death dates of all the grsons of Thomas & Margaret Beall Odell of Prince Geo. Co., MD. Does anyone know the sons of Wm. bc 1714, Thomas bc 1719, & the sons of James bc 1726 Odell? (John's are given & don't fit an Odell having m Mary Rowland before 1804 in Laurens Co., SC, then dieing between 1804- 1813, place unk.) Bethel Odell was born in White County Tenn Also living next door to Bethel is a James Odle which I persume would be Bethel Father, Bethel serviced in the Union Army during the Civil War. My deceased wife was the grandaughter of Henry Charles Bascom "Jack" Odell who was the son of Bethel Odell.
