My grandfather was Charles G. Oler, a fair-skinned black man. His sisters were Mable, Iris, and Blanche. He had 10 children, yet he named my mother after himself. My siblings and I have been told for many years that my great-great grandfather was a white man and that the German spelling of his name was changed to Oler. Can someone give me an idea of how to research further? Does anyone know more about the African American connection to the Oehlers? My grandparents, Charles and Mary and his sisters ended up in Houston, Texas
