My name is Diane ogdie; alex was my grandfather and he came from Syria to Argentina and then to south dakota. My father, Mohamed, was born in sd after Alex,s wife Fatima came to the us from Syria. I don't know of an Ollie, rather a Tony, who was Alex's son, who travelled the same route as Alex. Fatima came later , after the other children died in Syria. Alex and Fatima had Mohamed, Sam,Albert Abraham, and Ella, in addition to tony. I can't find any refeferences for anyone beyond Alex and Fatima. If you have info on ancestors from Alex and or Fatima I would like to hear from you.

Re: Ogdie

Alex Ogdie shows up in the 1930 census and he also shows up in the 1920 census. In the 1920 census, he is listed as Aleck Ogde. Both list several children in the home and one actually lists a daughter and a granddaughter with the last name Kadura.

The 1920 and 1930 census shows a huge discrepancy in ages. In Fatima's case she is either born 1880 or around 1874 or so. That makes it strange to be Ollie J. Ogdie's mother since he is most definitely born in 1885. Is it possible she is a stepmother or is there something regarding the culture at that time that we don't know about?

I have found out quite a lot about the Ogdie family. And yes we are all "cousins" in a fashion.

I have found that the spelling deviates to Okdie as well. The people of this name are from a village in Lebanon(Syria) "Karoun". In Michigan there is a society of people that gather yearly from this village. I have found many cousins in this state. I've not heard of the names you mention though? Do you have birthdates for your grandparants? You can email me personally at ldawson01@comcast.net and I can tell you more.

Nice to meet you cousin!!!!

Hi Lisa,

It seems obvious to me too, but I've had trouble tracking down any family history as well. My grandparents, Mildred and Rudolph Ogdie lived in South Dakota for quite some time and I'd found information about a Sam Ogdie who lived in South Dakota, but not much else. What information have you come across?

Ogdie

It seems obvious to me that all Ogdies are somehow related. I am trying to do research, but I come up empty on any search for this "syrian" name. Alex Ogdie arrived here in 1890 his "son" Ollie Ogdie in "1901" and Alex Wife Fatima in 1905. from 1890 to 1930 Alex never shows up on a census. Must be a enumerator naming convention that is preventing me from finding them on census prior. I cannot find them on ellis island either. Having nothing other than a bunch of names to go from, I am hitting brick walls. Any help would be appreciated.
