Hello, Sharon.

I am also related to Benjamin Ogle's son, John (1813-1889) and John's wife, Cynthia Ann Sims (1813-1877), but through Nancy's younger sister, Sarah Ellen (1850-1923). Though I might be a few years behind you in the search for family tree info, I'd be glad to share what I have with you.

James Ogle / Mordicai Ogle - Location of Grave Sites

Does anyone know the exact location of where Mordicai and his son, James are buried. It is said they are buried in the Hoopers Grove Cemetery in Muskingum County, Ohio, between Dresden and Frazeyburg. The notes that I have say that James and wife, Mary (Dowell)'s sons, Foreman and Martin V. are also buried there. Mary may also be buried there, although I have no dates or information on that.

I was in the area in May of this year and no one could tell me where the cemetery was located - no one, including the Frazeyburg mortuary had ever heard of it.

John Ogle of Indiana

I am trying like mad to find information based on other information I have.

My husbands great-grandfather was Fred Ogle who was born Dec 3rd of 1890 and died Feb 10th 1936 while surving time in prison. According to his death record he was born in Indiana to a John Ogle & Jennie Noble.

I can not for the life of me find any information on John or Jennie. I have no idea if they were ever married, when/where they were born or when/where they died.

According to the 1920 census while Fred was in prison, it states his parents were both born in Indiana.

Other information that might help is that Fred Ogle had a son named Ralph Merideth Ogle prior to his incarceration.

If anyone has any information on this particular John Ogle I would greatly appreciate it.

Martha Ogle, 1897-1885 is my 3rd great grandmother, and we got lots of info from the Sevier Co library on the Ogles. However, I have found an inconsistency.

1. John (of Delaware) Ogle - 1649, England - 1683, Delaware, married Elizabeth Wollaston, 1651, England - 1713, Delaware.
2. Sir John Ogle, 1631 England - 1683 Delaware is also married to Elizabeth Wollaston.

How do you 'jive' the dates? All were found on Family Tree Maker, Ancestry.com

Judy Bodenheimer - jbodie1@comcast.net

I am looking for any help in tracing my Ogle's back before 1820. My GGGGrand Father John Ogles was born Oct 20 1820 in Newton-Upon-Ayr Scotland to Thomas Ogles and Agnes Gray Ogles their marriage date was Oct 28, 1814 In Newton-Upon-Ayr. Thomas' parents were Thomas Ogles and Elizabeth Caldwell, they married March 6, 1790. I would like to go back further but don't know where to look. All of my Ogle grandfathers were boatbuilders so I have a hunch they came out of Northumberland, England. Also interested in Grandmothers backgrounds. Thank you!

Thank you for this vital piece of information.

Looking at this from the Longshore standpoint I had (Nancy) Ann Longshore born about 1817. Apparantly this is around 1832, which would have made her mother Ann Cox about 51 y.o.

I was able to look over the 1850 and 1860 census for Laurel Twp., Hocking County, Ohio and have come up with these few scrambled children.

Omphale (sic?) b. 1825 says (F), but possibly Orpheus.
Diana b. 1829
Hercules J. b. 1829

in 1860 Hercules Sr. is living with a 10 year old child, William Woolse b. 1850, Ohio.

The 1860 census spells Hercules as Kirkley.

This isn't much help, but thank you for your enlightenment.

john@longshore.net www.longshore.net

It has been a while since this message was posted but maybe I could still be some help. I have William Ogle 1749 buried in Newcastle, DE and he is son of James (b.1795 Perry Co. PA ) and Rachel(1796) Ogle. Children are James (m Rachel Willis), Cummings (m. Sussanah Keiser),Isabella, Caroline, John Edward, Thomas,Jacob, Robert Clark, Joseph, William, Julianna, Henrietta, and finally Alfred Leedy. I am related to the James & Rachel line through son James Irwin (1829)& Anna Marie Jackson.James Irwin died in Iredell, Texas. My information came from quite some time ago before my father died. Is this helpful or can you fill in gaps for me? I am really interested in stories, occupations, etc. My grandfather John Franklin Ogle son of James Irwin Ogle died in 1947 when I was only a year old. I would welcome any help. Thanks, Pat Corn (mrsc1946@earthlink.net)

Death of Benjamin Ogle

Appears in the Terrell Time-Star, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, 7 August 1891 ...

Bitten by a Snake He Had Beheaded

Denison, Texas, July 30 - Mr. Benjamin Ogle, a prominent farmer living about four miles southeast of the city, about two weeks ago killed a copperhead snake at his wood pile near his house, and as his children played around the wood pile, he took an ax and cut into small pieces to throw it away. While tossing the pieces to one side he picked up the head, and as he motioned his arm the mouth closed on the index finger of his left hand. One tooth entered the finger, but he thought nothing of the matter, and paid no further attention to it. The latter part of last week Mr. Ogle went into his pasture to get up some cordwood, and while at work became very warm, as the day was very hot, and from that time his finger commenced swelling. Saturday he was in the city and his hand was swollen slightly, but he heeded it not, as he entertained no fears but on returning home he felt sick. He still thought of no serious consequences. He grew worse, and a messenger was sent to the city for a physician to attend him, but before medical assistance arrived Mr. Ogle was dead. He was swollen out of proportion and the left arm and breast had turned almost black.
I am looking for more information about my ancestor, Nancy Ogle, born in Frederick Co., Maryland, 1803, married Abraham Skidgel, 1824, in Gallion, Ohio. Their children were James Fletcher, John, Robert C., Mary, Abraham Jr. She may or may have still been alive when the family moved on to Indiana. Her husband died and is buried in Oklahoma, but she did not make that move. I am trying to find her parents. Thank you.
