I do not know about your line. I suggest you check the Ogletree message board at genealogy.com. There are some very serious long-time Ogletree researchers who have posted there. I've gotten lots of help from them and found more info than at this location. Of course if you have a subscription to ancestry.com (or go to your local library and use their computers and ancestry subscription)you may find something.

She married a Harry Carter and had 5 kids.
Leonard T. Carter of Blackstone, Mass
Benny Carter of Mesquite, Texas
Winnie Hunter of Riverside, Calif
Del Warren of Pampa, Florida
Evie Miller of Audrey, Texas
someone e-mailed me and suggested that Reiner Ogletree had twin siblings in her family too. I do not have much to go on other than these names. The story I have been told by Leonard carters wife is that her mother in law (Rainer) died on a road trip to Calif. to visit relatives there. There is also a rumor of Native American decent but I have no evidence to prove this either. If any of this seems familiar to you please contact me. Thanks!

Among the old photos are photos of Frank Ogletree, James Fletcher Ogletree (father of Paul H Ogletree) and a portrait of the wife of James Fletch Ogletree. Other surnames on photos in the same box: Stanton, Hollingworth, Sewell. I don't have the photos and I don't work there. I was browsing the shop today and noticed the photos.

I have not see the 1930 census. Qite often you will see erroros on the Census it was rather easy to check the wrong box. Census are realy a great finding aid but should never be taken as the final truth. Quite often we see peoples ages cange drastically from one Census to the other.

I have quite a few documents transcribed and posted on the US GEN WEB sites related to the Ogletree line. Check them out its a free site.

Thanks for this copy of the Ogletree will. I believe I have a copy of the handwritten will. This one is a lot easier to read. These are my ancestors. By reading the recipients, it confirms his posterity.

Another relative who is working on the Ogletree line said she found a Wyatt Ogletree in 1930 Census. They were listed as being of the Black race.

Re: Wyatt Ogletree Spalding Co. Ga.

My great-grandmother's maiden name was Eliza Ogletree. She died in 1899, in or near Macon, Ga., the widow of William P. Patterson. She was the youngest daughter of Richard Ogletree and Mahitable Smith Ogletree. She had one brother, William S. Ogletree who had two sons, John and William. I do not know who their offspring were. Because of the locality of your Wyatt Ogletree, and the common surname, there is a possibility of a relationship.
Richard Ogletree (born 1791) was the son of Wiley (born 1735 in Hanover Co., Virginia & died in Wilkes Co. Ga. 1822) and Nancy Ogletree. Wiley Ogletree was one of 11 children (9 sons) born to John Ogletree. They all apparently resided in GA. So you can see the possibilities are great for a kinship to Wyatt.

My name is Mildred Collins and my grandfather was Otis Eugene Ogletree, b. 1 Aug 1875, d. 24 Jul 1962. Your grandfather was his older brother. His full name was William Benjamin Ogletree. He was always known in our family as "Uncle Benny." He was born in Newton County, Georgia and was the son of Edward H. Ogletree and Mary Susan "Mamie" Ivy Ogletree. Edward's father was Benjamin Franklin Ogletree and Mamie's father was William Henry Ivy. Thus, your grandfather was apparently named for both of his grandfathers. Benny and Otis had two sisters: Emma, b. 27 Sep 1877, d. 19 Jun 1955; and Lilla, b. 4 Apr 1880, d. 15 Oct 1918. Lilla died of influenza in the epidemic of 1918. I have much more information. I will try send you more later.

I'm definitely interested. My grandfather, William B. Ogletree, was shot by a deranged woman as he traveled by train from Utah to San Francisco. He died as a result of these wounds. My grandmother, his wife, lived to be 83. She remained in San Francisco, never remarried, and raised their children during the Great Depression. I never knew any of my grandfather's family and that part of my life remains somewhat of a mystery. Any information you can provide would be most welcome. Thank you.

Hi - great information. I have not had my DNA tested - very interesting. My GGGGGM was also Jack. My Grandmother was an Ogletree.

I ran across this in the Family Tree DNA section..thought it might help someone...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My mtDNA data is just back from FTDNA putting me in the Haplogroup I which appears to be rather low density with seven 0/0 difference matches in the HVR 1 & HVR 2 categories. The matches were primarily Germany & Ireland. There was total of sixteen 0/plus 1 matches mostly Germany & Ireland. This certainly supports the Hg I assignment.
The irony of this saga is a direct female link on my Mother's side back to my GGGGGM, a Cherokee woman b1767 in Union Co SC. Her name was 'Jack?' Mayfield, the common law wife of Stephen Mayfield b 1755 in Amherst Co VA. We do not know her Cherokee name or which specific tribe she was from in SC. Their daughter (GM3) was Rachel Zarke Mayfield b1796 in VA and who married Pleasant Ogletree, b1781 in Wilkes Co GA and who was disowned by his family for marrying a half-breed. Their daughter (GM2) Serena Ogletree b1818 in Overton Co TN had a daughter (GGM) Victoria Ogletree b1851 who in turn married John Holman in Cumberland Co KY. Their daughter Mary 'Mollie' Jane Holman was my maternal GM. Would welcome any thoughts on the HG I appearance in a line from a Cheorkee woman.
