O'Hara family 88 Hammersmith Rd, Fulham, London 1902 onwards

I am searching for descendents of James John Wm O'Hara born 1904, Lawrance Franklin O'Hara and/or Lavinia Hannah Martha O'Hara. Their parents were Alice Lavinia O'Hara (nee Thomas) and James O'Hara a police constable (presumably with the met!)
Alice Thomas was my great grandfather's sister. Contact was lost with her after great grandfather died in 1934. I believe I have a photograph of these O'Hara children taken c: 1914 ish! It was identified as the 3 O'Hara children by an elderly relative some time ago.
If anyone is descendended/related to this O'Hara family perhaps they can confirm that the photo is of the O'Hara children, I am also happy to send them a copy of the photo to add to their family tree file.

Jane
I forgot to mention that Henry, Sr. and his wife Margaret lived in Silver Run, Maryland. I have seen the farm. A road goes right through the middle of the farm. I believe it is now owned by the Brown Family. Henry, Sr. and his wife are buried in St. Joseph's Catholic Church Cemetary Taneytown, Maryland. The Office there has lot sof old records there in books, but you have to search each page as they are in no particular order. Some of the O'Hara's were married at the Basilica not to far away from Taneytown. I haven't been there yet. One of Daniels relatives a few years ago wrote a book about the family. He traveled to Cresson Pa and to the O'Hara complex in Ill. I have a copy. Evelyn

Hello Jane,

I have the complete family line for Daniel O'Harra who was a brother to your Ancestor Henry, Jr. I haven't been able to trace John from the time he was in Wisconsin. Mary Jane was married to a John E. Penn first then married John O'Hara(many different spellings on records) and had 9 children. Another of your family members told me John had twelve children, but I can only find two that he had with Sarah Wilkins. Mary Jane had 1 child with her first husban and your John had two added to my John's 9 with Mary Jane comes to twelve. Your relative was going to check the names, but she passed away before she could find out. You may e-mail me @ lpayne0809_4@msn.com Evelyn Payne

Dear clarebo,
Don't know if this is anything or not , but I have been looking for my GGGrandfather Michael O'Hara due to his wife Rosa Caragher(sp) coming to the US in 1871 with no spouse and a 16,14,12,and 10 year olds. The eldest of which was my GGrandfather Michael. Rosa originally sent Michael and Patrick over when they were 15 and 11. She followed with Catherine( 14) and a Mattie Mulligan(sp)(2) who lived with the O'Hara's until she married.I do not know what happened to Michael (b.1810). They supposedly came from Sligo.

Michael O'Hara born abt 1791

I'm searching for descendants of my great-great-grandfather Michael O'Hara. My great-great-grandmother was his third wife, and I'd love to locate any descendants from his first two wives. Unfortunately, I have no information on these prior marriages. His third wife was named Mary and she was about 43 years his junior. They had two children, Ellen "Nellie", and Catherine. They lived in Pittston, PA during their marriage in the late 1880s. He was born in Ireland sometime in the early 1790s, and died in Pittston on 2/1/1889 at the age of 99. His obituary unfortunately made no mention of family members. If anyone thinks they might be connected, I'd love to hear from you!

Good to hear from you Megan. Glad Bill and you have been in touch. I've been trying to help him with the O'Hara's?O'Hares though your great grandfather, whom I have childhood memories of from the family wakes of years ago, was of course only related to me through marriage. However, I've lived in Ireland and am extremely familiar with the country and with family research so perhaps I'll help him find something. It would be helpful to know which is original O'Hare or O'Hara - to the Hickey family the belief was that O'Hare was the original name.

Likewise I can be contacted at erstewart@gmail.com Where do you live upstate?
Descendants of Felix Joseph O'Hara

Generation No. 1

1. FELIX JOSEPH1 O'HARA was born March 18, 1794 in County Sligo, Ireland, and died October 21, 1873 in Olyphant, PA. He married NORA DURKIN. She was born 1795, and died 1837.

Notes for FELIX JOSEPH O'HARA:
FELIX1 O'HARA was born March 18, 1794 in County Sligo, Ireland, and died
October 21, 1873 in Olyphant, PA.

His birth date is listed in a family bible as March 18, 1790, but the
caption on the picture listed below dates his birth as 1794. The 1794
date is consistent with the age (57) given to the census enumerator in
September 1850 when he lived in Blakely Twp. PA. In the 1850 census he
was living next door to his newly wed son Felix and his wife Ann. At his
residence was (#1583 and family1593) was Michael O'Hara, 26;wife Ellen,
22 (both born in Ireland); and children Bridget, 2; and Mary Ann. They
also had a boarder, Patrick Busch, 23, born in Ireland.

A picture of the senior Felix was contributed by Cecilia Philbin who
found it in an old family album and made copies. She knew he was related
to the Eagen family because "I'd heard about the visits Mrs. Eagen made
to my grandmother, walking to Olyphant, stopping over there, and
continuing to Archbald." The picture also lists his birthplace as County
Sligo.

His date of death is taken from the family bible last maintained by his
grand daughter Margaret Eagen.

In the 1860 census, Felix O'Hara, 67, is listed in Archbald, Blakely
Township with the family of Richard and Hanora McHale; no relationship is
given but it is likely that Hanora may be a daughter. They are family
2065.

According to a report from the GRSNP, the 'Daily Times' states he was
buried in Olyphant.

Children of FELIX O'HARA and NORA DURKIN are:
2.	i.	MICHAEL2 O'HARA, b. 1824.
3.	ii.	NORA O'HARA, b. 1825.
4.	iii.	FELIX JOSEPH O'HARA II, b. September 03, 1826, County Sligo, Ireland; d. June 11, 1886, Scranton, PA.
5.	iv.	BRIDGET O'HARA, b. 1828.
v.	BRINE O'HARA, b. 1834; d. 1879.

Generation No. 2

2. MICHAEL2 O'HARA (FELIX JOSEPH1) was born 1824. He married ELLEN O'HARA. She was born 1826.

Notes for MICHAEL O'HARA:
. MICHAEL2 O'HARA (FELIX1) was born Abt. 1824 in County Sligo, Ireland.
He married ELLEN [O'HARA].

Notes for MICHAEL O'HARA:
In the 1850 census they were living in Blakely Township,
Lackawanna/Luzerne Co. PA at residence1581 as family 1593. Living with
them was Felix O'Hara age 57. Right next door was Felix and Ann O'Hara
ages 24 and 20.

Children of MICHAEL O'HARA and ELLEN O'HARA are:
i.	BRIDGET3 O'HARA, b. 1848.
ii.	MARY ANN O'HARA, b. 1849.

3. NORA2 O'HARA (FELIX JOSEPH1) was born 1825. She married JOSEPH JORDAN. He was born 1824.

Children of NORA O'HARA and JOSEPH JORDAN are:
6.	i.	JOSEPH PATRICK3 JORDAN, b. 1846; d. 1893.
ii.	FELIX JORDAN, b. 1848; d. 1874.
7.	iii.	JAMES JOHN JORDAN, b. 1865.

4. FELIX JOSEPH2 O'HARA II (FELIX JOSEPH1) was born September 03, 1826 in County Sligo, Ireland, and died June 11, 1886 in Scranton, PA. He married ANN O'NEIL. She was born 1830 in Ireland, and died 1899 in Scranton, PA.

Notes for FELIX JOSEPH O'HARA II:
. FELIX2 O'HARA II (FELIX1) was born September 03, 1826 in County Sligo,
Ireland, and died June 11, 1886 in Minooka, PA. He married ANN O'NEILL.

Notes for FELIX O'HARA II:
Felix O'Hara arrived in this country from Ireland in December 1848. A
search of the immigration ship records for the Port of New York for
December 1848 has only one matching name, that is listed as Felix
O'Harry, laborer, age 20, who arrived on the Bark Sarah Bridge on the
15th of December. The ship had sailed from Liverpool with approximately
218 passengers. It is noted that he carried one box. The vessel is
recorded as #1367 at the Archives. He apparently was traveling alone.
It is not known if he was married to Ann O'Neill O'Hara at the time he
arrived but no record of their marriage was detected in the Dublin
Marriage Record index for 1848 nor 1849 for all Ireland. This check was
made at the Kensington LDS library and it may be presumed that they were
married shortly after his arrival. There were several Ann O'Neill's but
nothing that was definitive. Interestingly an Ann O'Neill arrived in New
York in that same month on the 11th, just four days earlier. She was
listed as 17 years old and a spinster, which makes her a likely 'Ann'
because of age and proximity. She may have been travelling alone
although a 20 year old Berman O'Neill, laborer, is also at another point
on the manifest. The ship was the Harrisburg out of Belfast and is
listed as vessel #1347.

In the 1850 census records for Blakely Township which was then a part of
Luzerne Co. PA, there is a listing for Phelix O'Hara, age 24, and his
wife Ann, then 20. They were listed separately in dwelling 1579 as
family 1541. They had been married within the year and both could read
and write. Both were born in Ireland and he was employed as a laborer.
A second Phelix O'Hara was listed separately right next door at dwelling
1581 as family 1593. He was 57 years old and could read and write. That
is about 3 years different from the age attributed in the family bible
record which state that the elder was born in 1790, but subsequent
information from a picture contributed by Cecilia Philbin, a descendent,
confirms a 1794 birthdate.

In the 1860 census, Phelix, now 33 and Ann 30, are living in Lackawanna
Twp. as of July 13, 1860.  Children are listed as Hannah,9; John, 8;
Michael, 5; Phelix, 4 and Bryan, 2. Phelix is listed as a miner and they
own no real estate. Their personnel property is valued at $100.

There is an entry in the Declarations of intentions book for US
citizenship for Felix O'Hara filed in Carbondale. It is dated October
25th, 1851 and is #80 on page 28 of book 6. It is on County microfilm
roll #23 and is on the Genealogical Research Society of Northeastern
Pennsylvania microfilm roll #38. That record indicates that on October
25th, 1851 that Felix O'Hara went before the Clerk of the City of
Carbondale and in a sworn affidavit stated that he was born in Ireland in
AD 1826 whence he emigrated in the month of December 1848 and declared
his intention to become a citizen of the U.S. The document includes his
written signature, but in the document granting his citizenship. In the
Naturalization Records of Lackawanna Co. Court, (Book #7 which is on film
reel #35 at index 405 for a Felix O'Hara who completed a certificate on
September 18, 1855. His witness was Patrick O'Hara) on September 18,
1855 in the same court an X is placed in the signature block along with
his name and an indication that it is his mark. His endorser was Patrick
O'Hara who was a citizen and declared that he had known Felix for the
last 5 years and that Felix had resided in Pennsylvania for at least the
last year. Patrick's name also surround an X which is indicated as his
mark.

Census records indicate that both the father and grandfather of Hannorah
O'Hara Eagen came to this country. NOTE: In addition there was another
Felix O'Hara with completely different birthdates who may/may not be
related, who appears in the census record for the county. The Book
"Famine Immigrants Arriving NYC, 1846-1851" lists two others: Felix
O'Hara age 16 arrived on April 5, 1849 from Liverpool aboard the Great
Britain with a Jane O'Hara age 30. A Felix O'Harra age 30 arrived on
March 17, 1851 from Liverpool aboard the Empire State. He was
accompanied by Catherine, 30, Mary, 6, Pat, 4, and John, infant.

"The Republican" of Scranton, a weekly newspaper stated on June 16, 1886
that Felix O'Hara had died in Minooka on June 10. That is different by
one day from the family record.

Notes for ANN O'NEIL:
Notes for ANN O'NEILL:
An Ann O'Neil aged 17 arrived in New York City on December 11, 1848
aboard the ship Harrisburg out of Belfast. The ship is #1347 in the
records at the Archives. Also on the vessel is a Bernsen O'Neill age 20
but there is no positive indication that they are related.

The date of death from the St. Joseph's church records is also in the
bible last maintained by her grand daughter Margaret Eagen.

Children of FELIX O'HARA and ANN O'NEIL are:
8.	i.

Nora was my grandmother's (attracta aka hattie) youngest sister. Hattie married John Calvey and they had Mary, Dorothie (Dot) and Margaret (Peggy), who is my mother.

My original post was trying to find relatives in Ireland to visit during a trip we were planning in 2003. We were able to get in touch with and visit with relatives on the Hegarty side who live adjacent to the land where my grandmother was born and my great grandmother raised her 13 children. We visited their house on the adjacent land.

Your godmother is my mothers cousin. I think I met her at my aunt Dot's (dorothy) wake just after we returned from our visit from Ireland.

I regret that I have not pursued our family since our visit to Ireland in 2003...you know how life goes. But, I would be happy to get together to compare notes. It really is a wonderful, although sometimes sad, history our ancestors endured.

Please feel free to contact my email address: mbe96@sbcglobal.net. If you would like to talk or meet, I'll give you my phone number.

Glad to hear from you.
Marilyn

O'Hara and her mother was Christina Keegan. The name Dowling and Graham I remember as a child .. so your family might have been cousins.

Hello Ed :)
Yes, thankfully Bill and I got in touch and I now also have a wealth of information! He told me about you as well. It was amazing to know I had such close relatives right on LI and in the city there. We have chatted through email quite a bit and he has forwarded me lots of information and photos. I imagine he already has the info you speak of? If not I'd be interested in anything else you may have of course, but I assume you have both shared everything already. And yes, my father is Stephen A O'Hara, son of Stephen G. I have also updated Bill with all of my sisters' info and such, so he may be able to easily provide that to you in a chart or whatnot, if not and you are interested just let me know and I will fill you in. You may email me at mrs.meganohara at gmail.com
Thanks for responding, and nice to meet you!

Hi Megan,
Did you ever hear from Bill? I think you're a bit off in the relationship - Bill is a son of Willie O'Hara (O'Hare) and a grandson of Edward and Nora Hickey O'Hara. Bill and I are second cousins and I assume I would be a second cousin to your father who must be a son of one of Bill's uncles, Stephen, Jack, or Danny O'Hara.
I have loads of information on the Hickeys as my grandmother, Julia Hickey Ryan, was a younger sister to Nora (Nonie to her family) Hickey O'Hara or often O'Hare. I still live in NYC and grew up with and remain in touch with all the descendants of Nora'sbrothers and sisters.
Best,
Ed Stewart
Shirley,

I do not have a middle name for John D HARRISON. I only have two references: the marriage record in Autauga County (have not seen the actual document though) and the 1860 Federal Census record for Mobile AL where his occupation is 'Carriage maker.'

I recently ran across some military records on Ancestry which show a John D Harrison from NC of about the same birth year who was enlisted in the army from 1829-1834 and 1834 - ? (two records) but I don't know if this is the same person.

Do you have more info on John D Harrison?

I am also very interested in the Kelly connection. The 1870 census shows the O'Harrow children living in the household of James and Ann Kelly in Tallassee. I have assumed that this Ann is their mother but have never found a marriage record.

In the 1880 census she is listed as a widow and Roxanna and Millie are listed as her daughters.

I hope we can research this further. If you like, contact me on the Ancestry message system and we can continue there or by email.

Jim

His wife, Margaret, is living out in the south suburbs with her son.

Your grandparents, Hattie & John Calvey, were my aunt and uncle.
I'm seeing a lot of familiar names in your post. My parents were James & Helen O'Hara from Aclare. My godmother's name is Mary Hopkings and her mother Nora Knaefsey (?sp) was my mother's sister. My mother's maiden name was also O'Hara so it's hard to tell what side of the family everyone is on. The Hegarty and Calvey names are also very familiar.

John O'Hara 1782-1846 (Ireland-US)

I am looking for information regarding a distant ancestor, John O'Hara, who is though to have immigrated to the US from Ireland. I understand that he was originally from Londonderry. He married Melario (Mildred) Rowland 1784-1856 (daughter of Rev. Rueben Rowland 1743-1807) and they settled in Caldwell County, Kentucky. We believe his father was named James O'Hara (1752-____) and he may have come with John or brought John to the US.
Thanks in advance for any help breaking through the 'immigration wall'.

Does anyone have any information on a Michael O'Hara (b.abt 1825)at possibly Coolaney, Co. Sligo. He married Mary Ann Hughes (dates unknown.) They had 11 children - 10 sons and 1 daughter. Perhaps someone has found it in a search and cant apply it to their tree.

I only know two of the sons names
James O'Hara(b.early 1840's) and
Michael O'Hara (1847 - 1923) - married Lucy Hart in Calry Sligo 1871. (Lucy Hart had at least 2 sisters in the USA prior to the marriage in 1871, and is the daughter of James Harte & Lucy Moore from Galway).

Their daughter, first name unknown, married a Mr. Mulrooney, from Sligo and lived at Ransboro, Knocknarea, Sligo at some stage.

We know that at least one, possibly James/John went to Australia.??

Anybody with any suggestions....would appreciate it, or info please!!

Hey Elieen,

MIssed a few months there but I finally found my way back here and have made several posts about the O'Haras and the Co. Sligo connection in or about Kilmactigue -- I see from your former post you had a certificate from some O'Hara in Kilmactigue -- can you scan it and email or post it?? I can add it and see if anything comes up --
Building a website so all of us with ancestors from the Kilmactigue can have a place to gather data (other than chats here where they want you to join for $$)

www.triptoireland.net

just started it so it will take sometime to build and post the databases, but till then, hopefully we can chase down your information to see if we have a common ancestor.

Please let me know by posting here (and update your email in the account info).

Murph_

P Dezinno is my cousin's daughter. Her grandmother and my mother were sisters. They were the Murphys in Upper Kilmactigue, just below Monalea. My grandmother was an O'Hara from up the road in Monalea, just before the entrance to the turf bog. There was a large O'Hara wedding at Our Lady of the Rosary last summer. I was there in June 2008 and stayed in Upper Kilmactigue. Let me know who your are.

Hi Jim, I am writing in regards to your posting of April, 2008 for O'Hara, Harrison, Bird and other surnames, some from Coosa County, Alabama. My family has connections with Harrison, Bird, and Kelly also in Coosa County, Alabama. Your John D. Harrison is of particular interest to me. Do you possibly have a middle name for John. Would love to talk further with you . Shirley Roach King

Hi Jim, Thanks for answering so soon. I would like to talk further with you. Am not familiar with the link you mentioned but you can contact me by email. I do have a John Harrison but am not sure the middle initial is D but do suspect that there is a good possibility that it is. The Kelly name seems to be associated with the Harrisons and also with my Morris line which is also in Coosa County, Alabama. My Harrisons were first in Virginia, then to North Carolina, then to Georgia, on to Alabama. The Bird family is associated with my Harrison and Pates in both Georgia and Alabama that I know of, and I believe also Arkansas. Some of these families went on to Arkansas. You can contact me at BlackOtterK@aol.com. Thanks, Shirley
