BUTLER: Dwight W. O'Hearn, 89, of Butler, Ohio passed away Wednesday evening August 8, 2012 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

The second son of Ira and Etha (Freehafer) O'Hearn, Dwight was born on the family farm east of Butler on January 27, 1923. His grandparents were Michael and Ida (Hazlett) O'Hearn and John and Elizabeth (Remy) Freehafer of the Butler area.
Dwight's great grandparents James and Johanna (Brodrick) O'Hearn came from Limerick, Ireland in 1850.

Dwight's elementary education was in a rural one-room school house. He graduated from Butler High School in 1940 as class valedictorian and also attained four years of perfect attendance.

He attended churches in Butler, Bellville, Mt. Vernon, and Loudonville, Ohio.
For many years he attended the Clear Fork Presbyterian Church (Bunker Hill) where he served as Sunday school treasurer, superintendent, church trustee, and ruling elder.
Living on the farm, which had been in the family since 1833, this was Dwight's home since birth. He operated it as a general grain and livestock farm for many years before taking a position in the Treasurer's office for Clear Fork Valley Schools in 1962. Dwight worked for 26 years until retiring in 1988.

Positions of service to the community included member of the Butler Board of Education, Director of the Butler Elevator CoOp, member of the Worthington Township Volunteer Fire Department, Secretary of Bunker Hill Cemetery Association for approximately 25 years, and member of the Richland County Farm Bureau for many years.

Surviving are his wife Naomi (McKinney) O'Hearn of Butler whom he married on April 13, 1974; daughter Kathleen (Roger) Company of Plymouth, Ohio; step-son Mark Adkins of Perrysville; step daughter Deborah (Tim) Sparks of Jacksonville, Florida; two step grandchildren Dustin (Tricia) Sparks of Jacksonville, Florida, Nicole (Dr. David) Greenfield of Savannah, Georgia; one step great grandson Kellan Greenfield of Savannah, Georgia.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Archie in 1942, and first wife Marjorie (Snyder) O'Hearn in 1971.

The family will receive friends Monday, August 13, 2012 from 2-3 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where his funeral will begin at 3 p.m. Pastor Jeff Gray will officiate and burial will follow in Bunker Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Butler Nutrition Center (Meals on Wheels) or Hospice of North Central Ohio may be made through the funeral home.
