I haven't done much research on this line since I found Matilda Older and her husband John W. Howard and their family. I'm descended from their daughter Carrie Ella Howard (aka Ella C. Howard) my great, great grandmother. I just checked my database and somehow I have Samuel as William's father. Samuel is his brother? Who was William and Samuel's father? I have Harriett married to Alonzo Judson on Feb 11 1847 in Nelsonville, OH. They had 13 children from 1847 to 1867 in OH. Harriett's sister Mary Ann married John Burberry. Please tell me where you found that Mary was married to Alonzo.

contains the following references to David W. Older

Page 208 Sat., Oct. 14, 1826 “The petitions of Moses Cluff….of David Olders….for pardon, were severally taken up, read, and on motion ordered to be dismissed.”

Page 318 Sat., Oct. 18, 1828 “The petition of David W. Older, a convict, confined in the State prison, was called up. Whereupon, on motion, it was Ordered that said petition be dismissed.”

Page 364 Tues., Oct. 20, 1829 “The petitions of George Johnson, of David Older, and of Moses Clough, convicts in the State prison, were taken up and severally Ordered to be dismissed.”

Page 415 Fri., Oct. 29, 1830 “The petitions of Lavinia Bachelder….David Older…., convicts in the State prison, were, severally, taken up and Ordered to be dismissed.”

My GGGGrandfather David W. Older was born about 1791 in Warren County, NY, and died after 10/19/1850 in Warren County but did live in Vermont for a period of time. Does anyone have any information as to whether this is the same David W. Older or why he was a convict in the State prison?

Hello-I have come to this board, because, like everyone else, I have a story! It is a typical story of an adopted child looking for answers. However, I never wanted to be, nor was I ever a typical adopted child. I grew up in a great family, with two sisters, parents that were married for 50 years. They gave us all, all the love, caring and understanding we ever needed. We weren't wealthy, but never went without. We all learned respect for hard work and the importance of education. And are to this day, thankful, that someone, we have never known, had the courage to realize a bad situation, and put us in one, where at least, we had a chance. What we would do with that chance was up to us. I would like them to know, they have my thanks, my respect, and deep appreciation, for having done what they did. I've never once doubted they thought they were doing the right thing. My parents, instilled that in all three of their adopted children. However, I cannot tell my biological parents anything, because I know almost nothing about them. However, I am thinking, may be one of you know me! I was born in the Village of Albion, Town of Albion, County of Orleans, State of New York, on Sept 26th, 1958. I was a single male birth, and my name was Jeffrey Lee Older. I had a half-sister, born there also, on 1-28-57, named Rita (Gail) Older. We were placed in foster care/adoption in Catt. Co. and placed around July 13th, 1959. Does anyone know me? Matilda Older is the sister to my 2nd great grandfather. Her father was Wm Older and was born in England. I believe he has a brother Thomas Older (around Lancaster Oh) both born in the same place in england. Wm Older remarried. I have some info on the rest of the brothers and sisters. Older's in NE Ohio

My father's family pretty much all lives in the Akron, Ohio area. One of my cousins while doing a geneology report for school found that we are from England and use to go by the last name of Holder. I was just wondering if anyone knows any of the Older's in Ohio or anything about the branches from England. I'm rather interested, but I have not talked to my father or anyone in his family for a very long time (years), so I was just curious.

Hi, saw your inquiry on the Older Family name. I'm looking for the family of Charles Lewis Older, m. Ellen Elizabeth Scott in Wooster Co.OH in 1859. They had several children. One son Edward m. CORA-?. His brother Rollo Older m. Jesse and had a daughter, Dorothy. Edward and CORA-? lived in Montana abt 1920 and Edward may have worked for the Forest Service along with Rollo,who was a Forest Ranger. They both may have been born in Ohio. Thanks for responding again. I've been searching and searching and searching and I know one day I will find John, Matilda and Carrie Ella -- I'm determined to find them. Right now the only connection I see with John and Matilda is the fact that my grandfather Charles "William" Montgomery was listed with them in the 1910 Ohio census in Circleville, Ohio. He and his sisters were all born there. Carrie Ella and her first husband (Charles William Montgomery, Sr.) divorced and she was remarried by 1910 and took my great aunts with her and left 17 year old William behind with John and Matilda Howard. She remarried to George Jacobs and was living in Columbus, Ohio (per 1910, 1920 & 1930 census records). She's listed in the 1910 to 1930 census records as "Ella" and I think she was also listed in the 1900 records the same way (I'll have to check my documents). On my great aunt's social security application she is listed as "Carrie Ella". Thanks for giving my brain a nudge! Don't know why I didn't think to search for a death certificate for "Ella Jacobs"! I guess I just wanted to see her listed in the census records with her entire Howard family.

Thanks so much for responding to my query about Matilda Older. I found John and Matilda Howard in the 1910 Ohio census (Circleville) and my grandfather Charles William Montgomery (listed as William - grandson) was living with them. I've been trying to find John and Matilda in the 1880 census but have had no luck. I'm trying to verify that John W. Howard and Matilda Older are the parents of Carrie Ella Howard who was born in Ohio July, 1875. Carrie is the mother of William Montgomery. I also found John and Matilda in the 1900 Circleville Ohio census with a son George who was born in Ohio Nov., 1880. The ages and birthyears match what the 1910 census indicates so I'm pretty sure this is Carrie Ella's parents. The 1900 census indicates that Matilda's father was born in England and her mother in Ohio. John's parents are listed as being born in Ireland. Guess I'll just have to look at every census page in the 1880 census for Circleville to see if I can find John, Matilda and Carrie all listed together. Again, thanks so much for this information.

I have been unable to make a direct connection with Matilda Older to date. I have seen reference to a marriage record for John Howard and Matilda Older, married about 1872 in Circleville, Ohio. In the 1910 Ohio census I found my grandfather William Montgomery (full name is Charles William Montgomery), aged 17, living with John and Matilda Howard in Circleville, Ohio (Pickaway County) and he's listed as grandson (however, if I search for John Howard in the 1910 census - William is listed as step-son). William's mother is Carrie Ella Howard but I have not been able to find her listed with a John and Matilda Howard in census records before 1900 nor have I been able to locate a birth record for her to confirm if Matilda Older is, in fact, her mother. Carrie married Charles William Montgomery, Sr. and the 1900 Circleville, Ohio census states her birthdate as July, 1875 but in later census years she changes her age so I'm not exactly sure when she was born. I tried the Pickaway Historical Society but they have not been able to find documents pertaining to Carrie's birth. If you can shed any light on this you can e-mail me at "mim71747@aol.com". Eva Elizabeth "Lizzie" OLDER

Seeking any information on Eva Elizabeth "Lizzie" OLDER.
Family story is that Eva Elizabeth was an immigrant girl, orphaned at sea as an infant when both of her parents took sick and died. Her parents were migrating from Prussia to America. Eva was adopted by an Uncle but as a teen she ran away from home for unknown reasons and married Jeremiah Marr McCormick. At the time of the marriage, Jeremiah was a paroled Confederate soldier gong home at the end of the Civil War. The marriage took place in McComb, McDonough County, Illinois on June 12, 1866. On the marriage certificate, her name is given as 'Miss Elizabeth Older is over the age of eighteen.'
On the 1880 Arkansas Census, Eva is shown as "Lizzie" with husband Jerry McCormick and children. Place of birth is shown as, Illinois and parents being born in Prussia. On the 1900 Census for the Indian Territory, Choctaw Nation taken on June 21, 1900, Eva's place of birth is shown as, "at sea" with parents being born in Germany.
On the death certificates for Eva's son, Thomas, the mothers maiden name is ALDERSON, on her daughters, Della, it is listed as COLLIER and on another daughters, Mary, the name is OLLISON.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Matilda R. Older was born about 1853 in Ohio. She married John W. Howard 2 Aug 1872 in Pickaway Co., OH.
Matilda was the daughter of WIlliam & Nancy Older. At the time of the 1860 census William Older resided in Circleville, OH the children still present in the household were George, Mary S, Matilda R. and Charles M.

the mother, Nancy, died before 1866 and William remarried 23 Oct 1866 to Mrs. Mariah (Knight) Mills.

her father WIlliam Older was born in England about 1812 and immigrated to the U.S. about 1832

By all means you should look for the family in the 1880 census. Handwriting from the original might have been incorrectly translated and so not indexed properly. I did a search on the LDS computerized 1880 census and found no references to John, Matilda, and Carrie Howard in the Ohio census. You could do the same by going to www.familysearch.com and trying various alternate spellings.

Did Carrie's death certificate list her parents?

I am descended from Jonathan who had the following three sons--Theodorus, David W., and William. Theodorus had eight children, one of which was Edwin L. Olden who had a son named Esmond Lorenzo Olden who married Amy M. Parks. Esmond and May are my third great grandparents. I have photos of them and their family, as well as some newspaper clippings. Karen, Got your message on the Olders from WV. The first Older is Quindora Frances Older who was the dau. of Edward Older m. to Susanna Catherine Aultz. (I have a lot of info on this line also.) Edward was from England and was the son of Edward B. Older and Mary Ann Bird, next is Edward Older m. to Frances Waters then on to Edward Older Sr. m. to an Elizabeth .
