Since my last posting I was able to determine that this Louis was not the same person I was searching, although this is great information that you responded with. I appreciate your help. Perhaps one day you'll will be able to find who exactly the parents are. I will certainly pass this along to the Olena descendant that will be very interested. Thank you the details on the family.

Re: Lewis Olena - Burr Oak, Jewell, Kansas

Louis Olena, my great great grandfather, was born sometime between 1800-1815 and died 05 April 1904 in Burr Oak, Jewell, Kansas. He is buried in St. Elizabeth's Cemetery, Esbon, Jewell, Kansas.

I cannot confirm who my great-great grandfather's parents were. It is possible that he may be the same person as Louis OLIGNY dit LAUVERGNAT, baptised 16 Jan 1807, St-Luc, St-Jean Co., QC - St. Luc's Church, son of Louis & Josephe TREMBLAY. This Louis was married to Sophie LECUYER in 1829; and to Louise BRAULT in 1831. It is unknown at this time whether there were children from these marriages.

Or he could be this person: "The 3 June 1810 birth record of Louis Oligny to Louis Oligny and Josephte Trembley is found in parish registers of Sainte-Marguerite-de-Blaifindie, Lacadie, Province Quebec, Canada (LDS Microfilm #1031783). http://genforum.genealogy.com/oligny/messages/19.html

More research is needed to clear up the confusion.

From the marriage of Louis Olena & Matilda/Domathilde Borland/Berland, date and location unknown, there were six children who survived to adulthood:

(1) Louis, born 23 August 1847 in New York, and died 02 October 1924. He is buried in the Catholic Cemetery, St. Anne, Kankakee, Ilinois. He married Amelia/ Emilie Durand on 01 January 1871 in LaSalle County, Illinois.

(2) Henriette "Hattie", born 08 December 1848 in Quebec, married Edward Bunker on 12 April 1868 in Iroquois County, IL. She died 02 June 1927 and is buried in Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Jewell, Kansas.

(3) Josephine, my great grandmother, born 06 October 1851, probably in Quebec, married to Louis BERNARD on 06 November 1869 in L'Erable, Iroquois, Illinois. She died 13 January 1925 in Burr Oak, Jewell, Kansas, and is buried in Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Jewell, Kansas.

(4) Mary was born 01 February 1855, reportedly in Aurora, Illinois. She married Lucius A. "Lucien" Patnode on 08 January 1872 in Iroquois County, Illinois. She died 11 March 1943 in Burr Oak, Jewell, Kansas, and is buried in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Esbon, Jewell, Kansas.

(5) Joseph Olena was born 05 May 1859 or 1861 in Iroquois or Kankakee County, Illinois. He married Cordelia Grace "Dillie" Hill on 16 March 1884 in Burr Oak, Jewell, Kansas. He died 08 April 1943 near Burr Oak, Jewell, Kansas and is buried in Baker Cemetery, rural Burr Oak, Kansas.

(6) Emily/Amelie/Emma Olena was born 13 January 1867 in Kankakee County, Illinois. She married Timothy "Mutt" DeTour/DuTour on 20 November 1882 in Guide Rock, Webster, Nebraska. She died 13 May 1952 in Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska, and is probably buried in Guide Rock Cemetery, Guide Rock, Webster, Nebraska.

Noticed an earler post which explains the name of Louis Oligney in the 1860 census.

St. John's the Baptist Church in L'Erable, Illinois
30 March 1872 Domitilla Borland, wife of Louis Auvergnot-Oligney of L'Erable by Father Clement.

This Louis is sometime referred in the message board as Joseph. Perhaps he was baptised Joseph Louis Auvergnot/Oligney...

Lewis Olena - Burr Oaks, Jewell, Kansas

1860 Census - Ashkum, Iroquis County, Illinois
Louis Olegeny, 50 b. Canada farmer
Dom...35, cannot make out her name
Louis 14, b. NY
Henrietta, 12 b. Canada
Josephine, 9 b. Canada
Mary, 5, Illinois
_____, 21, butcher

Believe this is a second wife, perhaps.
Wondering if this might be the same Lewis Olina, in the 1850 census of Grand Isle, Vermont. Listed in the family I believe is a nephew Theophilus who went to NYC.

The Lewis listed above I'm trying to determine if he was Albert L. Olena, enlisted VT civil war, died in Pine, Minnesota.

Illinois State Archives:

Henrietta Oligny m. Edward Bunker on 4/12/1868 Iroquois, Illinois
Marie Avergnot dit Oligney m. Lucien Patenaude Patenaude 1/1/1871
Josephine Auvergnot dit Oligney m Louis Bunker 4/12/1868
Harriet "Henrieta" Oligny/Oleny m. Edward Bunker 4/12/1868

By 1880 this family was living in Burr Oak, Jewell, Kansas.

Researching for a friend who is an Olena descendant of Troy, N.Y. Would any one know where and when Lewis Olena b. 1815 died and is buried. Trying to determine if his father is Francois Auvergne dit Oligney/Olena & Ellen Dandurand. Thank you.
I am searching for someone who can help me to locate my great-great-grandmother, Mary/Mariette Olena/Oligny. She married my great-great-grandfather, Asa John Dibble about 1860, in Ashtabula Co, OH. Asa Sr enlisted in the Civil War 5 August 1862 in Company C, 29th Infantry Ohio Regiment. Mary gave birth to their son, Asa John Jr, 2 September 1863. I have no idea where this Olena family lived, but assume it to have been in Ashtabula Co, or nearby. They may have moved to IL at some point, prior to 1895. Mary supposedly died in childbirth, or shortly thereafter, and the baby was raised by her family. If you know anything about the Olena/Olen family I am looking for, please contact me via this list or at my email address: badibella@Hotmail.com Thank you, Bonnie

Have just finished reading the exchange of info between Cockroft and Nelda re: Olena marriage to a Matilda B. There are several major Barland families currently being researched at this time. One of those families came to the US from Canada and is being worked by a John Gautier. Another is the Barland families that are associated with Mississippi - the ones I have been researching for about 20 years. The two are not connected that we know of. If you are certain the Matilda Borland is not Matilda BARLAND, I can scratch her from my uncertain file. A Matilda Barland, a descendant of the Mississippi Barlands did move to Illinois with other members of her immediate family and died there. Would appreciate you comment.
