Do you know any names? There's a narrow line of Oligney that originate in Michigan (from eastern Canada). No connection has yet been made to those in Wisconsin.

Here's a link to some of my data that will give you a quick Summary of the Michigan line.

http://www.bluewolverine.com/genealogy/genealogy.php?op=desc...
Hi, Yes we lived (and I am back here) near Honor. I am back on the family farm in Bear Lake MI. Where are you now? My Mom and Dad are Rowena and Donald C. Oligney. My sister is Joy Ellen and brother Hoy C. Oligney. I am 48 years old now and married. All of my children are grown. I have been trying to piece together the Oligney history. My Grandparents are Eva May and Ernest Oligney. So our Grandparents were Brothers, Ernest and I think Howard, right?

I am looking for the parents (or any info!) of/on Marie Helene Oligny, aka Helene Olignz, aka Mary Ellen Olena. She was born about 1825/1828? I do know that she was related to Mayor Olena of Brooklyn. She married Stanilas Toupin who died in 1892. (She also had a daughter named Ellen Toupin) Both Stanislas and Helen's names are on the gravestone in St Jeans Brunswick, NY, but there are no dates for her. She was living in Green Island, NY with her daughter Henrietta DeCelle Rabbett when she died. I would love to know when she was married, died, etc...

My Great-Grandfather is Michael L. Oligney born Aug. 21, 1861. And our family also said that there was a realitive that went back to France to collect an inheritance. We may be related. The middle name is different but minor errors can be made. Michael and his wife Mary D. Sweet had 9 children, 1 being my Grandfather, Ernet John Oligney and my father was Donald Clemen Oligney. Maybe we can figure out if they are one in the same.
Thank-you Nena

Dear Shaun;
See my other response to your note after this reference.
Did your grandma Eileen Oryall Bricco recently die? I thought she lived in Oregon or Arizona? She corresponded a number of years ago with my mom with sharing her family info. I think she had mostly girls but I will have to check on my records. I would be happy to share info I have. The line goes back into France and yes the Nolan (Nolin, etc) are connected to this family. We have several generations back and are currently working on the Nolin line. Frank Elias Oryall was the son of Joseph Oryall Jr. and Mary Theresa Del Corps (Del Corte, etc which is Flemish). He was the son of Joseph Oryall Sr. and Maria Emerance Nolin Oryall married 1843 in St. Chrysostome, Chateguay, St. Jean, Quebec. Oryall has a multitude of spellings based on the French and how Americans heard it......Arial, Ariel, Orial, Oreal, Rial, Arielle, Ariail, Oryall, Orio, Oriol,etc......etc....even Yeal and Harial/Hariol because H is silent. Thanks...eliz

Dear Shaun:
I received your message. Yes, the Oryalls' and Nolans' are tied together. You must be from Frank Elias Oryall and Anna Loretta Loftus Oryall family tree. I have some info on that family and also some references to people who are interested in that branch too. The Oryall actually was Ariail in France and has many ways to spell it. Write me, Eliz

Thanks a million Thea for the info.
I will be going to the FHL in Salt Lake City the next two weeks or so and check St. Chrysostome, St. Luc, L'Acadie,
Chambly for possible marriage of Marie Therese and Jean Baptiste Hebert. Some of Ceaser Nolans' family live in nearby Appleton/Little Chute area (Malinda Sophia Nolan Clarke). I have not had contact with them. I will try to see if I can find a marriage for Malinda Hebert in New York for you.
In a notebook/diary was written Marie Emerance Nolin Oryal/Oryall/Oryal/Orial/Oriel/Hariol/Harial/Ariel/Arial and the original spelling Ariail from France made a reference to Necedah or Nec....near Lake Winnebago, Fond Du Lac,
Wisconsin. In her husbands' obituary states about 1867-1869. They also had a son Alfred or Fred Oryall/Oryal die between 1860-1880. We are not sure if it will still be in Fond du Lac or Winnebago county at the present time. Her husband is buried in the Old St. John the Baptist Cemetery at Duck Creek (Howard), Brown, Wisconsin 1901.
Good Luck in your family research too.
Thank you for all the information you provided. Yes this has to be the family I have been searching for. I have a copy of the marriage record in St. John the Evangelist Catholic church marriage book. It was a challenge reading and translating Latin text with French accents but it looks something like this:

Louis Monéta (Ludevieu Monete 19) et Coléna Hebert 25, were married on July 5th, 1857. The parents of Louis were: Dominica ete Emilica Monéta. Celéna's parents: Joannis Baptista et Theresa Hebert. Witnessed by: Theophilus Monet et Benjamin Gibeau

Theophilus Monette is on the 1860 Brown county census and his relationship to Louis has not been determined. I have the lineage for Dominique Monet and his second wife Emilie Lanoue all the way back to the original Francois Monet and Marie Anne Dumas who married abt. 1669 in Canada. John Hebert was impossible to trace and I had no last name for Theresa.

On this Oligney message board I received Therese's last name. Also posted for me (see message from Baker) was the other marriage of Theresa Oligney; your lineage.

Your Nolan and Oryal families were living in the twn of Suamico, Brown Co., Wisconsin in June of 1860.
About the Nichols name that fits in the union of the families of Prosser (1860 census) & Ledger (1860 census) with Monet in my family tree.

I do live in Fond du Lac; if you will allow me a week I will check the cemetery indexes at the library and the Reg. of Deeds to see if I can find some of the records for Marie Therese Oligny's children you have named.
How happy I am that you posted the info on J B and Marie Therese. I believe I can follow Malinda and Mathilda with further info. They eventually ended up in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. Malinda was my gr gr grandmother. She may have married in the state of New York about 1855 and had one son, then was probably widowed because she married in 1857 in Brown County, Wisconsin and had two more children. The family moved to Fond du Lac County and her husband died [unknown where or how] She then married again to Peter Bellanger aka Peter Baker and had a few more children. How much more do you know about Marie Therese?

John Hebert may have been in Brown County also in 1860 as John Eber and did not seem to have a wife. I need to find the census page you referenced.

Dear Steve,
Jean (John) Baptiste Hebert/Abare/Abaire/Abair/Ebert I beleive married Marie Therese Oligny 2nd. She was the widow of Ignace Nolin. Ignace and Marie Therese daughter Marie Emerance Nolin is my great, greatgrandmother. Ignace and Marie Therese were married in 1813 at St. Luc, St. Jean, Quebec. I suspect she married J.B. after 1827 but probably not until 1840's. They are in Malone, Franklin, New York 1850 census under Abair. We her son Cesar (Claser) and a Malinda and Matilda Abair and some Oliney children. This is a new line for me so I am just beginning.

I would love to have information about Noe Oligny and your clan. I am making it a point to keep all living people off of my site for privacy issues.

Hi, all. Back in February, I started my own site to keep all my French-Canadian genealogy online. It has really grown a lot since then. I have my entire database (except living people) up on the site. I use the great program, phpGedView, for displaying the data. It is really a neat program. I've also added brief biographies of my ancestors. I'm still working on some to be posted later. I recently added a small forums section so that visitors can post questions and start discussions about genealogy in general or specifically on the Oligny/Oligney people.

I really like sharing information as well as doing research for people. I have quite a few CDs of parish records (marriages) for various places in Quebec, and some other misc. CDs of information. I have the Red Drouin on CD as well. If anyone would like some help or an opinion, please stop by the site www.saurette.com and drop me a line. I'd really like to hear for you.

Good luck, everyone, with your respective work.

Steve Rock

I don't want to take this thread too far off course but I'm looking for the birthplace of Mary Nichols father. Mary is also the sister of the Samuel Nichols that Married Lucy.

I know that Samuel and Lucy moved from Canada to Churubusco, NY about 1858. I have a note that Pierre died 23 Sept 1843 in St. Chrysostome but I don't have any idea where Mary died.

On another side note - Mary had a sister by the name of Emelie who married a Francois Leger and eventually moved to Brown County Wisconsin. Emelie died there in 1900 but her and Francois had some children born there before 1880.

I am hoping that if you know where married died I can learn something from her death certificate.

Ted Nichols

John B. Oligny (b abt 1814, Eastern Canada)

John B. Oligny is my 3rd Great Grandfather.

I have only a 4 year history on him. He first shows up in 1859 in Tuscola Co., Michigan probate records selling land in Wells Twp.

He then buys and sells a handful of plots in Tuscola Co. Both in Wells and Dayton Twp. He is listed in the 1860 census in Dayton Twp and is living w/a Lucinda Gillam (widow, dead husband was Rufus Gillam) and her 4 daughters.

in 1861, Lucinda and John have a child (no indication that they married) and the child's name in Michael John Oligney. Lucinda dies in 1863 and in probate records for the custody of her minor children, Michael is list by the surname Gillam and John is not mentioned.

I don't know if John died in Michigan or went back to Canada. Family lore says he went back to France, but I think he was really from Eastern Canada (1860 census says "CE" for John and "CW" for Lucinda and her children). I think somewhere along the line, Michael came to believe that John was from France and listed him as such in censuses he was head of household in.

I was hoping someone might know of a John B. Oligny born around 1814 who bought and sold land and may have spent time in Michigan. (lumber prospector of some sort?)

Thanks

-Bruce Tennant
Actually, I am trying to track the oryall portion if this clan :

My Grandmother was an Oryall, and somewhere along the way they are all intermarried with Nolans -

But I can only get back so far as my Grandmother - and then the whole thing vanishes!

Ken, I am very sorry I didn't answer you. I thought that I had, and it was very impolite of me not to acknowledge your reply. I have learned little more of my ancestress, other than I do NOT know what her heritage is, but think she may have been a Catholic. She is listed on my great-grandfather's marriage license as Maryette Olen, but I've seen it variously listed as Mary Olen, Mary Olena, and Mary Oligney. She lived, I believe, in Illinois, and may have lived in Ohio. I certainly wish I could pin this will-o-the-wisp down, she's driving me up a wall! If you have any little scrap of information I would really appreciate it, be it good, bad or indifferent
