Hi-
My name is Wayne Andrews and my wife is Linda Contreras from Marfa. Her Dad was Manuel Contreras. I am researching the family hsitory and came across Olivas in two areas.
Linda had a cousin Otilia Contreas who married Jose Olivas,Sr.
They had four children: Lucita, Ricardo, Jose (Joe), Imelda and David. Ring any bells???
Manuel Contreras had an Uncle named Ferman Contreras who married Cecilia Salazar. Cecilia had two sons Jose Olivas (1887) and Hilario (1890) which Ferman raised as his own. This family moved to Los Angeles around 1930. Ring any bells???
Regards,
Wayne

I have not seen him since I was 5 years old. His Brother was/is Jesse Sanz. He might also go by Olivas, I'm not sure.

He met my mother, Susana Romero Lopez, who is from a town called Oceano, California in about 1949/50. My grandfather's name was Refugio Lopez.

I hope someone can help me find relatives on my father's side.

Margarita

I am looking for 4 Olivas or Olivias sisters and their Descendents.

They were born in Southern California. Now what we were always told was they were born to Sand Diego mission Indians on the mission, but one being my father's mother and he was born in 1917, I figured it would be the mid to late 1800s in which they were born. My eldest daughter contacted Mission San Diego and they said that they couldn't have been during the time frame she gave them. Because the mission was taken over by US Military and used as a base mid 1800s and the was turned into a school for indian Children in 1880. It is also hard to trace them because my father said that they changed their names to Olivas/Olivias as well as their first names to fit in with society at the time. They asked for more information on them and my daughter emailed them back but has yet to recieve a reply. So here is the information I have on the sisters.

My Grandmother is Elizabeth Olivas/Olivias, Marries a my grandfather who was said to be born on Mission San Gabriel. His birth name is Juan Bautista, but he too changed his name. Robert Santa Cruz is the name he changed to. I don't know birth or marriage years or death. They had six children, 2boys and 4girls. Carl, Robert (My father), Carmalita(Carmen), Margaret, Virginia, Elizabeth(Grace).

Nelly or Nellie Olivias/Olivas I am unsure who she was married to, but she had a son and a daughter her daughter Ramona died somewhere between 1970-1975. Her Son Juan Orozco last known address is somewhere in San Antonio, Tx. I am unsure but I think he married a woman named Catalina. They had two children that I know of a daughter named Sandra and a son named Johnny. Again unsure of any death dates or dates of birth.

Sally Olivias/Olivas she had two children. A son Manuel Dominic Badilla, he died on December 7, 1941. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor, his ship was the USS. Arizona. I found causalty records from WWII and it lists his mother Sally as Mrs. Sally Cush Johnson. I have no idea where this came in but I hope that will be one of the answers I find out. Her daughter was Margert Ann her nickname was sister. Again I am unsure on birth and death dates only one I know for sure would be my Great Cousin Manuel.

Lastly we have Malvina Olivias/Olivas her nickname was Lena. She married a polish man named George Jankowiak. He died sometime during WWII while he was enlisted. They had no children that I am aware of. I search enlistment records but could find nothing on my Great Uncle George. So again no birth or death dates. I even searched Ellis Island records wondering if maybe he was a polish immagrant but that search came up dry.

I am hoping someone out there can shed some like on the mystery of my family. I would like to know where I come from, but is hard with it seeming like my family has such a secretive mysterious past.

By the way, some of the Gomez family were jockies; they were well known for a while until they ended up taking a different route that led them to the big house:)

I am sure we are related and I will tell you why. My grandmother Socorro Gomez's mother married an Ysaguirre and lived by the Tucson Communicty Center. Many of the Ysaguirre family members are Sanchez also.

Please let me know if you are of the same family.

Mr. Olivas, I think possibly we may be related. I am an Ysaguirre on my father's side and we have several Gomez cousins. I have quite a list of relatives. Maybe we could discuss this, let me know. Thank you.

Hello,

Wondering if there is anyone related to my Olivas family out there.

My fathers name is William Olivas b 1940 Alburqurque. He is one of 13 children of Jose Nasario Olivas (b 1901 cuba nm) and Ines Gallegos. They moved to San Jose, Ca in 1945. Jose father was Pilidor Olivas and his mother was Hidela Lucero. Pilidors father was Richard Olivas and his mother was Refugio Morfin. I believe Richard Olivas was from France.

All this info was taken from a handwritten family tree found in a baby book so the accuracy may be off.

Would be cool to one day fill in the blanks!

thanks,

William

Yes Tomi, I believe we are related. Martin Olivas and my grandfather Cornelio Olivas were brothers. Martin was first born to Solome Olivas and Julia Mendoza in 1876 in either Terlingua or Rancho de La Cienega(Presidio County). I have that Martin married Julianna Torres in Shafter on 11 May 1896. I don't have all the children born to Martin and Julianna, just Basilio (1896) Jose (your grandfather) and Leondra (1901). Too much information to relate on these message boards, so if you wish to continue, please E-mail me direct at lfrausto@uswest.net and I will be happy to share what I have on Olivas family.
Damiana Olivas

I am looking for information about Damiana Olivas and Thomas Lujan. They were married (possibly) around 1876 in Santa Rita New Mexico. They had three or four children, Tiburcio Valeriano, Guadalupe, Regina and possibly Maria Philomena. Guadalupe and Regina were given up for adoption to my wife's Great Grandparents ( Victorio Cordova and Carolina Subia) around 1880 in New Mexico. In the 1880 Census the children show up in both households). Around 1900 my wife's ggrandparents died and her grandfather and two siblings were taken in by a lujan family until they were adults. I'm trying to fit some loose ends together in my wife's family.

Regards. Dave Nelson

Pedro Olivas - San Juan Cemeterio, Geronimo, Texas

Today I was "visiting" my great-great-grandmother's grave in Geronimo, Texas, and I tried to get all the legible headstones written down. I found the following:

Pedro Olivas -- 1890 - 1973

Geronimo is a tiny town, close to San Marcos to the north and Seguin to the south. It is in Guadalupe County.

That's all the info I have on Olivas. But if you have questions about the cemetery location, let me know.
