Hello Melissa,
With Springer's will dated as late as 28 Dec 1769, both the Samuel Oliver b. 1662 d. 1719/20 and Jonathan Oliver b. 1699 d. 1733 about whom I wrote were already gone. Obviously the Samuel and Jonathan Jr. Oliver named in the will were a generation or two down. You do have the right Oliver family because the Frazees were my Olivers cousins. My Rev. War Captain Samuel Oliver b. 1732 may have been the Samuel listed in the will. Charlotte Groff
These appear to be the names listed:

Henry Frazee
Timothy Craig
John Olliver Junior
Daniel ?
Philip Porter
Abraham Clark
Samuel Olliver
Jonathan Olliver Junior
Henry Norris

I still don't have all the words figured out and I will have to get someone to proof read it for me, someone who has done early NJ wills etc. I am hoping someone from the NJ list I'm on will do that.

I am asking a favor from the Essex Co board, if everyone would please look at the list of above names and see if any are recognized. The 'Daniel' above appears to have a surname starting with 'T', could be Tenill??? There is the 'T', then 2 or 3 short letters (no tails) and then 1 or 2 tall letters :)

Note all the OLIVER names are sometimes spelled OLLIVER. Nothing is left to any of these names, they are either the previous owners of land that William Springer obtained, or witnesses. Again, the will doesn't mention any children, William leaves everything to his wife and church.
Hello Melissa,
Since I come from Girtrude Oliver d/o Revolutionary War Captain John Oliver (great-grandson of Samuel), I have no idea if any of my male Oliver relatives have had a Y DNA test.
"The Oliver Connection" by David Kendall Martin which appears in GENEALOGIES OF NEW JERSEY FAMILIES, Vol. I, pp. 625-626, lists the children of Samuel and some of his grandchildren. The name Springer does not appear in this article. Samuel's son Jonathan Oliver died at age 34 in 1733 and left a son Samuel b. 1732. Maybe??? Jonathan's wife's maiden name was Springer. Likely she remarried after Jonathan's death, but I don't know her maiden or 2nd married names. The article does say that Samuel's dau. Sarah was the 2nd wife of John Frazee, and Samuel's dau. Mercy was the 2nd wife of Edward Frazee.
If you will email me cgroff@att.net I will send you the list of Samuel's children.
Hello Charlotte,

Can you tell me whether or not an OLIVER from this line has been Y DNA tested yet? You can write me privately if you want. I would like to be able to know if this OLIVER line is related to the same OLIVER line as the one of Margaret and Henrietta OLIVER, sisters who married David SPRINGER and Benjamin SPRINGER, brothers who lived in the Albany NY area in the mid 1700s.

Sure, Tim. If fact I will post it here once it's transcribed, or on the SPRINGER board. Remember it's a SPRINGER will. William and his wife Sarah appear to have not had any children, as no children are listed or grandchildren. William pretty much gives his wife everything to use and then it goes to the church they must have attended.

I am really interested to know though what other documents in the area mention these three surnames together. What I'm trying to find is a connection between this William SPRINGER and who is possibly a related SPRINGER, Dennis, who was an adult by 1701-ish, and in the same location. Dennis is also tied somehow to the Frazee family.

I would also like to find out if this OLIVER/OLLIVER family is related to the OLIVER family who married into a SPRINGER branch that was in early Albany NY. This might help tie the two SPRINGER branches together. It doesn't look like I'm be finding any DNA donors from William's descendents since it doesn't look like there are any.

Would Essex County documents be in Trenton or more likely found somewhere else? Of course online would be great as I live in Nevada :)

My family on both sides were all involved in the whaling business as far back as the 1600's. However, the name at that time was Ollivierre and changed to Oliver at some point in time. Let me look back in my records and I'll get back to you.

Capt. Nathaniel Oliver - Mrs. Martha Hobbs (wed 11-30-1709, Boston)

Seeking information on Nathaniel Oliver, who was born ca 1620-1630. Thomas, Ann(unknown), and children John, Nathaniel, James, Peter, Samuel, Abigail, and Hannah Oliver migrated to Boston in 1632 on the "William and Francis." Nathaniel may be an ancestor, but he actually owned l/2 of Roanoke Island (Remember The Lost Colony?) here in eastern NC. Nathaniel and Mrs. Martha Paige Hobbs (3rd wife) married in 1709; they sold their l/2 interest on Dec. 30, 1719. Need information on Nathaniel's parents and any other data that can corroborate his relocating to eastern NC in the very early 1700s. Can you help? Thank you for any assistance.
Hi Lyn,
Thanks for your reply to my query. It is very much appreciated.
I must admit, you've whetted my appetite over this one.

A search of the IGI offers John 1780 LEAKE, YORKS. ... and a possible marriage in 1767.

Mmmmm ... I need proof ... I need to discover the pointers that lead me back to that entry I think! Not a location I would have expected ... but then genealogy is so full of suprises.

Hope to be in touch later....

Are we 'cousins' of sorts then?

Many thanks

HARRY

OLIVER families 1800+, in Sunderland, County Durham, England

Hi everyone,
a first message here so be gentle with me!

I am a descendant of an OLIVER family resident in Sunderland, County Durham soon after 1800.

William OLIVER married Catherine BROWN 1823 Sunderland.

Their children include:
Margaret Curry Oliver,
Wilson Oliver and
Elizabeth Phillips Oliver.

These unusual 2nd christian names would seem to indicate ties with relating familes by William and/or Catherine. However, attempts to resolve this has eluded me! (very frustrating!!!).

Can anyone help?

Do any of the above appear on your family tree somewhere?

Thanks for taking the time to read this

- HARRY

Hi,

Was your Lewis later in Indiana and is that why you think he's the one living in the Holland household?

Ages can easily vary by a year or 2 in census records, so you may also want to consider this Lewis Oliver too:

1860 Census KY

Oliver Rice 30 abt 1830 Male Kentucky
Oliver Pamelia 30 abt 1830 Female Kentucky
Oliver Lewis 7 abt 1853 Male Kentucky
Oliver Jane 4 abt 1856 Female Kentucky

Hi,

All I have in my gedcom on this John Oliver is this:

from South Carolina Marriages, 1800-1820 on Ancestry
Oliver, Dionysius & Jane Clark, 1 April 1804. Moses Waddell.
Oliver, John & Sarah Harris, 18 Dec 1816. Moses Waddell.
[it is not clear if he was the witness, surety or minister. Although there are a few other Oliver marriages in this "book", these are the only two with Moses Waddell mentioned so I'm guessing they were either related, or in the same place in SC. However, another reference says that John married Sarah in Elbert Co, GA.]

http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=BookList&dbid=480...=
0%3a7858%3a0
Early Settlers of Alabama Part II
1899 (Mrs. Elizabeth Blair Saunders Stubbs)
p. 423 - moved to AL with his brother-in-law Maj. Robt. H. Watkins
had 4 daughters and one son plus 2 children who died young.

I have recorded the son named John Oliver was born in 1830 in Lawrence Co, AL and died in 1897 and married Francis Rebecca Connelly.

I am searching for information on Thomas Matthew Oliver, Jr., son of Thomas Matthew Oliver, Sr. His mother's first name was Mary, who died in childbirth and may have been Native American.
Re: OLIVER''S FROM ENGLAND

I have read with interest the post that indicates the tracing of a family tree for the OLIVER surname to the 1700's. My grandfather was Robert Oliver, who resided in the London area, my father was Frank Oliver, who also was born in London - his mother had nine children. My uncle was called Robert Oliver most cousins had Christian names beginning with R. Would like to learn more about the family tree.

OLIVER FAMILY website has been revised.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rayphill/
PHILLIPS AND CALLAHAN FAMILY LINES IN ARKANSAS, TEXAS & OKLAHOMA
I have revised my website to make it more efficient and user friendly. It includes a large number of records for OLIVER'S and their allied surnames. I have updated the GEDCOM supporting this website on Rootsweb World Connect and have linked individuals from my website directly to this master GEDCOM. I am attaching pictures, census data, copies of source records and other important information to the master individual records using post 'em notes. Users may also add post 'em notes to the master individual records. It is still a work in progress but I believe it will make things less cumbersome. Check it out.
