My name is Martin Nieves. I have researched the Olivera lince quite intensively form Ponce 1930's, to Adjuntas 1840's, to Yauco 1755, to San German and Cabo Rojo early to mid 1700's. One this is for sure. The main branch of these Olivera were not Taino or pardos. I mostly find them in the parish records as "Blancos". There are a few exceptions of a few freed slaves that took up the surname Olivera at first. I am still working on putting together some more lines of Olivera in the early 1700's but there are too few records still available for San German in this time period.

later,

Martin

I found a doctument that states that Condida Olivera's mom was Genoveva Arballo and not Genoveva Dominguez. Genoveva Arballo and Tomas Olivera were parents to Condida Florence Olivera who married Rafael Garcia, and Irene Olivera who married Joe Covarruvias in 1919.

Melaine, get a copy of the 1910, 1920 or 1930 census from the town your husbands parents are from and you will be able to find information. You can buy them or go to your library and see if they have them or your local demoraphic center where you live. Also the local church records or the town demographic center in Guayama. The center in Guayama phone # is 787-864-0202. There you can get his parents birth/death certificate, but you need both last names, father and mothers madian name and date he was born. Give them a call and they will help.

Hi,

My wife Dianne is an Olivera. Her father (Desmond, brother of Lester who has posted to this board) descended from (Harry Richard Olivera, Alfonso Jose, Alfonso Ramon). Any info on these and further ancestors would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Scott

Oliveras of Santa Barbara, CA

Well, the information I posted some months ago regarding my wife's ancestry (see the previous message in the thread) was fairly incorrect. her dad Desmond Olivera is the son of Harry Richard, but his grandfather was Albert Olivera (not Alfonso) and great grandfather was Emedio (not Alfonso Sr.). It pays to go to the vital records, even sources you'd expect to be correct are not always so.

I am trying to get more information on Emedio's ancestry. His death certificate lists his parents as a Juan Olivera and Josefa Ruiz. I believe the mother's name is incorrect, confused with the name of Emedio's mother-in-law (Josepha Ruiz, mother of Maria Antonia Arrellanes). Emedio's mother's name may actually be Maria Antonia Ruiz.

It seems there is at least one tree posted on ancestry for a Juan de Dios Olivera with several more generations of ancestors, and I'd like to see if there is good evidence that Emedio's father was this Juan de Dios Olivera. I've heard from one person (Rachel) who has second hand information suggesting Juan de Dios Olivera and his wife Maria Antonia did indeed have a child named Emedio; does anyone have evidence that documents this? Also, based on other searches I've done I think there might actually be two Juan de Dios Oliveras from the Santa Barbara area, born perhaps 10 years apart. Thus the potential for confusion and the desire to be able to document this lineage based on sound evidence rather than hearsay.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

My father was Ignacio Pacheco Olivera from Barrio padilla, Corozal, Puerto Rico. His father was Antonio Pacheco Olivera and mother was Lina Figueroa (Grandfather Antonio was born out of wedlock); Great-Grandfather was Antonio Olivera y Marrero (dob--1880) who in the 1920 U.S. Census of Padilla, Corozal, was married to Rosa Virella y Diaz (dob--1892). Rosa and Antonio had eight children together: Lina, Rosa, Carmen, Jaunaria, Antonio, Federico, Rosalia, and Petra Luz. My great Grandfather Antonio met my Great Grandmother Petra in a place called Fronton, Ciales. There is conflicting information that they met in Morovis.

That's all I know from my father's side of the family.
