To Patricia Flaherty and all other relatives
I am finishing my book "Love and War in Cuba"
and it dedicates a chapter to James Joseph O'Mailia, in Cuba he was CIA Agent "Pepe" (Joseph is Jose in Spanish, and Pepe is the common knickname for Jose).
The title of the Chapter is "Mr. O’Mailia was a hero"
Mr. O'Mailia was a friend and colleague of my father Leonard Daley and they both taught at St. Georges High School in Havana. Of course O'Mailia also taught at Santo Tomas de Villanueva University in Havana.
He was arrested by the Castro goons a little before the Bay of Pigs Invasion (1961)
He was tortured but he never talked....
When he died the CIA presented his widow with a plaque honoring him for this.
I would like to know everything about him that anybody can remember.... Patricia Flaherty sent me some info years ago and a grandson also named James Joseph O'Mailia sent some more info recently.
An application for additional information has been made to the CIA but they have not provided information yet...
