The spelling of O'Malia was settled upon by the time my husband's grandfather Bartholomew (born Newcastle upon Tyne 1879) married Margaret Cassidy in 1905. Yet, when his father, also Bartholomew (1847), married Jane(1853)- (they are both shown as Irish) somewhere around 1869/70 we are not sure how the name was spelt as on the 1881 census they are all found under the name of Melie. There were several children born to Bartholomew and Jane,
Dorothy (1870), Margaret(1874), Isabella(1877), Patrick(1881) and we think at least another called John George(about 1889) who made up this family on the 1881 census. Is there anyone who has any connection to any of these names as they all seemed to have scattered. We are led to believe that John George went to Brisbane, Australia, but have no idea where the rest of the children went to.

Lori O'Malia
