Cheryl,

Just discoved the .pdf file didn't go through to you because this site doesn't accept.pdf files. There are forty pages in the file. So now I need to see if I can figure out how to convert it to a different form. Sorry about that.

Brenda

I'm a volunteer photographer for this website and many other volunteers have photograped graves for me and posted them to the individals' memorial pages for me. That is a great form of documentation. I am also a volunteer indexer for both
http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#...

(a pilot program for the Morman church) where you can find a lot of Death Certificates that are free. I found the death certificates for the Lewis sons who left Kentucky and moved to Texas. Recently I've started doing the same thing for ancestry.com .

I'm scanning those Omer book pages I mentioned for you and will see if I can get them into some sort of file that I can e-mail to you. If not, then I'll have to use "snail mail."

My aunts didn't mention anything about Thomas maybe being a Jew.

I don't live too far from you; I'm in the middle of the TX Panhandle...Amarillo.

Talk to you later,
Brenda

Hi Brenda,

I have a copy of the "History of Omer, Lewis, Krieal, Knecht, Carr & Schatz Families (February 1970)" from a Rev. Fuqua. Fanny, I believe, was the daughter of Thomas Michael and so there is this history that was written down at some family reunion in 1967. I think you will enjoy reading it.

Thomas Michael had 1 brother (from the history I have) and he died sometime after Thomas Michael did - but I don't think he ever came to America. I have no idea....these people are a hard nut to crack.

Here is where I come from: Carol (my father), Don (my Grandfather), Amos (my g-grandfather), Isaac (my g-g-grandfather) and then I think Peleg (my g-g-g-grandfather)....but, then I have all these brothers that were Isaac's (Levi, John, Richard) hanging around or living right beside William Lewis (the one Lewis child of Thomas Michael that no one seems to know much about). Also too, Richard Lewis spent time in Israel (known at that time as Palestine) and his mother actually died there in the early 1900's. But NO ONE knows her name or any of the above Lewis's parents. It is CRAZY. Did your aunts ever mention anyone being Jewish?? Thomas Michael had a best friend named Gettlieb Heymann from St. Petersburg....he was Jewish.

I go in starts and fits with this project. Sometimes I just have to leave it because it drives me insane with the brick wall. You are the first person that I know who is researching this line. I am seriously considering swabing my brother Shane and sending his DNA in to try to get at least a linage match or a "no known match" to at least weed us out of the other Lewis lines.

Send me your info and I will make a copy for you on Monday and put it in the mail. I am in Kansas....are you close?? :-)

Cheryl :-)

Hello again Cheryl,

I come from the "Daniel" line. Three of my late aunts(Helen, Georgia Mae and Betty Jean)were researching our "Lewis" line. Their efforts ended up with my Aunt Faye. Her health doesn't permit her to continue the research, so she gave what she had to me. I feel most fortunate to be the one who received all of their reseach as I have cousins galore and any of them could've ended up with it. My aunts, Bless their hearts, took it into their heads that we somehow are connected to "the Daniel Boone" and did some research on his family. I've realized that they were mistaken when they took that route to explore, but it makes interesting reading. Aunt Faye is the one who told me that her Grandma Fannie Pope Duncan Lewis (married to Benjamin Franklin Lewis, a son of Daniel Boone Lewis,Sr. and his wife Elizabeth (Eliza) W.D. Henry Lewis...buried in Caseyville, Kentucky)told her that the family thought we had a rich Lewis ancestor from Russia. Ron Omer sent me the part of his and his cousin's book that pertained to Thomas Michael Lewis from Russia. That was years ago. The last time I corresponed with Ron he said that there aren't anymore copies of that book. England was one of the places mentioned in my aunts' research. They think that there may have been several Lewis brothers and that they scattered around Europe. It does get complicated, doesn't it? Of course, the aunts didn't have ancestry.com and the rest of the internet to explore and I'm sure that must have made it pretty difficult to find out as much as they did. If you don't have access to Ron's book on Thomas, I'll be glad to send you copies of what I have. I would also appreciate receiving whatever you care to share with me.

Brenda

Hi Brenda,

Actually, Thomas' family lived in St. Petersburg Russia. I believe his father was involved in the East India Trading Company and was re-located or chose to, locate to St. Petersburg. They were very, very wealthy.

"Thomas was born in 1771 in St. Petersburg. When he was 14 years old, in 1785 he left his home and followed the life of a sailor for eeightenn years or until 1808. After which he went to Louisville, Ky. and engaged in the butchering business, dealing meats, tallow and candies. About 1807 or 1808 he married Elizbeth Omer. They had 4 children: Daniel, William, Henry and Fannie."

I come from somewhere in the William line. I don't know about you, but this Lewis family is totally HARD to figure out. They fit in none of the Lewis families that I have researched. I also think our family is from Jewish background. Do you have any ideas??

I will make a copy of the research papers people have sent me on Thomas Michael Lewis. I have two. I also have various other things that I have come across. What do you have??? And what line are you from??? Daniel?

Cheryl :-)
Hello Cheryl,

I looked at my original message to refresh my memory as to what I'd written...guess what?? I kept referring to Thomas Michael as "Omer" instead of "Lewis" as his surname; except in a place or two. Hope it wasn't too confusing for people who may have read it.

Yes, I'd like very much to correspond with you regarding our "Lewis" line and how we relate to the "Omer" line. One of these days I expect to hear from someone who knows how a "Lewis" ended up in Russia. Was his family in some sort of business that caused them to relocate from somewhere else to Russia?? Was he actually born there or did he just live there?? etc, etc, etc...Let me hear from you.

Brenda

Thomas Michael Omer

By accident, I just now found this Omer/Lewis message board. I am a direct desendant of Thomas Michael Omer and Maria Elizabeth Omer. They had four children: Daniel Boone Lewis (married: Elizabeth W.D. [Eliza] Henry); Henry Michael Lewis (married: Sarah Kelley); Fannie Lewis (married: William Frederick [Fred] Krieal) and William L. Lewis (married: ??).

Daniel Boone Lewis and Eliza Henry had nine children: Mary Agnes (married: Ruffus W.Jeffries); William Henry (I haven't found a spouse for him yet.); Benjamin Franklin [my line] (married: Fannie Pope Duncan sister of Mattie wife of James); Adaline (married: Sidney B.Labe); Mary Ellen (married: Harrison Taylor); John S.C. [Connelly](married: Laura Aston); James W.T.(married Martha Alice [Mattie] Duncan sister of Fannie wife of Benjamin; Daniel Boone, Jr.(married: Ella R. Neal) and Mollie A. (married: David Harrison Neel).

Daniel, Jr.(SW Section, Row 26);Benjamin(NE Section, Row 23); James (SE Section, Row 24) are buried along with their wives in Elm Grove Cemetery, Roddy, Van Zandt County, Texas. My family history states that Connelly is also buried there, but he's not listed in the Van Zandt Co. genealogy society records...and they keep excellent records.

Mollie is buried in Victory Cemetery, Jackson County, Oklahoma.

William is buried in the Caseyville Cemetery, Caseyville, Union Co., Ky as are his parents and his sister, Mary Ellen.

Benjamin Franklin Lewis and Fannie Pope Duncan had nine children: [1] James Henry (Jim)who married Fannie K. Potts. He's buried in the NE Section, Row 9 of Elm Grove Cemetery. [2] Edward Brown (Eddie)who married Jewel Murphy.
[3] Jesse Lee who married Sarah Alpha Risner. They're buried
in the SE Section, Row 1 of Elm Grove.
[4] Marshall Ray [my line] who married Minnie Cordelia (Delia) McGuire. They're buried in the SE Section, Row 33 of Elm Grove.
[5] Cora Mae who married Arnold Vivian (Bibb) Potts.
[6] Ruba B.(son)is buried in Row 8, Field Cemetery, Van Zandt Co., TX.
[7] Bertha Edna is buried in the NE Section, Row 9 of Elm Grove.
[8] Ernest R. married Alma J. Carpenter.
[9] John Irvine married Dora Bettie Neal. He's buried in the NE Section, Row 23 of Elm Grove.

I'm looking for any information related to the Omer/Lewis connection. Does anyone know the names of Thomas Michael Lewis' parents? My Aunt Faye said her Grandma Fannie used to tell her about the Lewis family having a Russian in the family. But Aunt Faye was just a young child at the time and doesn't remember any thing else about Thomas.

Whoops! I forgot to answer your question. I live in Dallas--and work at Southern Methodist University. As you probably know, several of Daniel Lewis' sons (Benjamin and Daniel Boone & *maybe* JWT) left Union County in the 1880-90's and settled in Kaufman County, Texas. This is where my grandmother (Annie Myrtle Lewis) married -- and where my father (Edgar Houston Wade, Jr.) was born. His parents moved to Dallas when he was about 2 years old.

Carolyn

Don,

Would you suggest how I might go about getting a copy of the book re the Omers, as well as a copy of the pamphlet written by Fuqua? I *thought* that I was ordering a microfilm of the book from LDS, but as it turned out it was only a list of the descendants. And, I have searched the internet to find some info on Fuqua to see if I could get a copy of the pamphlet, but I have been unsuccessful.

Any suggestions you can give I would really appreciate!

Thanks.

Carolyn Jeter

I found a reference to it it on the Internet but couldn't find a photo.

I am still waiting for the microfilm of Ron Omer's book to arrive. It should probably be here this week.

Your question about why Thomas Michael and Elizabeth Omer would have gotten married in Southern Indiana is one I've had too.
Hi. Thanks!!! I truly appreciate the info because you have confirmed what I thought was true for over a month. I think I really got lucky by finding that stray email on Thomas Michael. This is really my first time to research a family so, as you can imagine, it has been lots of fun finding the info.

I do want to purchase the book. I'll write Ron Omer at the email address you suggested and if he would like info on Daniel's line I'll be glad to share it. I saw the book on the LDS website so I can also purchase it there.

Do you know how I could purchase a copy of the pamphlet by Fuqua?

Thanks again for your help!!

Carolyn

Because you mentioned that your "Omers" originally came from Germany and settled in Kentucky, I am pretty certain that your line would include Maria Eliza (Elizabeth?) Omer, daughter of Daniel Omer II--a family that settled in Jefferson County, KY.

I am searching for a Thomas Michael Lewis of St. Petersburg, Russia who married a Maria Eliza (Elizabeth) Omer on August 26, 1810 in Clark County, IN. I understand (but cannot verify) that he est. a butchering business in Louisville in 1803 and was murdered en route to Philadephia from Louisivlle. I believe that Thomas Michael Lewis and Maria Omer might be my great great great grandparents, (parents of Daniel Lewis b. in 1810; Henry Michael, b. 1816; William b. 1813; and Fannie b. 1818).

Do you have any information on Maria Omer's husband and family and be able to verify: 1) whether Thomas was her husband; and 2) if so, do you know whether their children included a Daniel Lewis (whose tombstone is in the Caseyville, KY cemetery with his wife Eliza W.D.).

I have been able to trace the Lewis line (my father's mother) back to my great great grandfather Daniel Lewis of Caseyville, Union County, KY, but could not get any further back until I saw some info that I just can't seem to verify about Thomas Michael Lewis and Maria Omer.

Any info that you could give would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Carolyn Jeter
Dallas, TX

Hello

My cousin Ron Omer and Jack Stidham have put together a book about the Omer genealogy.

I think Ron Omer lives on Caseyville Cemetery Rd.

The Lewis and Omer connection is well documented in Ron Omer and Jack Stidham's book. You may want to connect him to order a copy.

As for Rev. Fuqua's history of the Omer and Lewis connection, he writes:

The father of Thomas Michael Lewis was born in England. He was sent to India by the British Government in 1750. . . He amassed considerable money there and returned to England. From there he went to St. Petersburg, Russia were he increased his wealth. Thomas Micheal Lewis was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in about 1771. Thomas Micheal went to sea and after many years he came to Louisville, Ky, and married Elizabeth Omer, daughter of Daniel Omer and Ann Sellinger (Zollinger), in 1803, in southern Indiana (Either Jeffersonville or Clarksville or Utica).

Hello Hello

I received my copy of the Omer book from the co author, who is: Jack Stidham
402 Lee Drive
Morristown, Tn 37814

He sets the price and will let you know if its available.

Jack Stidham and Ron Omer have done a wonderful job of putting this book together. Jack Stidham has turned some of the genealogy work on the Stidhams and the Omers over to his son. Jack Stidham can give you more information on that developement.

The Omers have had several serious family genealogist over the years.

My first experience was with a Mary Slaton of Morganfield. She was any Omer descendant, who lived in Union County, Ky. She used to attend any and all Omer reunions, and wrote a newsletter to the participants.

Another one of my early connections was a lady named Ada Omer Frey. She lived in Illinois, and along with Mary Slaton, spearheaded a lot of Omer research and documentation.

Ada Omer Frey's daughter is in contact with me and lives in Liberty, Illinois. She has carried forward her mother's work. Her address is Ms. Joan Frey, P.0. Box 142, Liberty, Illinois 62347-0142.

Don Dearing, of Louisville, is another serious Omer genealogist, and has written a history of the Omers and related families. His Omer ancestor is a Fannie Omer.

Just last week, I was over at the Filson Historical Society, and noticed that they had a copy of the Fuqua work in their card catalog.
Their address is: The Filson Historical Society
1310 S. Third Street
Louisville, Ky 40208

As to how the Omer and Lewis marriage occured in Utica, Indiana, that is an interesting question.

The distance is not all that far, maybe about 20 miles or less from the Omer/Pound house on Billtown Road, to Utica, Indiana. However, the Ohio River is in between, and I don't know of any routes between the two points.

Will talk with you later.

Don Pfaadt

P. S.
