I am looking for any information on my great grandparents and beyond.
My G.Grandfather is William O'Neill(his father John O'Neill) married Catherine Kavanagh (father Maurice Kavanagh) on 01.02.1872 in Athy, Co. Kildare, Ireland.

They had 6 children:
John b.14.01.1872;
Catherine b. 18.01.1875;
Maurice b. 28.05.1877 d. 16.07.1947 (Clydebank,Scotland); Bridget b. 04.03.1979;
James b. 16.04.1881 d. 1937 in Ireland and
William (my grandfather)b. 21.02.1885, d. 23.01.1953 in Clydebank, Scotland.

The only info I have is that:
Catherine Kavanagh came from Russelstown in Co. Kildare
John O'Neill was a Station Master at Newbridge, Kildare
Catherine O'Neill came over to Glasgow and had a son
Bridget O'Neill possibly moved to Milton Keynes, England
From what I can gather all the males worked on the railways.

If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Pat

O'Neill update
This is an update to a previous post. I have been looking for information regarding my g-grandfather, Patrick O'Neill (or O'Neil or O'Niel at various times), who was born in County Kerry in March, 1856. We believe he was from Cahirciveen, although Moyrick and Tralee are possible as well.

I finally found Patrick's death cetificate (he died April 22, 1916 in New London, Connecticut) at the clerk's office in New London. We always understood that Patrick's father was named Eugene, but legally anyway, his first name was actually John. This was news to my family, but perhaps he was a John Eugene O'Neill? John was married to Mary Foley.

Patrick was one of five known children of John (Eugene) and Mary. Patrick was married to Mary Lehane (b. 1860 in England or Wales---her father was born in Ireland and her mother was born in England or Wales) and they had two daughters in Wales before emigrating to Greenport, Long Island, New York in 1886.

They moved to New London, CT. Their children included Katherine and Margaret (born in Wales), Thomas, Dan, Helen (my grandmother) and Agnes.

The siblings of Patrick that we know of were Daniel, Maria, Michael and John.

Daniel married Ann Murphy, while Maria (Muh-RYE-uh) married Dennis Murphy, Ann's brother, in New London, CT!

Michael Foley O'Neill was born in 1866, emigrated to New Jersey in 1880.

John supposedly married an O'Mara and was buried in India. He either was in the British Army or, another version has it, he got sick on his way to Australia.

If this updated info rings any bells, please let me know!

Best Regards,

Rep. James O'Neill Condon
Colchester, Vermont
vab@together.net

Samuel O'Neill born 1859

Does anyone have a Samuel O'Neill in their family who was born about 1859?
I am looking for any birth/baptismal information (Mainly for his father, who was possibly named James) to confirm his
parents names, as stated on his Death Certificate.
I am his direct decendent and cannot find birth records for him, only what is stated on his Death Certificate and US/State Censuses (from the 1890s to the 1930s).
I have also verified the movement of his family from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and
Washington State.
Sam's son (my grandfather) was Catholic, so I am assuming that he was also.
Because I am living in Europe, I obviously cannot look up parish records for the Buffalo, NY area circa 1859. How I wish that those records were on the internet!

His Death Certificate states:
Samuel O'Neil
DOB: 16.Aug.1859 -Buffalo, New York
DOD: 13.June.1935 - Orchards, Clark, Washington

Wife and Death Certificate informant: Catherine Ward

Parents: James O'Neil + Mary Atkinson

No middle names are given.

I would like to know who Sam's father was and how old he was when Samuel was born.
It would be nice to now if Samuel had any siblings.

Do these people sound familiar to anyone?
If so, please, write to me.

oneill.gerald@gmx.at

Best regards,
Gerald O'Neill

Martin family from Newtown Ards, Co. Down, Ireland

I'm trying to trace the parents and siblings of John Martin b. 1848 in Newtown Ards, Co. Down. John married Rose Marian Goyder in 1874 in York, and in the Yorkshire Gazette of the time his father is listed as Robert Martin, Gentleman, of Sydenham. No mother is given.

In the 1881 Census, John is living with Rose in York, and also present is his sister, Sarah C.B. O'Neill Martin, aged 24 and unmarried, born in Ireland (about 1857). I cannot find Sarah in the 1891 Census, and no likely marriages are showing up.

Does anyone know anything of this family? Was the mother's name likely to be O'Neill?

John was a physician and surgeon, and had moved to London by 1891. He called his eldest son John Ranald Martin. There is a family story that the family is related to the Scottish clan McDonald of Clan Ranald (from the Isle of Skye). Does this ring any bells?

Any help appreciated.
Mary Ann O'Neil Ireland to Quebec/Ontario

Hi, I am not sure if this is the right thread as I don't know if the name is spelled with 1 or 2 l's.
Anyway I am looking for a Mary Ann O'Neil( 1824?) who married in either Wexford or Wicklow(according to the LDS- probably Wicklow).

Thomas PRESTAGE
Marriage(s):
Spouse: Mary O'NEIL
Marriage: 11 Apr 1843
Inch By Gorey, Wexford, Ireland

Batch number: Dates Source Call No. Type Printout Call No. Type
M700711 1726-1730 0973124 Film 0883818 Film
Sheet:
Actual text:
Title Parish register transcripts, the parish registers of Inch, diocese of Glendalough
Contents: Baptisms, marriages and burials, 1726-1756, 1762-1825; baptisms to 1865; marriages, 1827-1845; burials, 1828-1865.
Subjects Ireland, Wicklow, Inch - Church records

Would anyone know this family? Mary Ann and her husband, and a daughter went over to Quebec in 1847 (where the daughter Ellen died on the journey).

She remarried a James Short 2 years later in 1849 in Quebec City. Miles O'Neill and Phillip O'Neill seem to be listed in church documents and those names are in the family so I would guess they are her brothers? Uncles? ( also a James O'Neill who married a Jane Patchell).

Also I have been told that our O'Neil was a/the? Crown Attorney of Dublin at some time. Would anyone know what that entails and how I could find out more information ? Dublin law courts?
Thanks , Kim

Re: Banbridge O'Neills

I have O'Neills in Balleny townland, Dromore, County down - a couple of miles up the road from Banbridge. These O'Neills were also purported to have descended from a Hugh in County Tyrone.

What I know:
Hugh O'Neill (possibly descended from your earlier Hugh) was mostly likely born in Tyrone and married an Anne (Agnes) Sloan. They were probably married about 1820.

The earliest I can place them in Down (all in the townland of Balleny, Parish of Dromore), is in 1823, with the birth of a son, John Henry. They then had the following children(those that I know of):
Charles, born 1825;
Mary Anne, born 1827;
Susan, born 1835.

There is an obvious gap btw Mary Anne and Susan - may have had a child that did not live - but I have no record of any.

I am descended from the Charles born in 1825 and can trace that line from him to me. I have not been able yet to find any descendants of John Henry, Mary Anne, or Susan.

I am related to an O'Neill in Tyrone by DNA testing. He can trace lineage back to a Hugh O'Neill who died in Tyrone at 33 yrs in 1771. I am trying to tack into that lineage. This particular line of O'Neills were evicted from their homes in the early 1800s (1810-1811). May have explained why my later Hugh O'Neill ended up in Down.

Do you see any connection?

Charles O'Neill
O’neill ancestors of Puerto Rico . I was recently doing research of the O’neill’s living in Hato Nuevo in the 1800- 1900’s. My grandfather is Gregorio O’neill Rosario (1895) and My Great Grandfather is Juan O’neill Santa (1866) or (1880). Looking at the different census’ of 1910 -1920 -1930, and seeing the different neighbors that surrounded my relatives I can only assume that all our families are genetically intertwined. Well im really interested in finding information but I have basically been stuck with Juan O’neill Santa, I find absolutely no record of him after the 1920 census, In 1930 his wife, Getomino Rosario Camareno de O’neill was part of the census with only the O’neill children. I found some passenger lists records for a juan O’neill on a ship called the San Lorenzo departing to NY 10/8/1923 but I don’t know if it was him. I found some social security death indexes for a Juan O’neill estimated date of birth as 1866, that to is questionable. Can any provide any information regarding the above O'neills.

I am related to Gladys O'Neill born to William O'Neill and Allie (Alice) Marlowe. He was the son of William O'Neill and Millie Jane (nee Quesinberry (or Cushingberry?)) Napier (widowed), born abt. 1871; and Allie was the daughter of Henry Marlow and Catherine McNaney, born abt. 1873.
I am looking for descendants, and any documentation about these families. There are so many William O'Neills in the records, and I am hoping someone from this family has a family tree that they could share with me that goes back to the roots in the UK, and info about how they got to America. I am interested in all the lines of the families!(William had at least 8 siblings that I know of, incl. brothers George Washington (Wash), Joseph(Joe) and Elijah (Lige), and sisters Effie(or Ettie?) and Ella.) I grew up with Gladys' tales about Ireland, mainly about the "Red Hand."

Thank you very much, Amy in The Netherlands

Samuel O'Neill (all variations) abt 1859-1935

I am trying to make some progress backwards :-) to find some solid information on Samuel O'Neill. His family is listed below. I have found reliable information under the surnames Oneal/O'Neal/O'Neil/O'Neill. O'Neill is merely the standard spelling related directly to myself, but through my research I have learned not to discount other spellings. This is my Great grandfather.
If this family looks familiar to you please contact me.

Regards,
Gerald
gwoneill68@yahoo.de

Samuel O'Neill
Born: 16.Aug.1859
Buffalo, Erie, New York, USA
Died: 13.June.1935
Orchards, Clark, Washington, USA

Wife's Name: Catherine/Katherine/Katie/Kate Ward

Married in Minnesota
Raised a number of children in Glen Flora, Wisconsin.
Finally, moved to Orchards/Vancouver, Washington, where Samuel continued to raise children.
William M O'Neill
1886-?
Samuel E. O'Neill
1887-1963
James Henry O'Neill
1892-1971
Mary C E O'Neill
1894-?
Nellie A R O'Neill
1895-?
Celia
? - ?
Eva M O'Neill
1896-?
Augusta O'Neill
1897-?
Mildred Xavier Genevieve O'Neill
1901-1970
Enid T O'Neill
1905-1994
Francis Arnold O'Neill
1908-1959

Update:
Situation.Normal.All.F.U

Well, at this point I feel I can't rely on all my documentation. And family stories confound my research beyond belief.
Samuel's wife reported, on his Death Certificate, that he was born in Buffalo, New York. The death certificate information is all I have that hints that his parents were named James and Mary. I can't find a James and Mary, with son Samuel, in any census. Besides, it seems that I can only rely on census information until 1900. After that point I can't defintely say who is a relation anymore. And to make things more complicated, my family spells their name O'Neal in the 1910 census, and my greatgrandmother Catherine states that her parents were from Pennsylvania, whereas all other sources say that both Sam and Kate's parents were from Ireland.
So that's the mess I'm facing.
Any hints, however small, would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Gerald
gwoneill68@yahoo.de

I found James and wife Elizabeth who came to the US from Ireland in 1868. Family stories say we have Antrim origins. These are common names but the ages seem right. They apparently first went to Iowa, then to Winchester Kansas. They had two boys on arrival in US, Henry (4) and William C (3) who was my Great Grandfather. I find further records of William C of course, but not of James and Elizabeth - or Henry. Moved on to NZ? Perhaps but thats a major move leaving children behind.

Not sure this helps but thought I would post anyway.

I have not found the Ship yet on which he came to NZ. but he Married & settled & died here. I do have his MC plus the BC's of his Children. I wonder with a name like William ( common enough ! ) he could be a Son of your William ?? My Grandmother always said the Family came from Belfast.
Barbara.

Hello,

I am also doing research on my O'Neill Rodriguez Family and can tell you that there are several others with large public family trees that may have the information you are looking for, Redhand King, for one, has done years of research on the O'Neill Families in PR may be another place to look. He has several posting on this site, one in particular shows all the different O'Neill Families and their connection to the others.

Good Luck in your search. If you like we can compare some names to see if there is a connection, cause I am rather stuck with my research as well. My Great Grandfather's name was Jose Maria O'Neill Reyes married Benedicta Rodriguez Morales de O'Neill. Parents of: Manuel, Jesus, Providencia, Juana, Monserrate (Female) & Pablo O'Neill Rodriguez.
