My maiden name was Oncken, and our family never thought we'd be related to any "Onken" families so we never even questioned it.
Recently, I connected to a man, in Germany, with the last name spelled "Onken"....low behold, we discovered we are relatives! My gggrandfather's
name was HAJO HARMES ONCKEN, b.7 nov 1824 in/near Asel, East Friesland, Germany. He married Wilhelmina Junge, aslo from Germany. He came to the U.S.
around 1960 with a cousin named
HAJO HARMS ONCKEN, about 12 years +/- my gggrandfathers age. They applied for US naturalization in Dane County, Wisconsin in April of 1960. There are
at least 11 persons on our family tree named Hajo Harm(e)s Oncken, except for my gggrandfather...but everything else fits! The man I recently discovered
as a relative, didn't know when the name spelling was changed, or who may have done it. Any info. greatly appreciated.
