Hi Lu Rose,
Thanks for replying! It's great that you are writing a book about the Barrett/Crumley line.
I found the Waters and kindred family book online, only this version is by Philemon Barry Waters. It has been digitized and is available on Google Books, so I have read the pages about the Onslows and the Henry Barrett. I assumed, as you have, that it would require more research to prove the information. Do you know of anyone else who has researched the English Onslows and Barretts? I wouldn't want to reinvent the wheel if someone else already is working on it.
I have lots of information on Walter and Margaret Barrett Courl and their descendants.....I am from Fulton County, Indiana, and that is where Walter and Margaret settled in the mid 1830's, and where they both died (Marg-1841 and Walt-1845). Their children were Henry Onslow,Hannah, Elizabeth, Ann C., and John P.
In the 1880 census, Henry O. Courl was 62 and living in Dwight, Livingston, Illinois with wife Diana and son John H.
I do not have the journal, and your mention of it is the first time I have heard of it. I'll see what I can do to find any Illinois Courl descendants.
FYI- I haven't been working on my family history for several years, and in my absence there have been several family tree entries on Ancestry.com for Walter Courl's family that not correct.
I'll send you all the Crumley info I've gathered via email if you send me your email address, and also when I've dug through my Courl info I'll get that to you, also.
Also.....I found an interesting account in an old book in South Carolina about a Barrett's Store in Columbia, SC in the 1820's. I haven't pursued this yet; have you ever heard of this?
