Hi Deborah:
David Eugene Opdyke would have been my gr-uncle, the eldest son of Andrew Jackson Opdyke & Mahala Ann (Julia) Tyrrell. He was named after his paternal grandfather; his paternal grandmother was Rebecca Ann Dungan. David was born Nov. 11, 1859 in Mason County, Illinois and died Sept. 6, 1918 at McCloud, Siskiyou County, California.
According to a hand-written family history (by one of Andrew Jackson's granddaughters)David & Aurelia had a dairy farm near Dana at the head of Fall River; it was known as the thousand springs farm. David and Aurillia did not have children of their own and adopted Johnnie McCandless. His brother, Paul McCandless, was cared for at the thome of David's sister Lodema and her husband Thomas Ray. They did not formally adopt Paul.
