Joseph P. Opsatnick
Joseph P. Opsatnick, 91, of 615 E. Berner Ave., Hazleton, died Thursday morning at Hazleton General Hospital.
Born in, and a lifelong resident of Hazleton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Suchy) Opsatnick.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton, and United Mine Workers of America, and a 70-year member of the Heights Fire Co.
Before retiring, he had been employed in area mining operations.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, the former Anna Kershbaumer; brothers, Stephen and John; and sisters; Helen Spencer and Mary Balotsky.
Surviving are sons, Joseph R., Atlanta, Ga., Robert M., Omaha, Neb., and Thomas J., Hellertown; a sister, Julia Lutsky, Philadelphia; his sister-in-law and caregiver for the past four years, Mrs. Gerald R. (Angie) Lapinsky; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the John J. Pusti Funeral Home, 480 W. Broad St., Hazleton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
A prayer service will be conducted Friday evening.
