James Oram born 1812 in Dundee, the son of Alexander Oram and Cathrine Cathro.
Married in Lochee, Liff and Benvie, Forfar in 1833 to Isabella Menzies born 1813 in Dundee, Forfar, Scotland, the daughter of William Menzies and Isabell Yeaman.
They have had at least 6 children :- William Menzies 1834, Isabell Yeaman 1837, David c1841, John c1844, Cathrine Cathro 1850 and James 1851.
Do these names fit into your family tree?

They had at least one son, James born 1749/50.

I am looking for Barbara's death date and place. I know she died in WA, but I don't know where. I am looking for people researching the ORAM name, as they might have some info on the HUFFs. I Think I have found my g grandmother, but, it's a bit confusing

On her marriage certificate she is Jinnie Oram. She married Joshua crossley in a roman catholic church in Leeds in august 1897 aged 20 which makes her birth around 1877. Her father was james oram

She had a daughter, my grandmother, who's birth was registered as Mary but was Marie Crossley on the marriage certificate to my grandfather Harry Slater
On Mary's birth certificate the mother is Jennie Crossley
All this name changing is confusing but seems to recurr in this family

I think I have the right person because may father's sister was Jennie (Jennie's grandaughter)

What I need is confirmation that I have got this right and details of her other children, if there are any.

I am unsure where the info on John V Oram b.1821 NY and Adele(Della)b.1825 NY came from, but I am a direct line and have documents that state that Adell(many spellings)was born a "Bracknere" NOT a Broneoni. Since she was from France-this makes perfect sense. If anyone out there is interested in this NY/NJ branch of the Orams, just let me know. John and Adele had 8 children- of whom 7 lived to maturity. They are born from 1842 to 1864. This family moved from NYC to Hudson County, NJ in 1873. John's father, George, was the son of Cooper Oram, who came from Talbot,MD, via Penn and NJ. I have too much info to give unless really needed or wanted.

I am researching the Porter family. Alice Oram is a Daughter of William Henry & Mary Ann. She married John Porter (1899) & died at Campbelltown (1931)& had 5 children of whom William Robert(Bob) Porter(B 1910, D 2001) is my Father in Law. He married Norma Prior (1915-1999) & had 5 children, one of whom June is my wife.

I am also trying to find further news on Mary & William with little result.

I also am an Oram. My family starts in MD in 1635 and branches all over. My branch goes to NY City and we can trace it through the 1870's , when we find them in Jersey City , NJ in the 1880 Census.
The children of John Vernal Oram and Adele Bracknere mostly live in NJ, until my Grandfather Joseph Oram, who resides on NY City.
We are having difficulty finding my GrGrandfather Louis Oram and his wife, Cecilia Ferry(Fari,etc)(son of Adele and John) We have Louise's Death Certificate, listing Cecelia, but no Marriage Record. No Census Records have been found, but newspaper articles identify them as a family in NJ.
Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated and I will share anything I have.

I have George ORAM marrying Rebecca WAIDSON in 1814 in Birmingham. A son of this union Charles ORAM b 1820 married Ann STOKES in 1841 in Worcester. Is any one researching this family line? I am looking for info of this family for descendants in Victoria, Australia.

I have attached a Gedcom file of what I have found of this ORAM family. It is based on UK census, IGI and details provided by the Victorian family I am doing this for.
It provides basic descendants of William ORAM born circa 1720. It does not include living descendants.

I have not located a christening of John J ORAM on IGI.
Do you think John J may be Harriet's twin James ORAM? I say this due to the second initial J in his name. James married a Phoebe HYDE - after their marriage in Birmingham in Oct 1842 I cannot find any further records for them in UK.
Harriet does have a first cousin John ORAM.
I would be keen to obtain the arrival records for Harriet & John J ORAM to see if they shed any light on the above uncertainties. In the fullness of time if possible.

Thankyou for your rapid reply. I was not aware of Harriet as she obviously did not appear on the UK 1841 Census. I have now found her IGI birth & christening which I see are identical to her brother James - a twin - what fun. My family line did not come to Australia until the 20th century. Though an uncle may have come earlier - yet to discover that. Would you mind telling me where you determined that Harriet came on the 'Alfred' if you can.

I would be more than pleased to exchange info. Now where to start? Firstly I have not the source details for Harriet's arrival but have contacted person who is also researching this family and I am sure they will have NSW archives details soon.
In 1841 Harriet arrived in colony of NSW at age 25.In 1842 she had a daughter Jane to Charles Reed/Read and another daughter Harriet in 1844. In 1851 she married John William Haswell. She had another daughter Emily born in 1852 and on 21 Oct 1854 Mary Ann Haswell (my line) In 1859 she had a son James Whitechurch who's father was James Whitechurch.
Harriet died in Sydney on 15 Feb 1879.
I have a picture of Harriet which I will attach.
I have information that a brother of Harriet named John J Oram died NSW in 1886 however I have not as yet followed up this line.
This is just a quick summary of Harriet's life in Australia
If further details of next generation required please let me know

Living with the family is Lizzie SHERMAN enumerated as a sister of Charles’. In the 1900 & 1920 US census the family is living in Mineral Park, Mohave, Arizona and he is a miner. In 1920 they are living at 360 Beale Street in Kingman. In the 1910 US census he is described as being a miner in a turquoise mine.

Katherine Edith SHERMAN b. 22 Nov 1879, California
Gertrude G. SHERMAN b. Jun 1892, Arizona

Smallwood Oram, Emily J Oram

I'm trying to find more information on Smallwood Oram. He had many children, so I'm thinking there are a ton of decensedants out there. He was born roughly 1815 and married first wife Susan around 1835. Their children were: Cumberland, Sarah, Madeline, Elizabeth, Isaac, John and Samuel.

He married his second wife Emily J around 1865, their children were: Laura, Nimrod, Amanda, and Daniel.

Smallwood died around 1881, probably of tuberculosis.

I'm looking for more info on Smallwood, such as the names of his parents or possibly siblings. I'd also be *very* interested to know the maiden name of his second wife Emily J (born 1837 in Maryland).

A Henry Oram had a land grant in SC along Wateree/Catawba river prior to the American Revolution. He appears on a list of loyalists from the district. This can't be the same Henry Oram you seek, but perhaps his father? It would be worth searching SC Archives online for information on this 18C Henry Oram.
