Hi, Have just been tracing some of the Worfolk family and think that this section of the provisional Worfolk tree links in. The only issue is that Annie Elizabeth is listed at marriage as Thompson - but as Oram on the births. I assumme that this means she was married before.

Descendants of William Robinson Worfolk

1 William Robinson Worfolk b: abt Feb 1855 Caistor, Lincolnshire d: 28 Jul 1931 Toronto, Ontario, Canada
+Annie Elizabeth Oram b: 24 Sep 1853 England	m: 11 Jun 1877 Toronto, Ontario, Canada	d: 12 Oct 1934 York, Ontario, Canada	Father: John Oram	Mother: Christiana Wallace Newell

2 Christina Gertrude Worfolk b: 28 Mar 1878 Toronto, Ontario, Canada

2 William Frederick Worfolk b: 15 Sep 1879 Ontario, Canada
+Estelle Jane Macdonald b: abt 1886	m: 16 Jan 1906 Toronto, Ontario, Canada

2 Annie Edith Worfolk b: 22 Sep 1881 Ontario, Canada

2 Arthur Oram Worfolk b: abt 1884 Ontario, Canada
+Marian Enid Winifred Sinclair

3 Marian Isabel Worfolk b: 24 Jan 1910 Toronto, Ontario, Canada

3 Lilian Oram Worfolk b: 26 Feb 1911 Toronto, Ontario, Canada

3 Enid Elizabeth Worfolk b: 1912 d: 28 Aug 1912 Toronto, Ontario, Canada

2 Jennie Evelyn Worfolk b: abt 1886 Ontario, Canada
+Frank Clarke b: abt 1882	m: 27 Jun 1906 Toronto, Ontario, Canada Father: Francis Clarke	Mother: Jane Foulston

John Oram, born OH 1816-1821

I am trying to find any information on my GGGreat-grandfather John Oram, and am having a very frustrating time of it.

On two consecutive censuses, he listed Ohio as his birthplace, but his birth year is fuzzy - he seems to have been born between 1816 and 1821.

He married Margaret Ann Carson in St. Louis on June 24, 1841.

I would love to know who his parents/siblings were. Has anyone researching Ohio Orams come across a John?

Hi there, yes harriet did arrive in 1841.in 1842 she was a defacto to charles reed,in 1850 she lived in macquarie st windsor with her two daughters jane harriet ann francis reed. she married john haswell (my gg grandfather) on the first of dec 1851 at st matthews in windsor and had the two daughters as you say. then comes whitechurch and im a bit lost myself. But i believe she died in glebe 15 feb 1879 and is buried in rookwood.
Just on john haswell, he never married sarah ward, it was refused because he was still a convict with no money.Sarah was thunderbolts sister not mother, and they had a boy who was called james haswell. if you go on ancestry you can see a lot more on my tree, look for maile146.or you can phone me on 0732813423 cheers for now, rob maile

Hello I am researching Harriet Oram my findings so far. Harriet arrived on the 19th Jan 1841 on the Alfred either Port Jackson or Botany Bay. So then moved to Windsor where she married a convict named John Aswell(Haswell). John had been married before his 1st wife was Sarah Ward. They had two children one of which was Fredrick Ward. Fredrick Ward turns out be 'Captain Thunderbolt" the famous bush ranger. I think Sarah must of died at an early age no record found. He then he married Harriet and they had 2 daughters Emily and Mary Ann. Then it looks like she remarried to a James Whitechurch. Anymore info would be appreciated.
William Oram British Home Child to Canada from Middlemore Homes 1894

Looking for any information on William, who was emigrated at the age of 11 in 1894. He may also have gone by the name of William Allen and an alternate birth year of 1879. He sailed from Liverpool on Siberian with Albert E Russell (age 13). The boys were apparently bound for Toronto. Arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia on 15 June 1894. He was not an orphan, nor abandoned and had parents and siblings in Birmingham, Walsall and Glasgow. His father was John Oram, mother Ann Oram, formerly Allen, nee Bush. He had a brother, two half brothers, two half sisters and a step brother. I am descended from one of his half brothers and there are three other cousins currently researching the tree, that I am aware of, two descended from Allens and one who is a full Oram great grand niece of William. William either kept in contact with, or re-established contact around 1900 - there are letters home to his mother and references to letters to much of his family in the UK. At this point he admits
to being 18 (born 1882/3) and was serving, as a private, in the Royal Canadian Infantry Regiment, based in Fredericton, New Brunswick. There is also a letter from Houlton in Maine. He may also have served in Bermuda. He spoke often of returning home - we'd like to know if he achieved that at some point. We cannot find him after 1900/01, but we think there may have been Oram cousins visiting the UK in the 1940s/50s. We would like to establish where he was between 1894 and 1900 when he appears in Fredericton and whether he did survive after 1901 and marry - and make contact with any Canadian cousins. There are documents at Birmingham Archive relating to Middlemore Homes, which we have yet to look at, having only recently discovered William was a British Home Child. Thanks to anyone who may be able to assist!

My Oram ancestor, James, went to Saint John. New Brunswick in 1783 after the Revolutionary War. He was a Loyalist from Pensylvania. He was granted land along "The Long Reach"
One of his sons, David Leonard Oram moved to Ohio and was
Living with son-in law, David Kimble & daughter Mary. In the 1850 census, 5th ward of Mt. Vernon
Knox County, Ohio
He died before 1857.
I have much information on the Oram family I would be glad to share.

Hi There! I have been on and off again researching last few years. This is a "new" family line to research. I do not know anything, but would love to! Oram is my husbands great grandmother..she died when his grandfather was 2 and I guess both her parents died when she was young on the same say from Typhoid fever..so his mother knows nothing beyond her name and hat she was a teacher. I plan to keeping looking, but will start in Montgomery county ohio, where they lived 1st:)

Good luck on your research..it is really fun!
Hi - I'm doing an ancestry for my friend. His grandfather was William Oram Brown. My friend's grandmother was Emelyn Roberta Brown. William Oram was born according to my records in Maryland about 1864. He eventually married Alida M. Davis and lived in Lock Haven, PA. On the 1920 and 1930 census his parents were born in Luxembourg - Germany is also mentioned. I wonder if this is your great-great-grandfather. If you have any other information I'd appreciate it. I'm trying to put this together for my friend's 60th birthday in December. Thanks, Harriet Carfley

Smallwood Oram, Emily J Oram

I'm trying to find more information on Smallwood Oram. He had many children, so I'm thinking there are a ton of decensedants out there. He was born roughly 1815 and married first wife Susan around 1835. Their children were: Cumberland, Sarah, Madeline, Elizabeth, Isaac, John and Samuel.

He married his second wife Emily J around 1865, their children were: Laura, Nimrod, Amanda, and Daniel.

Smallwood died around 1881, probably of tuberculosis.

I'm looking for more info on Smallwood, such as the names of his parents or possibly siblings. I'd also be *very* interested to know the maiden name of his second wife Emily J (born 1837 in Maryland).

If anyone can help me, it would be most appreciated. Feel free to email me at laura.iandoli@comcast.net, subject Oram.

Re: Christina Margaret Oram

Her birth was registered in the first quarter of 1859 in the Kings Norton Registration District (Volume 6c Page 441). She appears with her family in Park Lane, Edgbaston in the 1861 census (RG9; Piece: 2124; Folio: 117). Edgbaston is a suburb of Birmingham.

Note that she and her mother were Christiana (not Christina). The former was the more common variant of the name at that time.

Christiana senior was probably Christiana NEWELL, as she appears on the same page as a John ORAM in the GRO marriage index in the second quarter of 1846 in Kings Norton (Volume 18 Page 589).

You should, ideally, get Christiana's birth certificate to confirm her mother's maiden name, before proceeding to buy the marriage certificate, which will give you the fathers' names and occupations of both parties, thus taking you back another generation. If you are outside the UK, the best way to order these would be online from the GRO (www.gro.gov.uk). They will cost 9.25 GBP each, including air mail postage. The other alternative is via the local Registrar (www.birmingham.gov.uk), but they will only accept postal applications and they charge 9.00 GBP plus postage, so slower and more expensive. Buying them via any other method will cost a great deal more and take a lot longer.

Hope this helps

Caroline
