I am looking for more information on Jules Garesche "Gary" Ord (September 9, 1866–July 1, 1898). I wrote an article on him in Wikipedia. Please see:

Hi, I was born in Hartlepool, but now live in New Zealand, and I am trying to trace my family tree in the North East and around Leeds. At some time the surnames SPENCE and ORD were joined but at this time I have not found out when. It's a long shot (which generally sums up a lot of genealogy research) but I thought I would pass on what little I have incase there is a connection:

My Grandfather NORMAN ORD was born 1900 in Grangeville, Pelton, Chester-Le-St. His Father was JOHN ORD, miner, and his Mother ELIZABETH BAISTER. Having just started my ORD tree any help regarding the ORD name would be most helpful.
Is the name common to Durham area, my Grandfather came up to Earsdon Nbl with his Family to work the local mines and settled up here. Any info helpful. Thanks.

Ords, Murton and Durham, Miners

I am tying to trace back my ord family in Murton. My great grandfather was Robert Ord and his father John Ord. I do know that john was dead by the time Robert married (from his marriage certificate). Given the whole family seem to have been miners with quite common names its proving really dificult to get very far back. I'm cautious of assuming too much as there are so many folk with the same names, of course all miners too. Just wondering if you can help at all?

Does anyone have any knowledge of Isabella Ord born circa 1802 possibly in South Shields or adjacent parishes? The 1841 census records her having been born in co Durham.
She married Greener Robson at Jarrow St Paul's in 1822.

christiana bolstridge remarried a McLeish.If it is the same Christiana I have a photo of her age 90 at Lamesley outside the almshouses where she was living according to the 1901 census.She is my husbands g.g.grandmother.Her daughter Annie b.1861 married Anthony Parker Dover.

Apologies my message yesterday is incorrect. I at last got to the Public Records Office and it is not my Robert Ord that came out on the Lizzie Webber. I am now going back to check the indices much more carefully before I comment again.

Robert Russell Ord is my Paternal Gr Grandfather. He came out to Australia in 1852 on board the Lizzie Webber. This can be verified through the records at the Public Records Office Victoria.

George Ord 1810 Northumberland.

My Great Great Grandad is George Ord born in Northumberland. He was married twice. His second marriage was to Ann Wind and they lived in Chesterfield where they had four children George, Jane , John and Edmund. However I have no information about his first marriage, his brothers or sister. I do know that is father was Thomas Ord who worked as a farmer.

I am researching the Ord Family for my cousin's husband. His g-grandfather is Elam H. Ord, born abt. 1879 in Wisconsin. Elam was married to Mabel Hunt (born 1884 in Nebraska). Elam was the son of William Henry Ord (born abt. 1851 in Missouri) and Margaret Elvira O'Haver (born abt. 1859 in Wisconsin).
Elam had twin sons named Wendell W. Ord and Wayne W. Ord that were born Apr 18, 1915. Wendell is the grandfather of my cousin's husband. Can you help with further information?

Robert Russell Ord married my great grandmother, Eliza Johnston. They were my father's guardians and brought him up in Mount Cole, Victoria. Eliza Johnston's daughter, Eliza Jacobs was my paternal grandmother.

Hi everyone

I am looking for any information about my great grandmother Catherine Ord who married Matthew Bell. They were living in 1901in Crawshay Street Gateshead.

I can find all sorts of information about the Bell side of the tree but there is a very sturdy brick wall as far as Catherine is concern.

All I know that the 1881, 1891 and 1901 her birthplace is given as Newcastle Northumberland

I cannot find her parents in the 1851 census, I found a Probable Hellen Ord living with her Grandparents-William Ord ( A weaver) And Issobel Duff in Cuminestown Banffshire, aged 9. Would her parents have left her, to work elsewhere, was this common for weavers, her parents were William Ord ( a Weaver also) b abt 1814 Cumingstown and Jane Allan, I have been unable to find a wedding or death certs for them as yet.

Interesting...My ancestor was Henry Chaytor b. 1617 and Govenor of Bolton Castle aka "the brave defender of Bolton Castle". Thomas Orde b.1740 became Thomas Orde-Powlett, 1st Baron Bolton. In 1920 our families crossed paths in the marriage of Violet Chaytor and Amias Orde-Powlett

Amias C. T. Orde-Powlett of Thorny Hall in 1920.

I am a descendant of Admiral Sir John Orde of Nunnykirk through my paternal grandmother. I am starting to trace the family history and as such a novice. I have a copy of an article from 'the Journal' Saturday Magazine of Saturday March 14 1981. I assume the paper was somewhere around Morpeth as the story has local interest.Part of the article deals with the Ordes of Northumberland. If you would be interested I could send you a copy.

I am not sure if you are familiar with our website: englandresearch.com. We have posted a lot of the Ord(e) research we have gleaned over the years there for others to use. There is info on the Nunnykirk Ord(e)s there and as we periodically update information we would suggest you check back now and again. In the Summer of 2007 we plan a trip to Durham and to the archives and we are hoping to dig up more info on our Ord(e)s.

I'm an Ord-Clayton married to a Pattison in Northumberland. My great grandad x 3 was a George Ord born in Ireland who moved to West Woodburn (Corsenside area), Northumberland. I know that he was related somehow to other Ord's in the Village who then moved to Durham. I'm interested in discovering the link. The Ord's who moved to Durham are Ralph Ord b 1809 Woodburn, married to Hannah who moved to Benfieldside. Robson Ord b 1814 Corsenside, married to Elizabeth who moved to Benfieldside and John Ord b 1811 married to Isabella who moved to Gateshead. I think they were probably all brothers and possibly the cousins of my George.
Any help would be appreciated

My Great X 3 grandfather was George Ord who came to Northumberland with his brother John and settled in West Woodburn near Otterburn. They married Margaret and Ann Davidson respectively. Georges son Ralph emigrated to america with his children. I'm still in Northumberland and am eager to find out any more about my family, particularly the Irish link. Did George and John have a brother called Thomas?

I am tracing Robert Ord born abt 1814 Northumberland, he is my ggreat grandfather. As far as I know he had three brothers. One maybe a James Ord and he was wealthy and came to Australia and lived on King Island near Tasmania, Aust. An other maybe a Richard but not to sure on that. Robert came to Australia, but when I don't know. He came out on a ship that I don't know and was taught a trade as a boot maker. He set up shop in a town called The Don. Its no longer there. I have a Robert Ord here in Australia, he is my ggreat grand father. He lived in Tasmaina and married a widower Ellen Finn 7th Mar 1851 Manre of Evandale, Morven, Tas, Aust.

Hi,
My father is an Ord and he told me that his family comes from Northumberland but where there, he had no idea. He also said that is g grandfather Robert Ord had 3 brothers. He came to Australia on a ship (which one we don't know)and was taught a trade of boot maker. He landed in The Don, Tasmania. He married a female convict Ellen Finn. My father also said that one of Roberts uncle was in Australia who was wealthy and lived on King Island. One day Robert went to visit him and Jame's butler and the door. When the butler told James who was at the front door, James told the butler, it is one of my poorer relatives looking for a hand out so send him on his way. Robert walked away very unhappy as Robert wasn't looking for a hand out out all.

I would love to find out more about our family in Northumberland but I am finding it very hard.

On behalf of a friend, I am looking for information on Christopher Stephenson Fearon Ord, b.1902 in Byker, Newcastle and d.1956 in the Central Middlesex Hospital. At that time he was living in Willesden.

His occupation was master hairdresser and his death certificate records his widow as G. Ord, but I can find no record of their marriage (no Christophers marrying anyone with the initial G!)

Can anyone help? Any info on his parents or siblings would also be welcomed.

Additional information on Jonathan and Mary Ord, Jonathan was a tailor and Mary died when her cloths caught fire from a candle flame. On a visit to Durham last year I hoped to find information about her inquest in the newspaper records but the film for that period was missing.

High Felling was written above the one entry.

Other names in the Bible are Coates/Coats, Lonsdale, Sanderson, Lowery, Oliver.

I have not yet managed to link this couple to any of the names, even the death certificates didn't help.

Have you come across thsi couple in your searches.

They are on the 1881 census as follows at 7 Brook Street Westminister London with 5 servants:
William M. ORD, Head,M, Male,46, Streatham, Surrey, England Physician MD FRCP MRCS SSA FSS
Jane ORD Wife M Female 37 Tasmania Physicians Wife
William W. ORD Son U Male 21 Streatham, Surrey, England Undergraduate Oxf Univ
Julia ORD Daur U Female 19 Streatham, Surrey, England Physicians Daughter
Jane C. ORD Daur U Female 13 Streatham, Surrey, England Scholar
Marrietta H. ORD Daur U Female 9 Streatham, Surrey, England Scholar

Jane and Marietta may well be Jane's children.

The family is at 37 Upper Brook Street in 1891. Jane is no longer there (it looks like she married Sep 1889 as Jane Christine St.Geo.H.Sq. 1a 750 but no husband's name listed) and the H in Marietta's name is Harriet. William jnr is William Wallis. Another daughter,Violet aged 26 is with the family.

I tried to find them on the 1871 census and the best I could find are Jane (3) and a sister Violet (6) as the 'daughters' of Alice Freeman, aged 67 at 20 Paragon Streatham Hill.

Jane Ord (Youl) is on the 1901 at 7 Gloucester Place, St Marylebone, at a lodging house, aged 48, living on own means. She must be in town visiting as William Millar Ord is listed with daughter Julia in Hurstborne Tarrant Andover Hampshire.

There's a BMD birth entry for Violet Ord Wandsworth 1d 499 Dec 1864, and there are two Marietta Ords, one Sep 1866 Wandsworth 1d 509, and Marietta Harriet Mar 1872 Wandsworth 1d 658. Jane Christine is listed Q1 1868 Wandsworth 1d 607. Marietta Harriet Ord marries either Henry Plank or David Dwight Wells Dec 1896 St. Geo. H. Sq 1a 828. There's also a death entry ORD Julia Wandsworth 1d 362 Mar 1865.

William Miller's death is registerd Dec 1902 aged 67 Salisbury 5a 121, but I can't see anything for Jane, perhaps she then moved in with one of her children. I can't see any obvious remarriage as all those listed appear to be in the north.

This is all courtesy of ancestry census collections and freebmd. You've maybe got a few certificates to buy!

Do you know if your ORDs were papermakers?
