Ore Family

Seven years ago I started a search on the Ore Family and, for whatever reason, did not see the responses that many left. The Ore Family that I am researching started, to my knowledge, in North and South Carolina. David Ore II, son of David Ore I moved to Norfolk, VA with his wife, Sylvia Vincent. They had eleven children, many of which still reside in the Tidewater area. There is a story of the Ore name originally being Orr and that reason for its change was due to a family feud regarding the color line; Orr (white) and Ore (black). Perhaps the Ore line began as Orr and due to miscegenation, was forced to or chose to change the second "r" to an "e." At a later date I will provide the names of all 15 brothers and sisters of David Ore I as well as their dates of birth.

I have heard speak of the Ore line moving to KY and TN. Perhaps David Ore I rings a bell?

Hi, my grandfather is from Londonderry Ireland and his mother was named ANNE ORE (it is said she came from a very high class family!!!) she married my great grandfather Samuel Caldwell and had 2 children John Harrold (my grandfather) and William Reginald (a Lancaster pilot on WW2 who was killed in action). She died when my grandfather was very young. Have you come accross her at all in your research. A long shot I know but worth a try!!

am from uk england the name has come from Scotland and Ireland anyway no your not the only one out there but there quite a few in the Uk. But are we related, I say its very very possible. After doing a index search there is not many people with our name. In scotland and Ireland we are known as nobility but what does that tell us, well in 1256ad and 1066 our name was used in war battles after doing more research i noticed that many of my past ansestor moved to the USA to make a new start around 1700 aprrox when the first know settlers started to visit and explore. the land i found such one man is name was alexander ore but after checking more detail i found that half of my family moved to the USA one man named robert ore so yes there is a very good chance that we are the same line in family the ore family is large and wide and we all come from the same roots and everyone with the name Ore. The names Ore comes from Scotland nicknamed Orre - orri and Ore better known as the Black cock but this was a moto Purity and Nobility. So if had some of your details this would be helpful on my quest of tru and knowelge date 5-4-2005

It appears we are working on the same Ore family. William Arvil Ore (1876) did have a brother named Charles, however, I do not know that the name was Charles Henry. He also had brothers Ottis, Charles, Cleveland and James and two sisters named Nellie and Della. These family members were listed in the obituary of William A. Ore. James P. Ore's wife was Lucy Ann Everstreet. I have a record of the 1860 census of Bedford County which indicates that James P.(1844) had one brother named William E. Ore (1853) and three sisters who were identified with initials only. The parents of these children were William J. C. Ore and Sallie. If you have information that you are willing to share please write to me at 422 Oakdale Avenue, South Charleston, WV 25303 or phone me at 304-744-1037.

10-24-2003: Hello from your Oregon neighbor. I'm looking for a female Orr, that had a baby girl named Gaynell, by a man named Witham or Whitham, about 1920?? She was raised by her paternal grandma, Altha Ruth (Denham-Dunham) Knapp, Witham-Whitham, Fontaine, Belcher or Butcher, probably in Minnesota, b. 1866 Minnesota. Altha was my grandma's older sister. The Orr woman, I was told was named Mattie or Matilda. I don't know why she didn't raise her own child. The father, George Witham, died in El Paso Texas, in 1927 from a train accident. Gaynell had a son, Jack or John about 1937/8, by a Albro or Albrough. She supposedly married a Dixson, Dixon, or William Dickson, later on. I don't know what became of any of these people, but one distant relative in California, named Hansen told me some of this story. He came to Oregon to visit me, with his wife, Loraine (Chisholm?), years ago. ROSEBLAZER@MSN.COM
