Hello Barbara,

My great grandfather Sam was born in Chicago in 1897; his father Giovanni (1853) was born in Agnone and was married to Diomira Dagnillo. They were married in 1880, around the same time they came over. Giovanni's father was Dominico and his mother was Rachel Ferrara. Giovanni had a brother Pietro who was born about 1870. I do not know when Dominico was born.
There could be a chance were related; however based off the current info, it's hard to say.

Sam

Aug. 25, 1900, in Chicago, m. Maria Falca Totaro. He was the son of Sabatino Orlando & Candellora Venditto.
Our Orlandos, from Agnone, were Vincenzo Paolo (1840-1908) who married Filomena del Po (1843-1937). Their son Domenico (1881-1965) emigrated to Western Canada in 1909, followed by his wife Laurina Ghizzoni (1882-1965), who was from L'Aquila, and their son Vincenzo. Domenic's siblings, Carmine, Maria Grazia and Rita, also left Agnone at the same time, some going to Washington State, some to Canada. I don't think we have any more Orlandos left over there.

My grandfather Salvatore Orlando was born in Detriot Michigan along with his sister Josephine and I think they had a brother - not sure of his name. Their parents were Carlo and Vita Orlando who both came from Terrasini, Italy. The family moved from Detriot to Gloucester, MA around 1920-1930. Maybe there is a family connection.

Re: Orlando's in NE WI

Tony,
There are so many similarities between our Orlando immigrants that we must be related somehow. My Domenicoangelo Orlando was born in Agnone in 1843 to Sabatino Orlando and Candellora Venditto. I only know of one confirmed sibling, a Vincenzo Orlando, married to Teodora Camperchioli, who also was in Chicago in 1890.
My Dominicoangelo married Maria Felicia "Falca" Totaro in 1864 in Agnone. We know of 4 children born in Agnone, Cristanziano, b. 04 Nov 1871, Maria Grazia, b. 21 Nov 1874, Maria Concetta, b. 08 Dec 1877, and Maria Bambina, 09 Nov 1879.
Domenicoangelo arrived in the U.S. on April 12,1881 on board the Olympia. He was 27. The name listed after his on the manifest was Pietro Orlando, age 24. I have always assumed that this was a brother. Once in Chicago, Domenicoangelo went to work for the railroads.
His wife along with Cristanziano & Bambina joined him in Chicago in 1888. I do not know the fate of Grazia & Concetta although I have assumed that the probably died before their mother immigrated.
Falca had the following children after arriving in Chicago: Maria Antonia, b. 27 Jul 1889, Nicola, b. 18 Feb 1891, and Maria Grazia, b. 19 Jun 1897.
One source says that Domenicoangelo was married previously in Agnone. The name of this wife is unknown but supposedly he had a 2 sons named Pasquale & Gelsonmino. The story was that they took a ship from Naples to New York and then went to Colorado.

Re: Orlando's in NE WI

I have just begun researching the Orlando's from NE WI. My grandfather was Antonio "Big Tony" Orlando who was married to Mary Porfilio. They had 11 children, 9 of which are still living with my dad, Leonard, being the oldest at 94. Big Tony was from Agnone and his father, I believe was Pietro and his mother was Angela (not sure of Maiden name).I know he had some siblings that came to the US also (Francesco (Frank)and Pasqualina (pauline) who married Antonio "little Tony" Orlando and I also believe there was a brother that immigrated to S. America but know absolutely nothing about him. He came to the US through NY, mined coal in Colorado and OKlahoma and eventually settled in NE WI. Any information you have would be graetly appreciated. Thank you

Len "Tony" Orlando

Orlando / Paffumi from Novara di Sicilia

My grandfather, Carmelo Paffumi, married Maria Orlando and brought her to the US in 1914. Both were born in 1891, probably in Novara di Sicilia, Italy (Messina area of Sicily). They had 6 children born in the US (Adeline, Anthony, Ernest, Richard, Robert, Francis) and lived in Lorain, Ohio before Maria died in 1933.

Looking for any information on parents or siblings of either grandparent. Carmelo was also known as Charles, and had a sister living in Rome, Italy in the 1990's. Paffumi may have also been spelled Pafumi.

Hello,
My name is Josann. My father was an Orlando. His name was Joseph R. Orlando, born in Reading, pa. He had a brother named Lawrence and sisters named Roseanne, Jeannett and Mary. They were raised in a home in Reading were Alvernia College is located. His father and mother were Nicolas and Angelina Orlando. My great uncles were Antonio and Samuel Orlando. Most of whom are now deceased. We are also related to the Cipolla family. I believe we are also related to the Distasio family. I am very interested in finding my family roots. Do any of these people sound familiar?
