John ORME d 1786 Prince George's County, Maryland

I am looking for information on the children and land records of John Orme who died testate in 1786/9 in Prince George's County, Maryland. "John Orme, gentleman", who in his will (Liber T No. 1 Folio 276) mentions:

-Thomas Cummins, grandson, son of daughter Selby
-Isabella Selby
-Sons and daughters of deceased daughter Selby (wife of Joseph Selby).

I believe this John Orme to be the son of John Orme d abt 1766 in Prince George's County, who was the son of Robert Orme d 1713/4. These members are well documented in Elise Greenup Jourdan's "Southern Maryland Families" Volume 1, but the research stops with John d. 1786 (I believe this is John 2-1 as shown on page 143).

Any partial research or "pinters" would be appreciated.

Hi Annick,
Good to hear from you- I haven't heard from anyone else who's interested in this Orme family! If you open your tree to me on Ancestry, I will do likewise, or contact me directly through orme.ricia@virgin.net.
The Duffield parish registers are terrible to decipher: I have Nicholas bpt.1623, son of Richard bpt.c.1600, son of Nicholas, presumably bpt. c.1580, and then ?perhaps? two Richards! Best wishes, Pat,

Dear Pat
My Blatchley ancestors come from Bath. I believe originally they might have come from Wiltshire. The earliest I can find is my 3 x great grandfather, William, a cabinet maker. He married Nancy James at Lycombe & Widcombe, Bath in 1819, but I haven't been able to find his birth. In 1824 he was living in Union Passage and in 1826 & 1839 he was at 5 Abbey Green.
What's your Blatchley connection? Maybe we're cousins.
Joanna

The information I have on Moses the Elson was suppied off the net. It very well could be wrong.
I have a book with some of the Orme history in it. The information was provided by Vida Orleen Orme, Brazil Ind. Sue-Ella Orme Perry, Indianapolis. Their listing of children does not list a Moses. I also Have a copy of Nicholas Davis Orme's will which dosen't list a child by the name of Moses. This doesn't mean there wasn't one though If there is one for sure I would like to have any info you find on him. The Orme family I find very interesting but confusing at times. Thank for the reply
Forrest Boyer

Nicholas D. ORME's mother Elizabeth DAVIS

Nicholas Orme's mother, Elizabeth Davis, was probably the daughter of Nicholas Davis who died in 1804. His will is printed in the Wills of the Pioneers chapter of the Mason County History but the children are unnamed, except for George Naylor Davis. Contrary to published accounts, I feel sure that Nicholas was the son of David Davis who died leaving a will naming his ten children in Charles Co. Md in 1776. The Davis family had lived on both sides of the Charles and Prince Georges Co. lines for generations, attending St. Paul's Church at Baden.

Nicholas died intestate in Franklin Co., IN and there is a lot of information in the court records regarding the distribution of his estate. Each of his children's marriages are documented, along with the county and page number of the marriage. The deceased daughters are listed, as well as the names of their children. I am following the line of their daughter, Amanda Jane Orme, who married James Lawhorn, had one son, and the died.

Thank you for your interesting post regarding Lydia. I have traced her ancestry back to 1650 England. Her parents, Shiloh and Susan, left interesting letters about life in TX in 1854. I am happy to share them with descendants. My own search is for her cousin, William James Orme (1824-Abt.1862), William died in TX sometime during the War but was not in it as far as I can tell. I'm looking for his grave which may be in Hunt, Lamar or nearby counties. Sam Orme, samlorme@aol.com

Hi...From what I have found Lydia A. Orme did marry Leander Pearce on 27 Sept 1858 in Lamar County, Texas.(Ref: Lib of Congress file: 976.4A1c No. 190)...Lydia was born abt. 1835 in Tenn....She was the 1st wife for Leander Pearce...Believe Lydia died not long after a son was born, James Shiloh Pierce. Leander married 3 times and had 3 families. From what I learned returned to Rhea Co, Tenn and died there. Unk. where buried.
Unk. why spelling was changed. Have seen too many in my genealogy that did this...James Shiloh Pierce married the daughter of my Great Grandparents, Green Pinkham DeFee and wife Margaret Anna DeFee nee Carr..Both are buried in Kingston Cemetery, Hunt County , Texas....On 1880 Hunt County, Tx Census you find the Defee's as "DeFoe"....And on the Census you find James Shiloh Pierce and wife Laura Irene Pierce nee DeFee....They are buried in Breckenridge Cemetery, Stephens Co, TX....On the 1880 Hunt Census you also find on the next farm down from James Shiloh is Shiloh P.Orme and wife, Insan? Susan? Orme....This has to be the parents of Lydia A. Pearce nee Orme....and living "next door" to their grandson, James Shiloh Pierce. Here you can see where James received his name of Shiloh.
I also have a picture of James Shiloh Pierce and wife Laura posted on their grave site..."Find a Grave" and also on the Stephens Co, Tx genealogy site.
Anyone have questions, email me.
Looking for parents and siblings of William ORME, born abt 1811 Prestbury or Macclesfield. He left the area in 1827 and signed up to the 56th Regiment of Foot in Manchester. He was discharged in 1850 on health grounds having been promoted to Sergeant Major and travelling the world, but leaving no trace and/or indication of which of the many Cheshire Ormes he was related to! He spent the rest of his life in Bradford and Hull. His military record lists his birth place as Prestbury. Many thanks.

This appears to be her death record as reported by the SSDI at Rootsweb.com ( http://ssdi.rootsweb.com ):

MARY JESSEN, 24 Jul 1911 - Jul 1986. Last residence: Gwynn Oak, Baltimore Co. MD 21207. SSN: 212-76-5101, issued: Maryland.

First, go to Rootsweb and locate the record. You can leave a Post-em on the record with your contact information. Second, you can print out a letter to the SSA requesting her SSN application. Third, you can now search for her obituary. The newspaper local to Gwynn Oak is probably on microfilm, or even available online.

Also, have you found Mary in the 1920 and 1930 Census? That will give you lots of info.

Good luck with your research.

Janet and Tracey, where did all this take place? Assuming it was in the United States, I looked at Ancestry.com to see if there were any obvious matches for your Molly Kathleen in the 1930 Census, but I didn't see any.

Have you searched for all of your grandfather's sisters in the 1930 Census, looking for a 5 year-old female? They may not have kept her name as Molly Kathleen Orme. If you don't find her, be sure to search for all your grandmother's relatives families, also. Family stories sometimes get a few details wrong.

Did your grandfather keep in touch with this daughter, and his sisters?

Valorie

What years was Nathaniel ORME in Kentucky

Seeing Bill's post that Nathaniel migrated west through Kentucky, opens the possiblity of Nathaniel being Jeremiah Brisco Orme/Ormes father also. I always discounted that because all of Nathaniels offspring seemed to be in the west. However, Nathaniel would have been in his twenties when Jeremiah Brisco Orme was born in Kentucky in 1818 or 1819. Does any one have anything that could tie them together or eliminate the possiblity.

Jimmie
chatham@consultant.com

Hello we as a family are looking for our great aunt Molly. She was Given to a sister(not sure which sister though) of my Grandad shortly after birth. Our Grandad was William John ORME(1891) married to a Annie DAVIES (NOT KNOWN OF BIRTH DATE). They had a daughter called Joan Constance in 1923 then later another daughter Molly Kathleen in 1925. We do know that William's wife was admitted into Springfield Hospital in 1925 (of unsound mind),so we know that is why MOLLY never stayed within the family unit. We would like any ideas or lots on help in tracing this lady...CAN ANYONE HELP US????
Janet and Tracey
