I am looking for a possible Mary or Polly Orrell that married a McCain around 1740 maybe in NC or just moved there later. Their kids would be Susannah, Elizabeth & Thomas.

I think that there is an Orrell in my family because for a few generations they used it as a first and middle name.

McCain could be spelled:
McCaine
McCane
McKain
McKaine
McKane
McCahan
McKahan
McCean
McKean
McCeen
McKeen
or any of those without the Mc.

Would love any info,
Kimi Southerland

Hi, I'm researching the Mackay family from Caithness. I have William Mackay, a joiner, marrying Catherine Henderson at Reay on 15/3/1822. They moved to Edingburgh and had a son William who married Mary Ann Orrell (b 1825 in Liverpool) in 1843. Any information on their ancestors would be greatly appreciated.

Hi David, I have just read your message re James Orrell etc. My g.g. grandfather was James Orrell, married to Rachel Smith, children Ann, Betty, Thomas, Ellen, Maria, Rachel, William & others. James was born in Tottington in 1801, Rachel was 8/9/ years younger and they lived in Penington Street, Walshaw. I have so far been unable to find the names of James' parents, though possibly William & Ann and no record of his baptism or marriage, although there are Jas. & Rach. married at M/C Cathedral which seems out of character with this particular family. Are these the same Orrells as yours, and, if so, I would really appreciate any further information and could pass on any I have.
Margaret

Hi Johnnie,
Sorry, all my Orrells come from around Turton, Tottington and Walshaw in Lancashire, England, and mostly centred around a large, old house they owned from around the fourteenth to the seventeenth centuries - Turton Tower. My Father's surname was Orrell. Good luck with your research.
Margaret

I have done a lot af research in years past, but not lately. The Orrells came here from Indiana, and there are still a lot in this area. I haven't looked at this info in some time, but I will try to find it. Did your grandfather have a brother Archie? Or maybe an uncle? I remember him from years back. We visited the area in Indiana they moved from and found many interesting stories. Feel free to email me. Nancy

My g.g.g.aunt Agnes Orrell (born 1844 in Ramsbottom Lancashire) married Gideon Orrell, son of Thomas Orrell, on 18 December 1865 at Christchurch Accrington.

Gideon died in 1886 - drowned himself whilst of unsound mind.

They had 4 children I know of - John T Orrell c.1867, Peter Orrell c.1869 (I believe they both died young), Adam Orrell c.1873 Accrington Lancashire and Wright Orrell c.1880 Accrington Lancashire.

Adam married Martha Alice Allen in 1898 at Christchurch Accrington. Martha died after childbirth in 1900 and Adam then married Mary Ellen Hill in 1904 at St Peters Church Accrington.

Wright Orrell married Emily Stokes in 1906 at St Peters Church Accrington. They had a daughter Adelaide Orrell in 1908.

Any connections out there?

Shuttleworth-Orrell

Hello;
I am trying to trace my Great Grandfather James Orrell born at Turton Towers in 1859, so it is said. He married Matilda Shuttleworth and had 9 children. He apparently had stables at one time, but the rumor is that they lost everything in a fire before the turn of the century. On my grandmother's marriage certificate(Matilda Orrell born in Sept 1885 who married my grandfather George Howarth in 1907)It states that her father was a carriage driver. James Orrell and family came to Canada about 1913, But not my Grandparents, They came with my father and Aunt, after the 1st World War.I would be very greatful for any information.
Shirley Somerville nee: Howarth
