Hi,
I recently attended the Ory Reunion in Gonzales, LA.
It was wonderful. Horace Ory from California was there and another gentleman, whose name escapes me at the moment.
Try the Ory Reunion site. Kevin Ory keeps it up and he is just great. If he can't find your Ory's then maybe Horace can.
Try angelfire.com/la/kory/REUNION
I first found Kevin on the geneaology.com site .. under ORY of course... if you can't get him on angelfire...
Good luck and let me know how you did.
Susan

Most of my ancestors lived in Illinois, just 25 miles west of Chicago. My great great grandfather came to the states in 1844 and settled in Lisle, IL. My 6th great grandfather came to the states in 1736 and settled in Pennsylvania. His lineage then spread across the states, some heading north, some south. This is where it gets very difficult to trace the families.

I don't have a Florence Ory in my database or a Landry. I am wondering what part of the country you are in. There are some Orys from the south and some that have moved into the northern states from Pennsylvania. The southern Orys are centered in Louisiana. The most common Ory researchers that I have met have ancestors that arrived in 1736 in Pennsylvania and are all related. Tracing your roots back to Pennsylvania would be a great find.

Hi Yvonne,
Thanks for the comments on my web site.
I have an URL on my Docs page that will give you postal codes for towns in France. And from that one can find out what department that town is in.
From my research I've found Orys in a band of about 20 miles wide that stretches across France from the west coast to the eastern border. One could say the Orys liked the latitude all across France and here in Illinois, which is in the same latitude.
Also, do a search on Google for "Orry". You should find a site called "Orry-la-ville", the town located just N.E. of Paris. Interesting.
Anyway, thanks for the contact. We can keep in touch.
Jim

Jim, I didn't have any luck finding your web site tonight but I believe I have seen it in the past. My Ory ancestors came from France about 1833. First to New York and later Wisconsin. Their name was spelled Hory in France. The earliest Jean Christofle Hory, son,Jacques Christophe, son,Jean Frederick b. Oct, 1773,son,Jean Frederic b. 1795, Jean Frederic b. 1818. They lived in Clairegoutte, France. Does any of this sound like it might match up with your information?

Yvonne, read your messages here and was interested in your statement that you are related to Orys that came from France. My ancestors are also from France, the first came over in 1736, the second in 1844. The first was Francois Ory, who settled in Pennsylvania, and the second was Francois Sebastien, who settled in Illinois. Perhaps we are also related. I have a web site with my research posted that goes back to around 1680. WWW.NTSOURCE.COM/~JIMTORY Look around and let me know what you think.
Jodi, I have a family group sheet that lists the children of Jean Frederick and Marie Elizabeth Faivre: Charles Christophe b. 2-22-1816, Julia b. 4-12-1817, John Frederick b. 9-19-1818 (my ancestor), Suzanne b. 5-20-1820, Louis b. 8-19-1821, Suanne b. 8-18-1824, Henry b.5-6-1826, Jacques b. 4-4-1828, another Louis b. 7-14-1830. I don't know how acurate this is. You will notice two Suzanne and two Louis. I did find Louis Ory and wife, Mary on the 1860 Wisconsin census in Dodge County, Theresa, with two children Louis age 3 and Raymond age 2. Hope this is of help to you. My g-g-grandfather Jean Frederick and Mary Sultz and family were also listed.

Ory Married Brooks

Reply to Byron Moss. My grandfather was John Fredrick Ory, brother to Mary Elizabeth Ory Moss. My grandmother was Pearl Moss, sister of (Lis) Moss. I didn't know his proper name. I have been working on family history for the past four years and was glad to see your message. Mary Elizabeth's parents were Henry Ory and Sarah Ann Brooks. Henry is buried in Sonora, Texas and Sarah in Brackettville, Texas. I have visited Henry's grave but have been unable to find Sarah's. I found a baptismal record for Mary Elizabeth at the Catholic church in Brackettville. Was looking for a record of John Fredrick, but they didn't have it. I did find a record of the marriage of Henry and Sarah in court house. They married in 1874. I have been trying to trace all the Ory children from that family and know about all except Mary Elizabeth and Jenny, another sister. Please contact me and we can help each other. I am guessing that we are third cousins.

I'm interested in Katherine Ory's ancestry; time of entry into the U.S.; etc. I have a web site with my Ory genealogy posted at: www.ntsource.com/~jimtory

There are a few Catherine (and other spellings) Orys in my database, so if there's a chance she's related, I'd like to find out.

Thank you.

Jim Ory

Hi Patti,
From the information you gave, it doesn't seem likely that a link between my ancestors and yours is apparent. We still could be, but I think it would have to go back to around 1680 to find the links. Thanks for answering my message. I remember calling some Horys/Orys in Wisconsin a while back, but they hadn't done much research so couldn't help much. I have a web site with most of my research of the Orys on it. You can view it at: www.ntsource.com/~jimtory
Regards, Jim

I'm the 3rd great granddaughter of Martin Kocher and Katherine Ohry(Ory?)through their daughter Caroline. Caroline married Peter Mandabach in Massillion, OH in 1860. This family eventually migrated to Washington, Daviess Co., OH via Richland Co., IL. Peter Caroline's son Martin married Gertrude Steht in Washington, Daviess Co., IN in 1886. I believe you're descended from Martin's brother Nicholas who married Matilda Steht in Washington, Daviess Co., IN in 1891? My grandparents were Theodore Nicholas Mangin Caroline Agnes Mandabach, my parents were Lawrence Paul Donahue Mary Gertrude Mangin of Indianapolis. I have more information on the Mandabach Steht families and would love to hear what you know about them, the Kochers, and their origins. Please contact me direct at diannero@msn.com.
Regards, Dianne Rossman

Hello Jim:
I am not sure if my family is the same Hory-Ory family you
are researching. I am related to the Jean Frederic Hory who
was born in France and married a Marie Elizabeth Faivre in
1815 in Clairgoutte, Haute Saone, France. They immigrated
to New York in 1833. They had three children Jean Frederic,
Louis, Henri. All were born in Clairgoutte. Some of the later
relative ended up in the Illinois area around Rockford. A
Joesph Ora(Ory) who moved to Royalton Wi. and married
a Scliece girl.
I don't know if any of this fits in with your family history. It
would be interesting to know.
Patti Metzler
