It maybe that you are both correct as a baptism doesnt confirm a birth date. Sometimes this is done later in life as an adult or older child baptism. in this case the baptism was done 1746 and he married Jane DREW in 1758. as noted in various web sites he died of injuries recieved in the West Indies and succumbed in 1786.
