Otleys in Iowa

I am looking for the Otley behind the name of the town of Otley in Marion County, Iowa and Otley Street in the town of Leighton, Iowa. I am guessing it is James W. Otley who was born 23 January 1820 in England and died 2 January 1888 in Iowa. His wife was Eleanor Janeson (or Jameson or Jansen, depending on the source) who was born 20 October 1817 in England and died 10 January 1892. Appears the couple had no children that survived them, and lost a little boy named Richard born 6 October 1850 and died 23 June 1851 in Philadephia, PA. Stones for all three are at Woodland Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.

I think this James W. Otley was heavily involved as an engineer for the Des Moines River Valley Railroad that came up from Keokuk and more or less created the need for the towns of Otley and Leighton, and therefore his name remains.

Would appreciate any details on "the story" behind this Otley family for a history project I'm working on.

Thanks,

Calvin

Re: Fred Otley

I'm looking for info on my grandfather whom I always was told was named Harry Spering Otley; born in Philadelphia in 1876. My father, Harry Cornelius Otley, was born in Stuebenville, Ohio but his family ended up living in Pittsburgh where my grandfather died in 1928 when my dad was only 8 years of age. Because of this, I don't know a whole lot about him. I've recently located his gravesite in Pittsburgh's St. Mary's Cemetery. The headstone reads Harry S. Otley, but cemetery records have him as Henry Otley. Recently, I've sent for a death certificate on my dad's baby brother who died when he was 1. On this death certificate my grandfather's name is given as William Henry Spearing Otley as the name of provider, but on the bottom of said certificate his name is also written as (Harry Otley). I've tried to obtain death certificates under the names of Harry S. Otley and Henry S. Otley, but I've been sent letters saying there is no official record on file. I want to find out my ancestry but don't know what name he was born with. Can anyone help? Thank you.
