My ancestor, Christian Otto, is listed in the Wyandotte, Wayne Co., Michigan, 1860 and 1870 US census. He was born in Prussia about 1797 and immigrated to the US in 1852, with one son and five daughters. His wife, Katherine, died in Prussia in 1849.
There is some evidence that the family came from Essen, but according to a 1934 obituary, they are said to have been from "Weisenscheid, Germany." We can't find a town of that name, but "Wiesentheid" does show up in Bavaria, nowhere near Essen.
Anyone know of this Otto family and its origins?
