Hi, I saw your posting on ancestry.com boards from several yrs ago. Don't know if you're still researching and/or if you still have the same email address - but I (too) am related to the Baileys & the Outlands. I've seen it spelled different ways, but Missineah Kitts was my ggg-grandmother; my lineage thru Thomas Outland, and then his daughter Hannah Miranda Outland who married Marion Columbus (nickname 'Lum") Bailey.
My question & main interest on this side of my family is about our Cherokee lineage. Do you have any information or records on that? I've heard the family story that Missineah was on the Trail of Tears & met her first husband Jeremiah Outland (possible Quaker scout there) & married her. Also, I've read that she had a brother & sister, who were apparently white instead of Indian, so I can't figure out if her father, Jackson Kitts was Indian or white, & have no idea who her mother was - do you? The Cherokee connection has always facinated me. I've documented the rest of my family lineage back several centuries, but Missineah's roots have alluded me - possibly because of her American Indian lineage, there were no 'official' early family records?
Thx for any light you can shed on this!

Two Jesse Outlands in Belmont Co., OH?

Were there two Jesse Outlands in Belmont Co., OH?

I have one, Jesse b. abt 1827 to Wm Outland and Mary Wilson. He's listed with Wm and Mary at age 43 in the 1870 Census. I have run across another Jesse P. Outland who was apparently married to Lucretia Floyd. I can not find this Jesse with his family in any census records, but find children John, Joseph, Ellen, Charles and Ida born from 1854 to 1872 listed with Lucretia. I also find a Jesse P. Outland, male, married, white, farmer, age 54, b. OH, listed in Insane Asylum, Athens, Athens, Ohio in 1880. Are these two separate individuals or one?

Cornelius Outland

Cornelius and Elizabeth were Quakers who arrived in either Nansemond or Isle of Wight County, Virginia (I would have to check my records--I'm playing with this for the first time and it's 10:47 pm). He seemed to have died a year later after arriving from Holland. The name meant "old land" which a Dutch gentleman once told me would have meant the older land that had been reclaimed from the sea. He also thought there might even be a place named "oudelandt." The family moved across to NC due to religious persecution in Virginia. Members of the family who later owned slaves were disowned. Those members, I have been told, took the new name "Outlaw." Quakers were one of the earliest groups to condemn slavery.

I suppose you know he and Elizabeth came to Virginia from Holland with other Quakers in 1648. Beyond that, Dutch people I have met seem to think Oudelandt is a place name in Holland. I have been very busy personally and professionally in recent years and have not had time to do further research myself. My husband is the gt. gt. grandson of the Reverend Josephus Dodds Outland of Elm Grove Baptist Church in Murray, Kentucky. Josephus' father was Josiah Outland, who wasborn around 1785 and with his brother settled in Calloway County in the early 1800's. E-mail me and I'll check with my husband for any new information he may have received recently. I have heard that all Outlands and Outlaws(the ones who owned slaves) can trace back to Cornelius and Elizabeth.

My father was Charles Jackson Outland (1912 - 1996), descended from:

Jehu Jackson Outland (1871 - 1958)
Henry Thomas Outland (1846 - 1917)
William Copeland Outland (1819 - xxxx)
Thomas Outland (1785 - 1855)
Josiah Outland (xxxx – 1830)
William Outland (xxxx - xxxx)
William Outland (1682 - xxxx)
William Oudelant (xxxx – 1687)
Cornelis Oudelandt (xxxx – 1666)

Josiah (and possibly his father, Thomas) moved from VA to NC. From that point on, most of my family history is in the Rich Square area of NC, with loads of relatives buried in the Quaker cemetery in the nearby community of Woodland. I was fortunate enough to visit the Woodland cemetery in November 2000 and took notes and photographs of the headstones.

Trying to locate gggrandmother Ruth Outland

I have very little info on my great grandmother Josephine Clemmens Revelle. Even less on her mother Ruth Outland. Ruth Outland and Andrew Clemmens (spelling could be Clemmons, Clemments, Clemonds etc) were the parents of Josephine (could be Martha Jospehine) Clemmens. Jospehine was born in Sep 1873 in MO and married Wm. H. Revelle in 1893 in Fredicktown MO. She may have been raised by an uncle Ben (?) and not by her parents. Do not have any other info for Ruth or Andrew. Can anyone help me? Thanks. Richard Price busyman41@yahoo

You may arleady have the info you were asking about. since your post was in 2000. I have been doing some research on the Outland family ( my maiden name). I have an Enos Outland b. ca 1784-86, in my list. Could part of his wife's name be Rhoda. b. ca 1780-90. They were from Northhampton Co., NC. He went to Christian Co., now Trigg Co., KY. If any of this might apply to the Enos Outland you are looking for. I have a little more info like children's names. Hope this helps you. I have a copy of "The Batchelor - Williams Families and Related LInes" by Lyle Keith Williams. I asked the library to locate me a copy. The Outland family is Chapter 45.
